Any fragrances that smell luxurious?

Thread Starter
Hey guys!

I've been attending formal events lately and have been reconsidering my usual choices for such evenings.

So I've been thinking, are there any fragrances out there that give an impression of luxury? I thought it'd be great to not only look *smashing*, but to also smell of it too.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Kiton smells like a million dollars to me. Â*

Creed Bois du Portugal also smells very expensive...wait, it is expensive! :
What do you mean luxurious? I'm guessing something that is very gentleman like?

I like Chanel Pour Monsieur. Very classy in my book.

I'm also receiving Heritage by Guerlain next week and I hear that is a refined fragrance as well.

Well I gotta put my fav Luxury/Formal frag in there......Van Cleef and Arpels.....

Jaipur EDP is about as luxurious as you can get. That frag just smells expensive. Although I wear it with formal attire always, it is very powerful so you might want to underspray it.

There's this almond note in it (when strip testing) that I just can't get past :-/ yeuch

I think Amouage Dia and Bel Ami are the ones in my collection that I feel are "formal" on me.
I'll second the Amouage Dia, Jaipur and Bois de Portugal!

Dunhil Edition is pretty classy too.

Kiton Napoli smells like 1.5 million and change!

Floris Elite
Floris #89
Montale SandalSliver
Serge Lutens Fumerie Turque
LV Piper Nigrum
LV Musk
L'Artisan L'eau Du Navigateur
Acqua di Parma (+ Assoluta. George Hamilton said in GQ he keeps a hanky sprayed with it, just in case he comes across a lady in need of one...)

I could go on and on...

I don't smell any almond in it. Â*All I smell is seductive rich spicy mandarin orange, vanilla and cinnamon combined with other spices. Â*That sucks you can't get to like it because I'll tell ya I get tons of compliments on that stuff from men and women.
If you want to smell almond, go smell Â*Premier Figuier Extreme. Â*Although it is almond milk so it is more tolerable.

Haven't tried Kiton, never even heard of it. Â*I must try that now

Good ol George Hamilton ;D ;D ;D

I wanted to like this one. I'll try it again, though - this time on the skin. Perhaps it will open up more!

Try the parfum, don't even bother with the EDT as it is just a tease. It doesn't really change a whole lot from start to finish. The drydown is spicy vanilla with hints of the orange.

Patou pour Homme and Patou pour Homme Prive both smell rich and expensive. None of the new releases come close to these classics!

Bois Du Portugal and Dunhill Edition both smell real classy like.

Dior's Eau Noire
Luxurious - makes me think of clean Egyptian cotton sheets, leather upholstery in a car, a fine tailored suit, crisp white shirt and thick silk tie. Makes me think - FORMAL, MONEY, GENTLEMAN. Smells - clean, powdery, not too powerful...

Dunhill Edition
Dunhill For Men
Chanel Pour Monsieur
Chanel Egoiste
Eau Sauvage
Acqua Di Parma
Baldessarini

Boring suggestions I know. Depends on what you mean by luxurious - other may take it to mean exclusive, niche, smelling rare or exotic or powerful / full on...

Just my two bobs worth.

Dupont Signature PH
Escada PH
Heritage
JHL
Dunhill '03 - on me at any rate.

My guess is that oriental-leathery types of frags might work.

I agree with with Dia, Heritage, and Eau Noire.

A couple more that come to mind are Czech & Speake No. 88 and Ormonde Jayne's Ormonde FM.

I totally concur with Czech & Speake No. 88! reminds me of a refined dandy.

Poivre, En Avion, Royal Bain de Caron & Tabac Blonde remind me of luxury.

Everything from Boucheron,
Kiton ,yes,indeed
and also Salvatore Ferragamo Pour Homme.
Boucheron Pour Homme, Guerlain Heritage and Penhaligon's LP #9 for men.

I second Chanel Pour Monsieur (Concentree). It is very elegant. However, the most luxurious fragrance I have smelled thus far is Royal English Leather. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Easy decision: Patou Pour Homme
hmmm how do you know wich one is luxurious without relying heavely on the brand? i have smelled many scents that are no-name no-nothing and seem "luxurious".
I guess it really depends in what your concept of luxury is and how do you handle yourself in such an evironment and also what you thought was luxury when you were growing up. It's very much a personal choice!.

Wow! Thanks for the many, many suggestions fellas!

I have to bookmark this and give a lot of these a try. There were a couple mentioned that I remember skipping at the fragrance counter, so I have to remember to give them a try.

And yes castorpollux, views on luxury can be personal and subjective. My view happens to be of a gentleman in a sharp tuxedo with a knack for taste. So I figured he should be wearing a quality fragrance that also speaks his style.

....or something like that. I have yet to own a tuxedo, so I'm daydreaming at the moment. ;D

I'd like to add Cartier Pasha.

Any time I wear this I feel that I should be wearing a tux.
Of those not yet mentioned I would nominate the following:

Le Dandy from D'Orsay
Must de Cartier Pour Homme (+ L'Essence version)
New York from Parfums de Nicolai
Tabac Blond
Idole de Lubin (new)

Baldessarini.... or MI by Creed
To me it`s quite weird that no one mentioned Envy. Very refined, very classy.
Totally agree with the SL Fumerie Turque and Must de Cartier pour Homme.

If you like incense at all, you can't go wrong with Creed's Angelique Encense- classy, luxurious and sophisticated.

Also Chanel Cuir de Russie in parfum. I know it's "supposedly" for women- but it's a luxurious leather perfume and it smells gorgeous (and expensive) on men too.
Lots of great suggestions, and I agree with many of them, but one not mentioned that I wore earlier in the week is the criminally underrated Oscar de la Renta pour lui from the early 1980s. This is a rich, opulent scent that is unapologetically FRENCH. Added bonus: it can be found quite inexpensively online.

Amouage Gold & Dia. Chanel Antaeus. Lauder's Knowing. Ungaro III....and many more......

Double ditto--especially Concentree.

"Luxurious"?

Green Irish Tweed
Bois du Portugal
Himalaya
Michael (Kors) for Men
Platinum Egoiste
Blv Notte
John Varvatos

There are so many good suggestions above that I can only think of 2 "luxurious" fragrances that haven't been mentioned already. Both are from MPG:

* Eau des Iles

* Ambre Précieux

In fact I'm not a fan of Ambre Précieux, which I find too sweet for my tastes. But it is certainly an opulent, luxurious smelling juice.

Vintage Tabarome

Hard to beat this for a feeling (an aura, even) of luxury.
It's been mentioned quite a few times here, and I can only second that:

BOIS DU PORTUGAL. Absolutely smells like a "luxury" scent, very sophisticated and IMHO wearable both by the 20-year old clubkid and the 60-year old businessman. Heaven!

You might also want to consider trying Jaipur pour homme (edp-strength!), Cartier Santos and Guerlain Vetiver. Vetiver seems to trigger the "luxury" response in many people since it's been released in the 60ies where frags were very rare and more for the "luxury" people. Enough people wore it to make it known, yet not so many people as to make it common. When you wear it these days, especially people aged 30 or above seem to think of it as truly luxurious ... quite a nice effect, and seems to stir up the memory of people, regressing them back to childhood days.

New York and Santal Noble

Boucheron PH smells that way to me.
