La Maison Fragrance (Place Ville-Marie, ) öCLOSED-

Hello just wanted to give a little update here since I have been to a couple of these this week.
Spritz Depot is either no longer there or has moved.

Cosmic is a stand inside of a small mall complex. I did not see many discontinued or rare as it was described. In addition, I have never seen such over retail prices anywhere in the world. Even figuring exchange rates, some of the fragrances were as much as quadruple the retail price. For example I saw that Jacomo de Jacomo was priced at 79.99 CAD for a 100 ml. I really cannot think of a situation where they could sell 1 bottle to anyone who has researched prices at all for fragrances.

I will be visiting more of the above stores hopefully this week and will add my comments later.

Does anyone know where i can find Bond No. 9 fragrances to try out in Montreal? I want to try them out before purchasing them.

thanks

Hey - apparently there's a discount store near Cremazie metro. Anyone know where and what it is? Anyone been?
Hi Gaius Iulius Caesar

This store is located in a small shopping center just North of Cremazie on St. Lawrence blvd., on the West side. The store is in the basement. You can find the same merchandise and prices at 2 other locations: Queen-Mary and Decarie, and right behind the Bay on De Maisonneuve blvd.

Right behind the Bay? Cool - I'm right near there a couple times a week. WHat's the place called, I've never once seen it and I must have walked by there hundreds of times. I am pretty oblivious though...
Actually, I don't know how it's called. Their windows are full of signage. Blue is the dominant color. The store sells electronics (upfront) and perfumes (in the back). Only mainstream. Some good deals. I have seen Ralph Lauren Chaps at $20 for 1oo ml at the store on Queen-Mary.

I also checked another store (unrelated) today. It's called Parfumerie éternelle. Large selection, many discontinued. Alos many Italians and Spanish perfumes, 4 0or 5 Creeds. The address is: 5175, Bélanger E. Phone: 514-374-6111. www.parfumerieeternelle.com. No taxes when paying cash or using Interac.
The PharmaPrix at St. Catherines and Bleury has a pretty good selection. You won't find any Creeds there but they have a nice variety of designers. Everything is out in the open for you to play with and the SAs aren't pushy. Look for Mary if you decide to shop there. Excellent service and knowledge.

I would much prefer to go here than at the Bay down the street.

There is a Sephora at Fairview Pointe-Claire. Just want to know before I trek over there, do they sell Fragrances at Canadian Spehoras? I think I heard they just sell cosmetics, hair care, etc.

They do sell fragrances: about 5 SLs, several CSP, lots of designer and mainstream ones too. Plus, they give you samples if you ask!

Does Montreal have any Scentbar style perfume boutiques that sell a lot of niche? I do most of my sample shopping online so I've never really looked.

No, no scentbar

Most of my sampling is online as well. Here's what Montreal has that I know about:

Most of the Comme des Garcons can be sniffed (and purchased) and U&I Boutique on St Laurent

Most of the Parfum de Nicolais can be sniffed and bought at Les Senteurs de Provence on St Denis

Serge Lutens (exports only) are found at Ogilvy's

Annick Goutals at Ogilvy's

Hermes and Hermessences at the Hermes boutique at Holt Renfrew

Jo Malones, Odori, Tom Fords (not prives), Armani Prive, Cereus, Miller Harris, Etat Libre et Orange, Alexander Mc Queen, all at Holt Renfrew perfume section.

Chanel Exclusifs at the Chanel boutique at Holt Renfrew.

Spa de Guerlain on Greene Avenue for almost all Guerlains, including les Exclusifs Charnels.

Hope that helps a bit
Thank you for the tips, LoveTheScents! I might hit Holt Renfrew for some sniffin' this week.

Montreal-specific question. I am doing my bi-annual by-all-the-cheap-household-stuff-I-need trek to Wal-Mart this week - do they carry fragrances? I am specifically going to the one located right by the Cote Vertu metro station. Lemme know if anyone's seen any frags there!

I've seen Rive Gauche, both mens and womens, they always have a couple of Adidas frags, and they always have a couple of Paris Hilton frags, Quorum, a couple of Polos, and some random stuff that I didnt really pay attention to.

I noticed the other day that they have Bond no. 9 at Holt Renfrew. There is one old SA there in the men's fragrance section that I cannot stand though. She tried to screw me over multiple times by charging me for bigger bottles than I wanted, etc. Steer clear of her.
Thanks Stevo30 - and a correction - the mtero was Namur not Cote Vertu. They did have quite a few, mostly celeb scents for the women, and no Jessica Simpson Fancy so bah, no perfume from WalMart for me!

New info that I just read about----it seems that a shop on de la Montagne carries Rosines !!! I can't believe it! I haven't been there but must check it out:

Rosenstein Paris
2148 rue de la Montagne
Montréal, QC H3G 1Z7
(514) 287-7682

Any Montrealers interested in a local sniffathon??
At Place Versailles, the emporium of mononcles and matantes, a most suprising sight is the stand of Le Parfumier, which has a huge collection of discontinued and hard to find stuff.

I found, among other things: Grey Flannel, Caron Pour Un Homme and Le 3e Homme, Rive Gauche, and a hidden bottle of Moustache by Rochas! There's also some original Coriolan and some other Guerlains.

