Fragrances you hate the most

Thread Starter
Naturally, we give due respect to people who like the ones we hate, because there's no accounting for taste (including our own), and chemistry means a great deal (as we have all certainly found out!).

That being said...

What do you really hate? Not just feel neutral about or think you could grow to like, but the ones you really think are total stinkers. :-X

Here are some of mine to get the ball rolling (due respect, etc. etc. might smell good on you, etc. etc. ) I'm not going to limit it to perfumes aimed at women, because many of us "cross the gender line" where frags are concerned.

Dana Tabu
Estee Lauder Youth Dew
Faberge Brut
Britney Spears Fantasy
Chopard Wish
Chanel No. 5 (sorry, I know it's a classic, but I just hate it)

Okay. Gloves off. Which ones do you hate? (And one more note to people who like the ones others hate, it's nothing personal )

To begin with (I`m sure I will come up with more... ;D) :

Femme (Rochas)
Eternity (CK)
Le Male (Gaultier)
DKNY Be Delicious
Aromatics Elixir
Youth Dew
Taking in mind what you said (disclaimer Â*;D ) , because some of these might be viewed as sacrilege , but I cannot stand them all the same........

However hate is a strong word. Maybe great dislike. ( because I said I hated Hypnotic Poison and then I tested it again recently and quite liked it...)

Escape
Giorgio
Giorgio men's (harsh and bitter at the same time)
Amarige
Tabac Blond
Or et noir
AG Vetiver
Coco original
Light blue (has to do with everyone wearing it , though...)
Kenzo men ( the blue bamboo bottle)
Datura Noir
Ambre Sultan
Daim Blond
Miel de bois (it may seem like I dislike Lutens , but I love many of his...)
Etro Heliotrope
Wish ( but I like Angel !)
the new re-formulated Cabochard
White Linen (don't know , maybe it has been bad batches of samples I got)
Chloe Narcisse

I have been also burnt out on Tresor by someone who wore Tresor EDP by the truckload...

Eternity for man (smell of rotten fruits on me and gives me headache)
Moschino Uomo? (very stiff, cloying, headache guaranteed)
Eau d'Hiver by F. Malle (it makes me gag)
All the Hugo Boss stuff (boring, boring and trivial, no class at all)
Annick Goutal, Eau d'Hadrien (very good citrus top notes, exactly like Armani pour homme, but a horrible drydown)
Hermes, Terre d'Hermes (same horrible drydown on me)
Mugler Cologne (it smell of pure nothing to my nose)
Kenzo Air (no smell at all) :-?

Oh, I wanted to add:

CK One, not because it's a bad fragrance, but because it was so insanely popular and now it smells like absolutely everyone.

Luckily , the trend is over where I live (if only the Angel craze will die down soon , so I can wear it again once in a while in the future!)

Most recently:

Aqua Allegoria Lavande Velours - something about it doesn't agree with me. Â*Bought it unsniffed.

Bath & Body Works White Tea & Ginger shower gel/lotion - turned to Brut on me. Â*A big steamy shower smelling of Brut (or something). Â*Blech.

Bonni, I'm with you on Tabu, or anything now manufactured by Dana. Â*They can wreck anything. Â*Their Heaven Scent is really awful, too. Â*I like Youth Dew from afar but I can't wear it, it's too overwhelming for my skin. Â*Someone I used to be very fond of wore it so it has nice associations for me.

