Hands down best fragrance?

Thread Starter
Though it's a tough question, is there a hands down, best fragrance for you guys?
Definitely a tough call between the 'Scent of a Woman' and 'the smell of Napalm in the Morning.'
No. It changes day-by-day!
There is no such thing, just as there is no such thing as a perfect circle. In both cases, only the idea or notion of one exists (a perfect circle existing only as a mathematical theory, and we all know about the quest for the "holy grail" of fragrances).
Yes, I think everyone will agree the best fragrance of all time, the world over is PS Paul Sebastian Fine Cologne...LOL. Now that we've got THAT settled...
Yes. It's Kiton.
It's the most expensive EDT I ever paid for.
It's the most expensive aftershave splash I ever paid for.
It's the most expensive aftershave balm I ever paid for.
It's the smoothest, classiest scent I own.
It was instrumental in getting me the lady of my dreams.
My life would be very different now if not for Kiton.
It was worth every cent I paid for it.

But that doesn't mean I wear it all the time, I keep it for special occasions.

I would have to say Creed's Trombone and I believe all would agree with me who smelt it....thought it very elusive scent to find.

Samples can be obtained from Ipaidforthisname....

Toss up between Kouros and Kingdom

Just kidding.

Toss up between Antaeus and The Third Man

No, that isn't quite right.

Toss up between Piper Nigrum and Tabac Blond

Can I redo that?

Kouros. Period.

Vintage or New Tabarome? The Vintage is great, the New is just too much ginger for me.

My favorite hands down is Santal Noble.
No such thing as "best". "Best" is unique to the user. And as for me, it changes monthy ... sometimes weekly. This week it's Damien Bash's "Sin".

Now favorite? That's another story.

My wardrobe will never be without Escada Magnetism .... but that's just me. [smiley=grin.gif]

Hi all,

(Sniff...sniff..sniff...) Hey...Scentimus...what's that smell ? Could it be....hummmm....SARCASM (echo:SARcasm Sarcasm sarcasm)? LOL (at least I THINK you are trying to be sarcastic but...I dunno). At any rate...CREED new TABAROME is TRULY my OVERALL favorite fragrance (and has been for well over a year)! However...SMN "ACQUA DI CUBA" is a CLOSE second...and I mean VERY close! YSL "KOUROS" would most likely come in third not only due to it's BEAUTY but also due to it's reasonable cost. That being said...for me personally...CREED TABAROME works well and...I believe I could wear it most every day (unlike many of my SPECIAL fragrances). Oooh MPG "EAU DES ILES" continues to be my favorite SPECIAL fragrance (along with SERGE LUTEN "FUMERIE TURQUE&quot. LORENZO VILLORESI "PIPER NIGRUM" continues to rank right up at the TOP as well.

Regards,
SixCats!

If I was forced at gunpoint to name my favorite fragrance of all time, it would be Davidoff's Zino. Lush, luxurious and unique.
Floris No. 89 has been my favorite for some time now. Crown Sandringham comes the closest after that.

Habit Rouge, of course!

But everyone has different skin chemisty and people wear fragrances different ways, etc. So there can never be a best fragrance all around, just best fragrances for individuals.
Designer fragrances: D&G pour homme, without a doubt. Love it.

Niche: Creed MI, love it as well and it almost fits every occasion.
If I had to name one, I would choose Caron L'Anarchiste. This is not to say that it's the most versatile, I just love the fact that the name, bottle, and juice inside are so much different than anything out there. And I like different.
An impossible question to answer but I will pick either JHL or Santal Noble.
if i had a swat team, two sniper teams, 3 tank bettalions, 5 f-16's and Osama before me and and demanded an answer, i would probably say Piper Nigrum; they they mistrust me and exclaim "your last chance to tell the truth a$$$#%" then i would probably say Tangerinevert by MH; should they run out of pateince and knee cap me then i would blurb out MI by creed; should they finally end up killing me then i would tell God"(well, i haven't died yet!!)"

Insense' the original, not that ultramarine crap

Whenever i wear this, its specialness and originality never ceases to amaze me.

Nice choice! Definitely a contender for me, too! However, after much mulling about I would have to say I am perpetually impressed and intrigued at the same time everytime I use Nino Cerruti Pour Homme.

I would have to agree with Ballard, even though I do find Zino to be a bit limited in wearability. It's pretty heavy for daytime/suntime wear. But it's just so dreamy, so beautiful -- wearing it is like being high. So if I could only have one, it would have to be Zino. I couldn't stand being without it.
Creed Trambone??! I assume this is a typo and you meant Tabarome?
If I really had to go with just one, it would have to be Patricia de Nicolai New York.
When I think of perfume, I don't think *hands down*. I think *legs up*.
I'm quite dubious about this question.

