How the BCS was saved

Few people disagree about the inneficiency of the BCS. But few people also disagree about the best team in college football this year. the USC Trojans. My school SPANKED, humilated, embarrassed and did just about whatever they wanted to a bunch of back alley hicks in red and white. I really do think its unfair that Auburn who contends in the toughest conference in football didnt get to go in place of the pretenders from OK. Or even Utah who dominated every team they played. I think finally college football has a dominant team and whats more a dynasty waiting to emerge. Until the BCS gets a brain and installs a plus one system I hope they rank teams more efficiently. But for now the BCS looks pretty with a nearly undisputed champion. Who can beat the Trojans? No one.

Cheers,
Al

No matter what ever happens in college football, somebody will always find a reason to complain. Even if there was a playoff system, somebody would complain they weren't seeded right or they got left out.

I also have yet to ever hear of how the much ballyhooed playoff system would work in college football. Would it be every conference champion? Who would seed them? If every conference doesn't get their champion in, who decides that?

I'm glad its all over and we can move on to more serious matters...like the NFL playoffs and college basketball.

;D

P.S. Congratulations to the USC football team.

I think they should add a bowl game and call it the Toilet Bowl and the two ummm cr... umm sh... umm worst teams could play each other. Charmin could be the sponsor and the trophy could be a roll of gilded toilet paper.

It was a matchup between the two fugliest QB's in history. Well, at least Jason White took that matchup hands down.

I was really disappointed Oklahoma didn't put up more of a fight--all year long I had been unimpressed with USC because they play in a weak conference, barely beating VaTech, Calif, and UCLA, leaving me to wonder how they would fare in a Big Ten or SEC environment for a season. Oklahoma, in their lopsided loss, only managed to make USC look all that much better while I think Auburn or heck, Utah, could have put up more of a fight.

Give credit where credit is due, USC spanked them senseless, and proved their the no. 1 team, no doubt. As a side thought, I'm laughing at the ACC. First year schools Miami and VaTech vied for the crown, after having left the Big East. Now, forgetting the shambles they left the Big East in, what does that say about the ACC? Not a whole heck of a lot. The Big East with BC, WV, and Pitt was fairly competative against Miami and VaTech. With the emergence of UConn, additions of Cincy and Louisville, the Big East will gradually bounce back (especially since SU canned Coach P, who should have been canned last year, so one can only hope they'll return to the ranks of the winning in a few years). One thing is for sure, The Big East is going to be THE college basketball conference, hands down.

I think the ACC will have something to say about that.

Sorry, but I'd take the Big East as being the more competitive league any day, especially considering they've won the last few national championships. ÊAdding Miami, VaTech, and BC won't due too much for the ACC basketball, and losing them from the Big East AND replacing them with Cincy, Louisville, and I believe Marquette, will make the Big East all the more competitive. Ê

It's a no-brainer the moves helped the ACC in football, but it helped the Big East in basketball even more.

I just disagree with the statement the Big East will be the hands down best basketball conference. The ACC is consistently competitive and while the three new schools do water down the competition, I'd still put our top six schools up against any conference in the nation, regardless of who has won the national championships.

Just because USC won the national title in football doesn't make the Pac-10 the best conference in football, it just makes them the best team and obviously one of the strongest programs in the country. It will be very interesting to see if someone can lure away Pete Carroll, Matt Leinart (a year early) and Norm Chow to the NFL and how that would affect the USC program.

I'm glad to see the re-emergence of a strong Big East and hope to see more rivalries develop between the two conferences, which will benefit both leagues.

I agree--I don't know why they still have a Big-10/ACC Challenge in basketball, since the Big-10 has been down for several years (has Michigan done anything since the fab-5 freshman.... 15 years ago?) There are some good teams there, still, but they all seem to be on the downside--mostly due to coaching departures over the years. Heaven only knows what will happen to a SU after Boheim calls it quits someday. Georgetown and St. Johns still haven't recovered from Thompson and Carneseca.

agues.

Carroll aint goin nowhere. He did the NFL thing before. The guy LOVES recruiting and is intent on building an empire which he has. Leinhart might well leave he even sounded as if he was leaning toward the NFL after the game. Au Revoir it doesnt matter cause we got two more flame throwers on the bench waiting to explode. As for the girly mans sport, basketball, YAWWWN . . .(whats the use if no one gets their head knocked off?) I agree the ACC is a top division but I also agree that the Big East is a major division but dont forget about the SEC an often occassionally overlooked division ('cept for the Wildcats of course). Personally I'd love to see a no name like Gonzaga (STOCKTON BABY!) win a championship. Seeing UCONN, Duke, NC, Kentucky, Michigan EVERY FREAKIN YEAR is nauseating. UCLA has a revved up program this year they may turn heads.

*Incidentally I love basketball and think it can be as physical as any sport BUT as a former football player I feel the need to talk the trash about the winter sport of the scrawny (Ben and Shaq excused of course).

Cheers,
Al

Well, I'm a huge college basketball fan...but then, I went to Georgia Tech where it was more exciting when our "lethal weapon 3" team made the final four than when we split the national title in football. I also played a lot of basketball during summers growing up on Long Island and at 5'6", basketball was my best game since I used to be really proficient at tickling the twine and was tenacious on defense. It was one time when being short and closer to the ground gave me an advantage at stealing the ball from the "trees".

When it comes to football, I prefer the NFL, having grown up a Dallas Cowboy fan in my homestate of Texas.

I wouldn't exactly call Gonzaga a no name. Their cinderella status wore off years ago. I'll also say that watching them beat my team gave me renewed appreciation for west coast basketball, since I'm bias for the eastern conferences being more dominant.

As for Carroll, I think you are right in that he seems to enjoy the college game and player interaction. But, sometimes you still want to conquer the ultimate challenge and that is the NFL. LA almost got Coach K in basketball, but I think he made the right decision in staying at Duke, so one never knows what may happen. I think Norm Chow definitely needs to move up to the NFL, as his track record has nothing left to prove at the college level. He's an offensive genius from everything I've seen and read about him.

Anyways, nice to find a fellow BN'er who will talk trash and sports with.

Go USC. I spent some undergrad time there during the John Robinson first tenure. I was at the school when they won the championship in '78. I am still trying to figure out how they could beat Bama and have to share a national championship with them. That is/was worse than the BCS. ???
