Traditional suggestions for a classy girl:

1) a sniffathon in a mall,

2) a set of 3-4-5 miniatures (to further explore Chanel, or something new for her: Dior, Guerlain, Hermes, Estee Lauder, Annick Goutal, many are available via Internet),

3) ask her what she wants this time: as based on what she already likes it would be florals, aldehydes, sweet perfumes with woods or spices. Another bottle of Mademoiselle in perfume concentration? Or, perhaps, she's got a couples of girls at work or family members whose fragrances she likes and wants to try on herself. Unlimited possibilities..... Somehow I think of JPG classic or Fragile, I do not know why.

I almost invariably steer newbies towards Eau des Merveilles. How about Chanel No. 22? Egads, there are sooooooooo many lovelies out there. Narciso Rodriguez or Ysatis maybe? I just wouldn't suggest anything overwhelming and agree with Wolf about an adventurous sniffathon.

I'm a rose scent fanatic myself. Try Paris YSL and Rose Essentielle by Bulgari--they're at the malls. Be forwarned though, the REbyB is delightful and I'll never be without it but it is not lasting (3hr-ish) and has small sillage. I love it anyway, and my boyfriend seems driven crazy by it. Go figure.

My suggestions: Pure Poison (Dior), Allure Sensuelle (Chanel), Opium Fleur de Shanghai (YSL), Bulgari pour femme, Fragile (Gaultier), Miss Dior Chèrie...
I think the most important here is that it is something classy, and that you like it too.
