Dear Basenoters,

Perhaps some of you may have notice my being absent lately from Basenotes (then again...perhaps not! LOL). While tis' true I have been a bit BURNED OUT after (more or less) three years of being a active Basenote member, rest assure...I still VERY much love this site and all my friends. That being said, my time visiting Basenotes will be somewhat limited for the near future. Two weeks ago, my dear wife Susan was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. The large Tumor is IN-operable at this time. The GOOD NEWS is that all testing has shown that the Cancer appears NOT to have spread. Susan's Lungs, Liver, Bones, Lymph nodes etc. all test NEGATIVE...THANK GOD. Susan is to start AGGRESSIVE CHEMO this Friday. The plan is to shrink/dissolve the Tumor and at a later date perform a Lumpectomy. Susan's (otherwise) EXCELLENT health and age will be a great asset to aiding her recovery...hopefully CURE! We also plan to use both TRADITIONAL and HOLISTIC approach in Susan's treatment. As you can well imagine, this shocking news has changed the World as we know it. My petite little Susan (all 5' 1" 110 lbs. of her) is showing GREAT courage in spite of this situation. I TRULY believe that Susan will make a FULL RECOVERY! I am of course supporting Susan 100% (now more than ever) LOVING and CARING for my wife. If there are members here who are so inclined, I would appreciate it if you would please keep Mrs. SixCats! (Susan) in your thoughts and prays. Thank you.

Respectfully,

Tom Patrick aka SixCats!

Tom, I'm very sorry to hear this. I hope Susan will regain her good health very soon. Life can be fragile, but with your wife's courage and determination, and your strong mutual love for eachother, I'm confident that you will overcome this adversity together. My best wishes to Susan and yourself in these difficult times.

sincerely,
Marcello

I'm sorry to hear this sad news. I hope all goes well, and that she has a full recovery Tom.

I'd always heard that a cheerful positive mental attitude was one of the best weapons in the fight against cancer, and recently I've had a chance to observe it actually working - a friend of mine has survived what initially looked like terminal bowel cancer (albeit minus a bowel), and my mother has inoperable pancreatic cancer - one Doctor not really thinking she'd make it much past September - but she's currently doing pretty well, having to put up with one lousy day a fortnight for chemo.

So remember, absolutely no dwelling on thoughts along the lines of "Why did this happen to me?" - the answer to which is "It just did, that's tough luck - now how do I maximise the probability of survival?"
Best Wishes,
Renato

I am so sorry to hear that, Tom. On the positive side, a gal can usually beat breast cancer if it's detected before it metastasizes...so Susan's got the odds way in her favor. Still, chemo and the lumpectomy will be no picnic, I'm sure. How great that she has a loving man in her life help her through this.

I am deeply saddened to hear this news, Tom. I will keep Susan and you in my thoughts and prayers. Strength!

Hey Tom,

You and Susan hang in there. Great to hear that it hasn't spread any further, a good solid starting point. Now keep the faith, strong thinking and march forward to beat this. Very powerful weapons. I'll join you with prayers often. You're a wonderful couple of folks and very lucky to have each other. Just too rare any more.

Sincerely,

John

Dearest Tom & Susan:

With this kind of "knowing" -- nothing negative can prevail!

All best thoughts and prayers during Susan's recovery.

Hello Tom and Susan,

Recently a good friend of mine told me that she had been diagosed with breast cancer...so I can somewhat understand a bit of the dynamics and emotions of standing with and caring for someone you are so closely connected to during this challenge.

I will pray for both of you during this time that family and REAL friends surround you and help lift up your hands and surround you with love. Also that your love for each other will reach new heights and depths and that through this all that you will come out better people........

Sixcats, here's a partial quote on something that I recently wrote about breast cancer to a dear friend of mine about my own sister, my mom, and my aunt:

"My sister had it 25 years ago (coupled with MS, which has been in remission for years). Fast forward. Well she regularly throws slumber parties for her grandkids. All 13 of them. At her house. Gaaaah! I'd go nuts. We call her the Energizer Bunny. My mother had it and survived just fine for years and years, passing away from old age. My aunt (who's senile and suffering from Alzheimer's) had it 30 years ago. Each of them had masectomies and it never returned with any of them."

My (also petite) sister just keeps going and going and going. Nothing but nothing stops this little dynamo. Be encouraged, and be blessed. Both of you. You'll both be in my prayers. And it will be okay.

Both of you are in my thoughts and prayers...
I had a Doctor tell me that any persons recovery from any type of sickness is 10% medicine and the other 90% mental. It sounds like You and Susan have the 90% under control...A strong friendship will take you thru any storm that life can send our way!!!
God Bless.....Gary
