What smells expensive?

I'm not asking what is or isn't actually expensive but what smells like rich bitch big money to you? My vote goes for Arpege (current version) and Blue Carnation (vintage). Le Baiser du Dragon could get a rec from me in winter but overwhelming for summer. Also Ambre Sultan, Bal a Versailles, Parure, and more that don't come to mind right now. What say you, my scentalicious friends?

Good question!! Hmmm...Fracas, reeks of "old money" to me!
En Avion, smells like pure luxury to me, fur coats and BIG diamonds
Chanel No.5...because it's ingrained in me to associate Chanel with wealth
Profumi Di Pantelleria's namesake scent, gorgeous rich bitch scent, it has an amazing oakmoss drydown, oakmoss for me = WEALTH

Well, for me, the male versions of the 'rich smelling' perfumes would be.

1) Givenchy Gentleman
2) Paco Rabanne Pour Homme
3) Open by Roger and Gallet (its a surprisingly good fragrance for the low low price).

Well, those are from what I own, and I've no doubt there are many many more that smell rich!

Editions de Parfums Iris Poudre
Editions de Parfums Carnal Flower (because it is BLOODY expensive)
Caron Narcisse Noir

Boucheron's Initial smells expensive to me- classy in an, "I don't give a damn," sort of way. I like the fragrance, but can only wear it certain times of the year and not too heavily or I find it gives me a headache. My husband says he finds it a little harsh and high-pitched, so I don't wear it around him obviously.

There is something blue-blooded about Patou's 1000 to me; everyone always goes on an on about Joy, but to me it's 1000 that smells over-the-top expensive.

First, in parfum, reeks of money too. There's something nearly green and crackling about it! It's also a very grown-up floral to me.

Madame Rochas- money, money and more money- especially the vintage. This one I passed on to a friend as I just didn't have the wardrobe to carry it off.

Woody Orientals. They smell expensive to me!!

Un Lys by Serge Lutens is my rich woman scent. It's not a rich bitch scent, I don't think...more of an old family money scent for the well finished young matron who is learning about throwing charity balls.

Most of the Amouages smell like a million dollars... they also practically cost that much though

Oh I so second that one!!!!!!

Others I think smell expensive are:
Carnal Flower, Le Baiser du Dragon, Jil Sander 4, Royal Doulton, Gucci eau de Parfum, Cuir Améthyste, Rouge Hermès, Samsara, Voile d'Ambre, Féminité du Bois, Mauboussin, Cedre, Fleurs d'oranger, Yvresse (even though I don't really like it), Allure sensuelle, Sublime, Cuir Beluga, Laura Biagiotti - Venezia

I get a mental image of Michael Caine in his snooty role (not "roll") from the very entertaining movie "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" every time I smell Baldessarini Del Mar (by Hugo Boss).

Love Hermes Ambre Narguile and it sure is not cheap

A woman's fragrance that I think smells very expensive is Chanel Cuir de Russie. Beautiful! Smells expensive!

Thank you, dears! How could I have forgotten Coco, First, and #5? There are several that I'm yet to try. I've never tried Patou's 1000 but I'm getting the itch to go ahead and go for a sample of it Ditto Feminite du Bois.

Vol de Nuit makes an ice princess image come to mind, an elegant one at that, and I love it. Yet I feel that there's a blank that should be filled in, something is missing, but maybe that's the beauty of it.

Anné Pliska, Lorenzo Villoresi Donna, Quelques Fleurs, Creed Jasmal, Vol de Nuit, Lalique Femme, Arpege, Le Baiser du Dragon, Mitsouko, L'Heure Bleue, First by Van Cleef & Arpels, Diva, Serge Lutens Chergui, Serge Lutens Fumerie Turque, Serge Lutens Rose de Nuit, Serge Lutens Sa Majesté La Rose,
Les Parums de Rosine (all), Habanita, Bois de Paradis, Penhaligon's Violetta, Shalimar parfum (I agree with those already mentioned but did not want to repeat)

I´ve found that oakmoss makes me think that some scents smell expensive. Mitsouko, Rochas Femme, Jolie Madame. Even Diorella, despite the mod appearance and the fresh citrus/melon top notes, evokes an image of spoiled teenage daughter in the seventies, skipping school to drive around in her car and waste her parents money on dolce vita

Many scents smell expensive in their perfume strenght.

I also agree about Feminité de Bois: it smells of wealth, even though it has that woody-woodsy naturalness.

Iris Nobile by Acqua di Parma smells expensive to me.
So do Sublime and Boucheron.

Don't know why. Just my feeling.

Jacques Fath pour Homme

Amazing rich smell

Nothing smells as expensive as wearing diamonds.

+1....
even the bad amouage smells expencive, i dont get it why!?? what kind of ingredients do they put in!? maybe frankincense?

vintage Shalimar doesnt smell expencive at all, but it can be really expencive )

Chanel Cuir de Russie smells so expencive, 31 Rue Cambon too!

Tuberose never smells expencive but sexy

Vanilla never smells expencive too....but some Iso super E does smell expencive

citruses rarely smell expencive...except Chanel Cologne!

Aldehydes usually smell expencive to me...but i dont favour them...anyhow everything that is sweet doesnt smell expencive to me ...money is bitter, smoky

Jean Patou's Sublime. To me, rich women smell like aldehydic florals, but there would also be something sparkling, alluring and overtly feminine about them. Sublime is the epitome of luxury.

Duck. Duck fat. Potatoes cooked in duck fat. Eat while wearing the Lutens/Sheldrake of your choice.
Chypres always smell of old money to me. Ma Griffe, surprisingly (vintage). Van Cleef's Gem. Old Diors.
Rich mahogany but don't know of any fragrance with that note
post #30 of 41
funny that it is likely that some of the most mainstream designer fragrances are likely to be the ones which are associated with a high cost or high value, however it's the niche scents - the obscure or hard to find, weird, rare and truly unique scents that can cost a kings ransom which would likely turn more noses away than it would please.

Such is life.

I vote for agar musk, as it smells rich, deep, unique and marvelous. It's my big money scent.
Mitsouko always smelled sort of grande dame bitchy to me.
Amouage. Money, money, money coming out of your ears.