You pay full price on everything, but at least they have the stuff. The only downside is that they do not have testers for every fragrance, so you may have to be extra extra nice to take a whiff before buying some frags. http://www.leparfumier.com/index.php (their website has only a fraction of their inventory)

Dear all,

At a recent trip in Montreal I discovered the Montreal-based French Canadian perfumer Claude André Hébert at 1652 Avenue Laurier Est. He is a very sympathetic man and some of his creations that I tried during my very brief visit were rather exquisite. However, as I said my visit was very brief, because I had a train to catch. I, therefore, wonder if anyone has tried his perfumes and if there are any reactions positive or negative. I for once tried two perfumes that were extraordinary and lasted on my skin 5-6 hours after even 2-3 washes. The passenger siting next to me in the train said that I smelled heavenly. :-) Unfortunately, Héberts perfumes are available only in Quebec and online without any sample program in place. Any opinions?
All the best!

Michail, which perfumes did you try and like? Just curious. I have some of the Hebert perfumes. I agree they are very long-lasting. I particularly like Bombay. It's intended for men but I wear it with ease. Some of the other Hebert perfumes I like are Matador, Cascades and, in the feminine spectrum, Lumiere de Paris. Claude Andre Hebert's boutique has moved around a lot and I'm glad you found the current location. At the moment I'm not in town but it's on my agenda to visit the Laurier est boutique in the near future.
Hi there!
From the perfumes I remember trying one that stands out is Bombay! But I also remember trying a couple more that I liked ... names gone though. I already suggested to Perfume Court to bring Hébert’s collection for sampling. I haven’t checked if they have.
One of the most impressive things of course was that Claude André was at the shop ready to assist. He is really a very gentle person.
Enjoy summer!

I went to Holt Renfrew and Ogilvy today and although I had read (here among other places) that HR sold État Libre d'Orange, it seems that they don't anymore. It's not listed on the website and both SAs I asked had not even heard of the house... I'm disappointed!

Does anyone know where I could find ELD'O in Montréal? Thanks!

Alnysie, I don't know of any place now. They used to carry it in the Murale store in Place Ville Marie but I heard it was discontinued there too.

Thanks for the info! That's too bad... Seems like the only place I can get my bottle of Like This from is LuckyScent, then. I'm a little scared of using UPS but they seem to know how to handle it, I think I'll give it a try... and hope I'm not charged any additional fees at the border. :/

It might be worth a try to check with Murale first to make sure the news of discontinuing the line is correct. Good luck.

I did! They only had two bottles left with a huge discount (and they don't have them anymore! ), but no Like This unfortunately. The nice SA confirmed they wouldn't sell them anymore, and she didn't know where else in Montréal I could find them... But a huge thanks to you for the tip!

I used to think that I would never buy blind, but there you go, never say never!

Anybody know where we can find a tester for Bulgari Black?? The Bay doesn't seem to have it for sale and most of the smaller shops don't have testers
post #34 of 56
I've seen Black at many small shops, but few wanted to lend me a sniff. I seem to remember that the small perfume shop in the Eaton centre (mezzanine level, I think) had it and let me sniff.

You may want to try a place called Perfumerie Romance in the Atwater Metro station, it's right next to a watch store and some charming young ladies will take care of you. They're kind of across from Yellow shoes if I remember right.

I've also been wanting to sample some Creeds and was wondering whether Holt Renfrew on Maisonneuve had any samples (of Creed or others) that they were willing to hand out if asked?
I know they have testers but I don't like coming back every single time to retest the same fragrances over and over again so small sample vials might be simpler.

Thanks!
There are no Creed sample to be had, but you can spray from anything you want at the Holt counter. If you're extra-nice, the clerk may make you a vial, but look serious!

I'm happy to modify this post with the news that the Frédéric Malles are now available at Holt Renfrew! They had about 15 of them today, but Le Parfum de Thérèse wasn't among them. The SA told me they'd probably get more later.

Holt Renfrew also has By Kilian.

Ogilvy now (?) has Juliette has a Gun and Frapin (they're right next to the Lutens).

Wazoos, as Dan says, it's in Holt Renfrew. You have to go up to the boutique on the second floor and they have all Les Exclusifs. i love Sycomore. It has become my favourite vetiver. Once you try it, I would be very interested in hearing your impressions!

I think they don't have them *all*? The last (and only) time I went there were no testers for La Pausa, No. 18, or Bel Respiro, unfortunately. Still, I was glad to smell the ones I could!

They do have them all but they only have room for ten in the display and they hide the other three inside the cabinet. You have to ask for them.

Thanks for the update, Martin! Your list is very useful!

I'm not sure that La Baie sells the Goutals anymore. Did you see them recently? The SA told me last fall that they would only be sold at Ogilvy from now on.

I remember seeing the Goutals at La Baie before, but I am not sure if they still have them. I think that the Bond No 9 line may be took their place...
But I know for sure that the Goutals are still at Ogilvy.

Also, the Ogilvy Goutal rep said a new Fragrance is coming to town next month, Nuit Étoilée.

Went to the new Sephora today on Sainte-Catherine: most of their fragrances are the same as any department store's, but they offer Tom Ford (the SA said they have the whole line) and Atelier Cologne! They had 30 mL and 200 mL of all six fragrances, as well as a travel set (a box containing 7.5 mL atomizers of - I think - all six scents).
Last week the SA at Ogilvy's said that they are now the only retailer in Canada selling Goutal. Now if only I could find somewhere to buy Parfums de Nicolai.

Oh, yes! I recently discovered the store too. A couple of weeks ago attended a presentation on Atelier Cologne by a charming rep from NY and since then I have gotten Rose Anonyme and Vanille Insensée, plus the matching soaps. I remember peeking in there once a couple of years ago when they hardly had anything but now, in addition to skin care stuff, they have a few niche brands like AC, Penhaligon's, L'Artisan Parfumeur, Arquiste and Still Life. I also hope they get more. Very nice store and nice people--no affiliation on my part (disclaimer)--and the website is clear and easy to navigate.
