What do you guys think of this one? I ordered it blindly based on the reviews in the Basenotes directory....

I like Van Cleef & Arpels pour Homme a lot! It's quite masculine and smells like very expensive soap to me. Had to go for two original miniatures.

Tsar is not bad, but not as good as pour Homme. Also here some minis ordered.

Zanzibar starts sweet and dries down to something not so sweet ....
The drydown I don't like.

Interestingly enough I discovered this fragrance in the most unexpected way when I spotted a bottle amongst my mothers perfumes and assorted toiletries during a random visit! She'd been given it as a gift by someone who didn't understand 'homme' is French for male *shakes head depressed*. Anyway still sealed and unused I promptly rehoused it in my own humble little collection (after politely asking and with dear mothers kind permission of course!)...I've since prasied that days good luck more than once, I have found it to be a great scent, very unique, certainly alongside my other scents in any case. The directory someone compares it to an afternoon walk alongside a river bank with the aroma of fresh earth after the rain. That says it perfectly for me...only trouble I have with this one is finding an occasion it fits. Just doesn't seem approppriate for most everyday activities, or god forbid a drunken night on the town. It's a refined genteel little scent that requires refined genteel enviroments to work it's magic really...but it's worth it because in the right setting, magical it is!

One of the dark and sinister, brooding scents. A gothic creature from the darkest night.

VC&A pour homme is one of the first purchases I made after discovering Basenotes and I was not dissapointed. Zanzibar and Tsar are also nicely composed.
