Drakkar Noir.....

looking at the reviews i am undecided on this....will this fragarnce swoon the ladies? i have read that others think this frag is a 'throw back'....any opinions espcially from those with this fragarnce.

I associate Drakkar Noir wit sleeziness and an 80's pornstar for some reason, i 'm not a fan but thats just me and my intrepretation of it. Then again it is def on the edge of sexual so it may be worth checking out, it just never worked out for me, i lean more towards tobacco notes for sexual fragrances

I actually like Drakkar Noir and considering that I didn't really grew up in the 80s, it was something new to me.

And if those ladies you're trying to swoon are in their twenties, I'm sure they'll like it. I'm guessing Drakkar Noir was the AdG of it's day, so it seems like a love it or hate it relationship for those who were in constant contact with the fragrance during it's popularity.

To me Drakkar Noir is the most synthetic, chemical, nauseatingly, hideous fragrance EVER to be released. Â*Oh, and i forgot to add, it SCREAMS 80's and preadolescent boys. Â* Thats my opinion anyway........ I guess i should modify my post as to why i feel it is preadolescent. In the 80's when this scent was released I WAS a preadolescent and so where all my friends and we ALL wore Drakkar.

Apparently Axe makes ladies "swoon" too. Seriously, that's the worst possible criteria because to the best of my knowledge ladies will swoon as long as you smell clean and neat and have a likeable personality and a good sense of humour. Easy-peasy.

Having said that, Drakkar Noir is so loud, outdated and obnoxious IMO that it has the capability of mitigating one's advantages.

I've had samples of Drakkar Noir a long long long time ago. Can't remember precisely the fragrance, but I wasn't so impressed I think. And I'm really amazed it is still around 20 years later. I really have the feeling it's the name and bottle that made most of the job for this one (as for many other EdT I suppose).

those questions are always tricky. I've browsed the "what turns women on" threads and I realized a fairly big amount of ladies here seem to really appreciate Fahrenheit or Kouros. Those definitely turn my gf off, as well as Antaeus, and I assume it's the same for Drakkar Noir. But again, to each his own, if it fits your style/personality/whatever, that's what counts IMO.

Drakar still has a place on my shelf, it has done its part as long as I did mine.
After sampling some of the scents recommended on these forums, it wont be used much.

Several things I would note about it:
It is fairly intense, a little goes too far if not applied sparingly. The basenotes (on me) arent great after say 6 hours or so , if its only a few hours in a club its fine. It also has an unfortunate connection to the lesser side of the 80s party scene since it was so easy to get... always available. lol

I LOVE Drakkar Noir, not popular here in England so I get people ALWAYS asking me what I am wearing, the ladys seem to love it, also the guys do as well I had alot of male friends asking me what I was wearing Drakkar nearly beat GiT in compliment geting.

The smell of Drakkar, it starts of spicy and kind of like a aftershave foams, but drys down to a smooth soapy smell that I just love.

I'm neutral about Drakkar, but I have to defend it--it is not a bad scent, it is only an incorrectly applied scent. It is strong and applying too much is lethal. Spray it discreetly and it can be a beautiful scent on certain skin types, not mine, unfortunately. But even on me it is still only a little boring, it is not offensive.

First time I wore it out the woman said please not to wear it - she melts to a guy wearing it, and it reminded her too much of the guy who'd worn it then dumped her.

The other point to consider is where you live. My understanding is that in the US Drakkar is near to being a mass market scent, nearly on par with Brut. But in other parts of the world it is the same price as the expensive scents, so it's not worn anywhere near as much in the population. Thus it stands out much better when worn in those parts of the world (it doesn't seem cheap).

well i live in the england primarily...i don't know what to do...obviously i dont to smell cheap/porn star etc... and some people saying that it gets complements! what a contradiction! but i can haven't seen it in uk shops. i will have to buy blind

Pre-Basenotes, when I never considered the idea of owning more than one fragrance, I wore Drakkar Noir as my everyday scent through a couple of 3.4oz bottles. I found it very pleasant and versatile and got lots of compliments.

In my area (northeast US) it IS fairly common and very recognizable to a lot of people, and to many it DOES have an association with trying-too-hard-to-be-sexy would-be pickup artists. That is not the fault of the scent itself, which is very fine, but it may be a consideration in choosing whether to wear it.

Because of this thread I wore it today and it was more wonderful than I remembered.......I even got compliments from my kids, so it cannot be THAT dated after all 8-)

I live in England and it is VERY rare here, for London Basenoters who want to try it or purchase it, they have it at BeautyBase in Bayswater in the Whitelys shopping centre, www.beautybase.com

Drakkar Noir was my all-time favorite scent for the longest time. It was my wife's favorite scent to smell on me when we were still dating. And I was still getting compliments on it as recently as a few months ago by customers at work! I don't wear it anywhere near as much as I used to, and my current 1.7 oz. bottle will probably be the last one I own. It does bring back alot of great memories. And it was the frag I wore exclusively on my trips to Las Vegas with my wife! :-*

Absolutely true! I've seen it for sale in Wal-Mart and Target stores, and Sav-On drug stores. And it's still for sale in Robinsons May. In fact, I nominated Drakkar as the best mass market frag in the recent Basenotes Awards nominations (but later changed it to Aspen cologne).

I think Drakkar Noir is great. Sure, it has some negative connotations from overuse in the 80's, but if you're a bit younger, it's unlikely they matter. I'm 27 and really the only person I remember wearing it was my father; I've never noticed someone else wearing it at a club. But as previous people have stated, you really need to apply it sparsely. I see posts where people mention 'bathing in cologne'. Personally, I don't think anyone should ever do that--but with Drakkar Noir it will be completely nauseating. 1 spritz will do it (2 at an absolute maximum).

I should add I do find the top note a tad harsh...

While we're on the subject of Drakkar Noir, here are two other very similar fragrances:

Duc De Vervins: A classier alternative to Drakkar Noir; not as much synthetically smelling.

Caesars Man Legendary Cologne Spray:
Oh Yeah! Think of a short, fat man in his mid-fifties leisurely strolling in the Caesars Palace in Las Vegas with two trophy chicks under his arms, wearing a colorful Hawaiian shirt, a white hat, and a white pair of pants with several gold chains of various lengths resting on his hairy chest, talking and belly laughing really loud while pointing to the shopping windows with his index finger. Go on... close your eyes for a moment, and see if you can picture this. This is what Caesars Man will do to you if you ever decide to wear it... LOL

Oh, and the smell of the green juice is so potent that you can't even wash it off if you accidently spill it on your shirt.

Very 80s maybe - but it is a very sexy scent a great composition - funny I have not met someone wearing this for ages - this one could make a great come back as vintage
