Chanel Egoiste vs Platinum Egoiste - Page 2

LOVE Egoiste. It can also be purchased at Bloomingdale's.

Platinum Egoiste has a metallic note in it that I just cannot stand. Egoiste is an excellent oriental, with good longevity and sillage. The concentree version is outstanding in its depth and projection. It is rich and jammy. Buy it if you can find it.

I found both Bois Noir and classic Egoiste wonderful scents with the latter as my signature fragrance. PE never appealed to me.

I'm currently testing both of theses, one on each arm and to be honest I kinda like PE more. It's fresh and zesty while E is more animalic imo. I can see myself waring both but PE more often, idk it's something with the E notes that's weird for me. Am I crazy lol?

I prefer the Egoiste: it is richer, and distinctive. On my skin, it lasts longer and projects much better. I purchased mine from chanel website as it is $5 cheaper than the boutique at Century21.

On the other hand, I tried Platinum in warm weather and it just doesn't last. It is sharper on the nose, but quickly dissipates. My bottle is close to empty, and I don't think I will get another one.

I have both Egoiste and Platinum, but I wear the Platinum much more often. I generally only wear Egoiste if I'm getting dressed up and going out at night.

I'm curious how many sprays of each you guys use.
I do 2-3 sprays of egoiste.

Got my Egoiste in yesterday from the Chanel website for $75 free overnight shipping for Valentines Day. The dry down is flippin amazing. At first the top is harsh but its worth it in the dry down. Very spicy and the middle brings cinnamon out and smells awesome.

My thoughts EXACTLY. And with time I've learned to enjoy the top! The drydown is out of this world. It's something I actually crave at random moments when I'm not wearing Egoiste.

It probably angers the original Egoiste fans for me to say this, but I would agree that PE is the more contemporary and casual of the two, making it far more functional. But between the two - and I say this as someone who has little love for it - the original Egoiste is definitely the better scent.

Egoiste by 1000 miles

Does your Macy's typically carry Egoiste? I asked the TA at mine if I could try some, so she gave me the a tester of both Egoiste and Platinum. I came to buy Egoiste, but they didn't have any in stock, and didn't even have Egoiste in the computer registry...I'm just confused now, why would they have a tester of Egoiste if they don't sell it? I offered to buy the tester, but they refused to sell it.

I've never found it at Macy's. I had to go to Bloomingdales to get it. Odd since they're both the same company anyways.

You can always get it off Chanels website. They have insane shipping speed and you can always send it back if you dont like it. You can even set up a time and have it replenished. here is the URL:

I bought it to try it out and sent it back. Guess what ??I am ordering it again because it smells great.

Wearing a light application of Platinum Egoiste today for a change, reminds me of a masculine Guerlain Samsara. Very nice Sandalwood. What a great and extremely versatile frag.

I am wearing the same thing today. PE is one of the best masculine scents out there in this current market. You can't go wrong for the price either.

Afraid I have a dissenting opinion on Egoiste; equally afraid I have not fully tried Platinum Egoiste. Received a nice sample of Egoiste and tried it. I get a very nice light rose all the way through. No big sandalwood and vanilla dry down. It reminds me of a weak Ungaro III. Have given up pursuing it as a candidate.

Egoiste and Platinum Egoiste are such different fragrances. It's like asking whether a blender is better than a toaster. It depends what you're seeking. Clearly, Platinum Egoiste has won in terms of popularity. You can find it everywhere, still going strong since 1993. Egoiste, on the other hand, is being withdrawn from many stores in the US.

Personally, I appreciate the clean-cut, dry, coldness of Platiunum Egoiste. It is fairly linear, but if you like the fragrance that means it's good start to finish, and you never have to go through a "hold your nose" stage.

As an alternative to Egoiste try Armani Amber Orient... Instantly reminded me of Egoiste's drydown. Beautiful

I've tried the regular Egoiste a couple of times on my skin and I just can't like it. Smells way too old for me. Instead PE is one of my favourite scents. I will try the regular Egoiste again say when I'm on my 50s (I'm on my 20s now). I don't say it smells bad, it's just not for me. Could see my dad wearing it.

Absolutely true.

Let's face it: Basenotes IS a "niche" community, where the harder to find, the more rare, the less popular, the "better" (in many members minds).

HOWEVER.....

Platinum Egoiste is much more popular in a general sense. Like you said, in the United States...Egoiste is being withdrawn most places and is extremely hard to find, where as Platinum Egoiste is still very popular. And the reason is simple - it has a far more broad-based appeal to the masses that Egoiste does. And popularity sells, which is what businesses that carry these fragrances are in business to do: They're not in business to have something with a much smaller appeal (and fewer sales) sit on the shelves and look pretty.

Many Basenotes members, however, will support something that is much less popular, often times it seems, simply because it is less popular. Maybe it's kind of a "I know something you don't" mentality and attitude sort of thing....but if pure numbers count for anything, it's actually the exact opposite.

I'm in my mid 40's, and I still prefer Platinum over original....so I'm not sure your tastes and style will necessarily change with this one.