I don't hate many scents. Â*Even if I can't wear something, it usually smells good on somebody somewhere. Â*When I do hate a fragrance it's usually because it makes me queasy or irritable. Â*Doesn't happen often. Â*Blue Grass and Michael make me queasy. Â*Paloma Picasso smells delicious on a friend but made me feel irritable when I tried it myself. Â*It's fascinating, our response to fragrance.

p.s. I see a lot on here that I really like! :-D

Well let me join in on this one please:

Amarige would probably rate as No 1 (hurts my nose-too piercing)
Angel as No 2 (just too much overall)
Youth Dew No 3 (love the new one)
Femme (Rochas) No 4 (something just too cloying about it)
Chanel 5 No 5 (don't even get me started on that one LOL)
Burberry Touch No 6 (Yeah I do hate this one)
D&G By No 7 (terrible!!!)
Cabochard No 8 (sorry I know some of you love it, it just kills my nose)

Giorgio
Poison
L'Air Du Temps
Emeraude
Beautiful (Estee)
Le Male! yuck! go away already!

anything sickly fake-cottoncandy-sweet

a lot of the tommyH frags....overpriced wimpy frags

I DETEST knock-offs (my nose hurts!)

EL's beautiful (buttugly more like it)

there are lots of others but i tend to forget them on the spot so i can never recall the nightmare...
Can't stand White Diamonds (perhaps the bottle i got as a gift is off!!)
Don't much care for Chanel No.5 either. Both seem too heavy and
cloying to my nose.
Miel de bois Â*> Â*Miel de bois Â*> Â*Miel de bois Â*> Â*Miel de bois Â*> Â*

The only sample that, in order to save the world, I threw it away--Not just poured it down the drain (no, that would have released it)--actually put the thing in the garbage. I could not, in good conscience, even give that away. Honey bees should have attacked Serge Lutens personally and brought him to his knees for corrupting their unpatented scent.
I do like n:r 5, but no other Chanel.
I do like L´Instant, but no other Guerlain.
No one of Thierry Mugler´s is something for me.
I can´t wear any Burberry, they are too sweet.
I detest Gucci EdP I.
I don´t like Cartier´s fragances at all.
No one of Nina Ricci´s is for me.

This list can be much longer. I like fresh fraganses, I suppose. They can be both heavy and dark, but they can´t be too sweet.
OK so lets see my top disliked fragrances!!!!! No one asks you that one often for sure

I'd have to go with some of the ones that have been mentioned already so not to sound like a broken record but I agree with:

Chanel #5 (I just don't get it... no appeal for me)
Amarige (this one drives me nuts, and I just DON'T like it)
L'Air Du Temps (I just don't get what I'm supposed to be getting form it to like it)

I really dislike all Max Azria scents... (Metro, Sexy, Nature and Star) NO NO NO
All Celine Dion fragrances are terrible too!!!!
Ohh Avon Imari (I think I can truly say I hate that one... someone I know used to wear too too too much of it and to this day it nauseates me!)
By Revlon I don't like Ciara (too strong) or that Fire & Ice stuff
Ohh and I really am not too crazy about Coco either...
Cool Water is not too impressive either...
Creation by Ted Lapidus (nasty!)
Crystal Noir by Versace (I don't hate this one, but just find it non-distinct)
Premier Jour by Nina Ricci (smells like sticky hairspray)
I think just about all Elizabeth Taylor fragrances I dislike too...

Well I'll leave it at that, although I'm sure I could think of more...

By the way this is an awesome topic Bonni!!!!

Anything, but anything, by Caron. Smell beautiful in the bottle, truly vile on me. It must be chemistry, I know that. Something about me just makes them stink so that I have to scrub them off.
For now....
1. Joop Pour Homme
2. Aromatics Elixir
3. Tabu
Gary

tee hee - this is cathartic! Â*Here are some of the fragrances I've really disliked either because they smell horrific on me or whomever I knew that wore them...(do NOT be insulted if I name something you love because I'd probably love it on you too!)

