Not that I am connected with the owner or getting money for writing my reports after visiting the cosy Beauty Cafe, but I cannot stay silent, since it is a local business with outstanding customer service.
OK, first things first. L'Artisan Fou d'Absinthe smells good!!!!!! Balsamic, herbal, alcoholic and woody at the same time. Pine needles and cypress type of woody. Very very dry, almost like Feminite du Bois minus the plum and plus medicinal herbs. I got a tiny sample and have to toy with it a little more to form a real impression. Full size bottles are not in the store yet, but should be there any day now. Would be wonderful on a right man. Mandarine tout Simplement is not bad, but I like my citruses more sparkling and the scents in general more complex.
Violettes de Toulouse are due to arrive soon too, in a new packaging, with the old-fashioned "bulb" sprayer. So I did not get that.
While we, the girls were playing and chatting, Mr.Timberwolf would not waste his time and started spraying too, "the one on the left, the one that worked" :
he said referring to the tester bottles being brand new and not giving any juice after pushing just once or twice. Gotta love him and his humor! ;D
My SIL was treated royally, since it is her birthday and we all happened to be off. She would spray and discuss and hoard and wait and spray more and sniff. Since we took her there, guess who paid the bill?
, but this is what she got:
-- Abinoam Beleza, although she wanted Desejo too (Cobice smells its best on Mr.Timberwolf);
-- CSP Vanille Banane (she said she wanted to bite herself, she liked it so much!);
-- Thymes Chocolatte Latte candle (no, she is not going to burn it, not right now);
-- Caswell Massey Sandalwood for my MIL whose signature includes but is not limited to Youth Dew, Panthere and Touvache (sp?) Gardenia,
-- she also liked L'Artisan Ambre Extreme and Mure Extreme, Bond #9 Scent of Peace and Soiree, CSP Bois de Filao and Vanille Coco, but we did not get any,
-- Ms. Lisa, the store owner gave my SIL a full size product of bath soak without charging for it, as a birthday gift.
I got Eadward Eclectic EDT -- made in Urbana Illinois and with the black ribbon around the box, honeyed jasmine tea, tuberose, not sweet at all, and I do not remember when I saw a bottle so full -- it was filled up without any space for an air bubble! I wanted to try I Coloniali China Peony for Audrey's thread about Peony fragrances, but I forgot, I liked their Guayac wood scent, I would be able to pull it off, I think!
Tried Caitlin (juuuuuuicy and modest fruity floral) and I heard it is being discontinued, so hurry up if you need this, tried Brandy (thank you, Ladylonestar, you were the first to direct me towards it while looking for the crisp and tart Granny Smith apple! :-*) and a few more Suzanne Langs. Could not get my hands on D'Orsay Intoxication, no testers for this.
Geir is as popular as ever: FedEx delivered a shipment and picked up some outgoing boxes consisting mostly of Geir while we were there. Even a FedEx delivery guy was interested in it! And you have probably guessed what Ms. Lisa did -- she gave him some samples!
And once again -- we got a 10% Basenotes discount and two bags full of samples.
Speaking about the orders over the Internet: right now Beauty Cafe site got a "Chat" function. When a door bell rings and the sound comes from the direction of her office computer, Ms. Lisa gracefully excuses herself and answers all the questions on the screen. How convenient is this!
Love the selection, love the service, love the person.
