Here are some fragrances I associate with certain films:

CHICAGO: Â*Le Dandy
COCTEAU'S BEAUTY AND THE BEAST: Â*Voleur de Roses
LAWRENCE OF ARABIA: Â*Yatagan
BERGMAN'S THE SEVENTH SEAL: Â*Avignon or CdG Tea
ALEXANDER NEVSKY: Â*Creed Cuir de Russie
BLUE VELVET (DAVID LYNCH): Â*Bel Ami
KUBRICK'S CLOCKWORK ORANGE: Â*Clinique Happy

If Hollywood introduced SMELL-O-VISION, they might get back some of the audience they've lost.

Father Merrin in The Exorcist would probably wear "Passage d'Enfer".
My ideal Lestat in Interview with the Vampire would probably wear "L'Egoiste"
Gael Garcia Bernal in Bad Education would wear "L'Orange Verte"
The ladies in Muldholland Drive (during the happy parts) ==> L'Heure Bleu
...those are about the obvious ones I can think of right now...

I don't know about "Smell-o-vision", but there was a movie which was released with "Odorama" scratch-and-sniff cards, Polyester. Will we smell the likes ever again?

Rather than any specific fragrance, I remember Vittorio Gassman's wonderful acting and obsession in Profumo di donna (poorly remade and sanitized as Scent of a woman with Al Pacino). It's Gassman's frenzy and appetite for sex I visualize whenever I think of 'sillage' in a movie.
I may be wrong but I heard Black Narcissus with Deborah Kerr is named after Caron's classic perfume Narcisse noir, which is still available. (The film tells the very unlikely story of Anglican nuns trying to establish a community in the Himalayas... Who had this idea in the first place ?)

For some reason, when I first smelled CdG2 eau de parfum, I immediately pictured the scene in Charade where Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn are getting all lovey-dovey on that boatride in Paris.

Also a combination of some of the Comme des Garcons (Palisander, Harissa, Zagorsk, and Odeur 53) remind me of aspects of the film Koyanasquaatsi.

Marylin Monroe problably worn N. 5 in "Let's make love" when she dances dressed only in sexy sweater. And this legendary smell mixed up with her own skin perfume made turn Ives Montand and other guys heads!!! I love this scene!!!

Black Narcissus is quite the film. A real hothouse atmosphere, with frustrated nuns and simmering sexual tension. Gorgeous Technicolor. A real gem from Powell and Pressburger.

Regarding Hannibal Lecter, Anthony Hopkins, I understand that his signature scent is SMN Potpourri (a fabulous choice, if I do say so myself). He was introduced to the scent when he was filming Silence of the Lambs on location in Italy, and visited the Santa Maria Novella shop in Florence.

Koyaanisqatsi is an amazing film, and you guys nailed it with the Comme des Garcons suggestion.

I saw a lot films listed here that sound very interesting. I must seek them out. Thanks for all the great responses. There are obviously some real cineastes here at Basenotes.

There was a recent thread about the grooming scene in American Psycho, which was interesting. This got me thinking about films and fragrances in general - are there any other films which have fragrance-related scenes? I can think of The Anchorman...

Also, which fragrances suit your favourite films?

E.g.
The Last of the Mohicans - Kouros
American Beauty - Rose 31
Inception - The Dreamer

Can you think of any more?

A week ago I watched "The Strange Love of Martha Ivers" from my Film Noir collection box. Sam's girlfriend Toni (Lizabeth Scott) with her distinctive hoarse voice reminded me of the (new) Tabac Blond and its perfect impersonation - hoarse, rough edges but soft to the core

Scarface (1983)- Versace L'Homme, I mean, whenever I spray this frag, I can almost hear Pacino's unmistakable voice with his perfectly mastered accent
Scent of a Woman (1992)- well, an obvious combination between Mitsuko, Bay Rum, Floris and Fleur de Rocaille
The Remains of the Day (1993)- although not worn by the main character Stevens, but far more by the aristocratic guests of the historical mansion: beyond any doubt, Blenheim Bouquet (since the non-fictional Winston Churchill is mentioned as one of the house-guests, both in the film and the novel, and we know Churchill's fave scent)
Un amour de Swann (1984) and Le temps retrouve (1999)- both inspired by Proust's lenghty novel, Mouchoir de Monsieur

... however, I still have doubts about what the characters- both the ones "in this thing of ours" and all the law-abiding ones- male or female, in the TV show "The Sopranos" (1999-2007) would wear, the TV show being so complex and with so many diff rent possibilities of interpretations/associations, I could hardly tell which fragrance would suit which specific character, specific scene, specific plotline