My approach to this would be to find the best fragrance by popular opinion by means of a poll.

My Initial thoughts would lead to me to ask - what criteria would the "best" fragrance be based on? I'm afraid there is no simple answer to this as it is too subjective a question.

While I havn't met her yet, (pretty sure/hope..) I am quite interested in Kiton, if it is this potent. Never heard anything about it...(then again, never really looked) any more info on this one, Renato?

Egoiste. Or By Dolce & Gabbana. Or D&G Pour Homme. Or Tabarome. I give up.

Does anyone else feel that Kiton smells very much like Burberry London (or the other way).
I'd probably have to go with D&G pour homme because it seems to be a little bit different each time I wear it.

I love Eau Sauvage above all else

GEIR. I wish I had discovered this one sooner. I would have saved a lot of time and money searching for the "ultimate oriental". I adore this one so much that if I had only one scent in the world, this would be it. I haven't received one compliment while wearing this fragrance, but it doesn't matter. It compliments me. Milamber hit the nail on the head when he described this in his notebook as "tears of an angel". Â*

I think for me it would have to be CDG "Avignon". When I first put it on I am transported from the earthly realm to the spirit realm. I feel holy, purified, centered and calm. Growing up Catholic, I had brief moments of spiritual centeredness and this reminds me of knealing on hard benches and praying. I guess it wakes me up from this physical reality and whispers, "There is more going on than meets the eye!".

For the past couple of months i've been reaching quite often for HM EDT.
What a buttery smooth, masterfully blended fragrance. This scent amazes me with each and every spray, i can't get enough of it! Not too sweet, the citrus notes give it a slight 'bite'.

So if i HAD to live with one scent only, HM EDT would be my choice.

Ah, hell, I see now that I've already answered this question from the past! ;D Um, yeh, it would definitely be one of these two (Nino Cerruti Pour Homme and Zino Davidoff)!

I must put up a list, not a single frag.

New Haarlem
Dia
Mania
Cuiron
Avignon

You stole my thoughts. HM is the closest to a perfect scent that I have found. It and A*Men are the only 2 scents I knew I had to have instantly after smelling them.

I dont think i have a favorite fragrance, i'm always on the search for different fragrances, and my top 5 is always changing. But if i was held at hostile situations, i would say ROCHAS MAN, lol that's right!!!!! To many people it's just a normal gourmand, but this is seriously hands down my most complimented fragrance since my Basenotes era, and it's just so addicting, never gives me a headache, sorta have an anti-depressant effect too, lol. When everybody from all walks of life compliment you on a fragrance, you know you have something special, and to me ROCHAS MAN is THE ONE to keep forever, i think i'm going to wear it in my wedding, lol....i'll shut up now.
Love these old threads when Basenotes used to be great.

Patou pour Homme
Mine overall is Portrait of a Lady by EdP Frederic Malle but if we are talking fragrances specifically marketed to men then Giorgio for Men (vintage) by Giorgio Beverly Hills
post #47 of 80
I was checking to see if my tastes had changed in seven years. They haven't. I still don't believe in a best fragrance, lol.
Do you now believe in a perfect circle?

God I miss many of those guys who posted to this thread 8 years a go.
Tough question, but I guess it will be Lumière Noire Pour Homme by Maison Francis Kurkdjian...
I think ' Santal Noble' (original) and Fumerie Turque (original) both circa 2007-2008
post #51 of 80
For me it's tough to cite one as a best.

I don't know how BN was in the past, since I only joined a few years ago, but I enjoy it immensely today.

And to answer the original question:

Nope. Can't think of one.

My favorite smell is Chanel's Eau de Cologne, but I wouldn't say it's the best fragrance. Not versatile enough, poor longevity, and virtually no compliments.

I have yet to find the holy grail, but the best batches of Millesime Imperial come very, very close.
I would say vintage Shalimar.
I can't choose just one as there are several that has won me over.
H.O.T. Always!!!!

Dunhill Blend 30
If I had to pick one out my my entire fragrance history, it would definitely be Dolce and Gabbana Pour Homme. But the vintage stuff, not the reformulations.

It was my signature scent. My trademark.

The day I found out first hand it was reformulated, you'd think someone shot my dog in front of my eyes.

Frapin - 1697 limited 50ml absolu concentration

Dior Homme
I'd love to pick one but it seems that the answer has changed several times over the years. WHen I think I could never live without a certain frag a few months/years later I find that I'm just not as big a fan as I thought I was.