Jess
Brut
Old Spice
Drakkar Noir
Eternity
Escape
CK One
CK Be
Calvin Klein Contradiction
Calvin Klein Truth
Candie's
Light Blue (I know how much people love this - and I like it on test strips, but it smells like diapers on me)
John Paul Gaultier Classique
Be Delicious
Ralph
Ralph Cool
Lauren Style
Pure Turquoise
Clean and every Clean version that came after it
Clinique Happy
Clinique Simply
Clinique Happy To Be
J'adore (please don't hate me)
Cacharel Promesse
Pure Poison
Aftelier Cocoa
212 Sexy
Miracle
Poeme
Jil Sander Pure
YSL Cinema
Napa Valley Boehme
Bond No. 9 Broadway Night
Brandy
Dinner by Bobo
Kingdom
Calypso Jasmin
Calypso Violette
Calypso Vanille
La Prairie Silver Rain
Red Door
Elizabeth Taylor Passion
Elizabeth Taylor White Diamond and all the other Diamonds
Liz Claiborne Realities
5th Avenue
Arden Provocative Woman
Kenzo Flower (I like the smell of it but it's awful on me)

It seems like a lot, but considering the money I spend on fragrance I wish I hated more! Â*;D

OK, here's a list of my 20 most-hated men's and women's scents...

1) KOUROS!!! Sorry, but smelling like a dirty bathroom just doesn't appeal to me.

2) Any tuberose/gardenia floral (Fracas, Sand & Sable, and such). I can stand (and love) orientals and chypres with these two notes (Bond No. 9's Chinatown and Gucci Rush come to mind), but the soliflores kill me.

3) Paloma Picasso for women. Stinky, stinky, stinky, especially if you have the wrong chemistry. My Mom had to run to the bathroom to scrub this off.

4) Chaps for men by Ralph Lauren. Who wants to smell like horse poop?

5) White Diamonds by Liz Taylor. I liked when my Mom wore this at one time, but now I absolutely hate the stuff with a passion (pun intended).

6) Joop! Homme. Smells like cough syrup.

7) Kenneth Cole Black for men. I just don't get the appeal of this scent to the masses. But, then again, most of us Basenoters don't either.

8) Kenneth Cole Signature for men. Another yawner...you could do much better for the price.

9) Obsession for women by Calvin Klein. This powdery scent knocks me off my feet when overapplied.

10) Any knockoff you can find at the likes of Walgreens/CVS/Wal-Mart/Dollar Tree. Hand me a gas mask...

11) Anything pumped out of Hugo Boss, men's or women's (with the exception of the two Baldessarini scents). I guess that P&G (who also makes Tide, Febreze, Zest, and Olay, among other consumer products) wants to take line extension marketing to a new level.

12) Clinique Happy for women (the original and most of the Happy variations). Nothing much special...this doesn't make me happy.

13) Calvin Klein Eternity for men and women. The women's one is stinky. The men's one is overpowering. Neither are that good.

14) Giorgio Beverly Hills. Upchuck city.

15) Acqua di Gio for men by Armani. I'm only putting this on the list due to its massive overuse in the US.

16) PS Paul Sebastian Fine Cologne. You know that it's bad when you find a 10-year-old giftset of the stuff that was never used.

17) Lorenzo Villoresi's Piper Nigrum. This scent turned me off from his creations forever.

18) Givenchy Pi. Sweet, cloying powder to the nth degree.

19) Hanae Mori HM EdT (for men). As much as I love the EdP of this, I can't stand the EdT...a cloying floral mess.

20) Estee Lauder's Spellbound. No wonder it failed miserably.

You said it. The only awesomer topic would be 'Guerlain or vetiver fragrances you hate the most and want to send to Veronica for free'. Some of you may have received a PM from me regarding Aqua Allegoria Lavande Velours purchased unsniffed or AG Vetiver. Please keep in mind how much you [s]strongly dislike[/s] hate these fragrances. Grrr! Bad frag!

I am thinking Malizia Uomo Vetyver. Pretty strong Off! insect repellent accord. I don't hate it but I certainly don't L-U-V it.

I have Echo woman, and I like it okay. But I lived in Cincinati for four years, and there's a stretch of interstate that runs through the Proctor and Gamble factories campus where it smells like grape Kool-aid for two miles. Everytime I wear it, I do think of that stretch of highway!! ;D ;D ;D
