Your natural "neutral" scent, how to test it?

Hi all,

I know it may sound strange in a way but, i just wanted to know if somebody among you kind gentlemens has ever tried to get your "base" skin scent. And if yes, what is the best way to get it?

You take a water only shower, and you wait few minutes doing your normal things at work/house to let your skin warm up a little and then smell?

Or do you use a neutral soap to wipe away any other undesired smell (like traces of food smell, etc etc) and then rinse and smell?

What could be a good way to prepare your skin to be tested to get your basic scent?

I dont think we are able to smell our natural smell because we ve smelt it our whole lives and we are long since unable to identify it. However others are able to smell it and I think the best way for them to smell it is in our neck, at the back of it where hair begins to grow.

Hi ^myself^ (feels a bit strange saying this...eh)

Thanks for the tip. I've not considered that we have our base scent with us since our birthday so it may prove difficult or impossible to distinguish it. Basic wisdom.

I will get a "tester" and try with the area you described.

I think you can get an idea if you take a shower with totally unscented mild soap and then wait several hours. If you put your nose very close to your skin and inhale slowly and gently, you'll usually pick up something. Salty, nutty, sour....something. Another place where you can usually smell someone's natural skin smell but could never do this on yourself is between the shoulder blades. A bit more oil there, usually, and it is washed as vigorously as the rest of the body. For women, this natural skin smell changes with hormonal fluctuations. I don't know if that's as true for men.

I can smell myself sometimes . . .

It's interesting because I smell. . . kind of sour

I wonder if this is why I can't really wear citrus

and why I wear sweet things really well

Hmmm

Or should I say, sweet things are my favorites to wear

But really, anything but citrus. Although maybe I just haven't found the right citrus . . .

I have been told that red heads have a distinct natural odor. Being a red head, I have never detected it but I assume, since I have heard this all my life from different people, men and women, that there must be some truth to it.
