Marine / aquatic scents .......................

I'm interested in picking up another couple of marine/aquatics. At this time I have L'eau d'Issy and Erolfa in my collection. These are, in my estimation, true aquatics.

Can you, dear basenoters, offer advice on these and others?

Many thanks:

One of my favorite categories.

~ Inis - a "kinder, gentler" Issey

~ Polo Blue - nice use of cucumber, but poor duration

~ Acqua di Gio - the king of being much maligned is still quite good to my nose and I don't find myself in environments where it is "overused".

~ Bond No. 9 Wall Street - overpriced for what it is, but I still do enjoy it. I've not worn it that much yet since it was a winter acquisition and I tend to wear these more in warmer weather. Much more ozonic than any of the others I've tried and also has a nice cucumbery note.

~ Halston Unbound - the king of inexpensive marines, very similar to AdG, but with a bit more sweet watermelon opening. I found a set at TJ Maxx that included the 50 ml EdT and aftershave balm for $7!. Unfortunately, the bottle fell and shattered on my bathroom floor.

~ Hermes Eau de Merveilles - you'll have to check the women's counter for this one. I only have a small decant of this one and while I really like it, its too faint in the two wearings I've tried so far. http://www.basenotes.net/cgi-bin/for...176953;start=0 will take you to Serpent's excellent review of this one.

~ Angel Schlesser Homme - another one similar to AdG, but better from my recollection. The faint rice notes are what make it interesting.

~ CSP Aqua Motu - still on my want to try list

~ Calypso Marine - it has been a long time since I've sampled this one, but I remember really liking it. Another on my want list.

~ Body Shop Oceanus - another on my want to try list, as recommended to me by scenteur7.

~ CK Escape - it has been a LONG time since I've smelled this one, but I think it was probably most responsible in terms of launching the marine / ozonic phase that dominated men's fragrance releases in the 90's.

Hope that helps.

Zdime,
you have two of the best, even though Issey is no personal favourite of mine.
May I suggest the original Kenzo. Its very salty fresh with bamboos and seaweed, good staying power, originality and just smells fantastic -a winner!

Try Aqua Quorum by Puig. When I wear it , I feel like taking a sea bath!
Its so fresh and spicy that you feel as when you have just gone out of the sea water... a salty/marine smell!
But It's very spanish, in your face sea smell...
You should give it a try!

My favorite is Wall Street...I just purchased a 1/3oz decant of it.
IMO it is the best. ÊI have Laguna, L'eau par kenzo, and Erolfa.
I think those are aquatics...at least they are to me Ê

Oh, I have also tied Motu and I DON"T like it at all.
traded away my decant.

8) Hi Rob . . . Ca va? If you have a strong stomach, and better yet, a stuffed up nose . . . try HEI, by Alfred Sung. This is about as watery as a fragrance, gets . . . burp.

** Rochas Aquaman ** ;D

And I agree with the earlier recommendation of Kenzo Pour Homme. It's like swimming in the ocean. And a lot of women around me love it.

The best (in my opinion) two out there:

1) Bond 9 - Wall Street

2) CSP - Motu

I think Bvlgari Aqva is better than AdG. The best is still Erolfa.

Check out Aquaman, Nautica, Nautilus Aqua, Kenzo Homme, Insense Ultramarine and it's numerous marine variations, and other scents with marine notes like Michael Jordan Cologne, Escape and Laguna.

Just tried Bond #9 Wall Street last night from a sample. Excellent stuff. Not sure yet whether it's worth the price though.

Victoria's Secret Very Sexy for Men II considered an aquatic? It also has strong pepper and woody notes.

Did anyone mention Issey Bleue? This has some dirty ocean notes in it.

Rochas Aquaman.

In my opinion, you have the best one in Erolfa!

Wall Street would be a good addition, marine thru and thru, in a way not quite as dirty/salty as Erolfa.

CSP Motu for a cleaner, fresher marine...one that I sometimes layer with the two above.

Cheers,
Jim

I would certainly agree with 1805 and second Aqua Motu, Wall Street, Erolfa and Inis.
