Finally found Kouros..

Thread Starter
At Perfumania outlet store in woodburn.
That and Jazz, Guerlain Vetiver, Xeryus Rouge, The Dreamer, and a few other things I can't remember but have been seeing so much of here.
Kouros, admittedly, smelled like a very cloying urinal cake.
Then again.. so did Xeryus Rouge.
And Jazz.
Even Armani Code. Which I love.

The cards the lady sprayed them on didn't touch eachother or mix or anything.. it was a hot day out. The only two that didn't smell cloying were AMen and Vetiver(which smelled nice at first, but turned into the urinal cake thing, though not so cloying).
I want to call it aromatic.. but I'm not sure. I KNOW that all those scents don't smell the same, and I want to believe that such a slick bottle doesn't produce such a boring scent(Kouros).
Is there something to the cards at Perfumania? Some design to the texture that brings out the heavier notes in a fragrance? What gives? Tell me Jazz doesn't smell exactly like Kouros.. arr, that makes me mad. I probably won't see them again for a long time.

Well, urinal cakes smell pretty good to me and to most other people for that matter. That's why they put them in urinals.

One of the most pointless exercises one can engage in is smelling scents on paper - as so many of them then smell just the way you describe. God gave us two good arms with fronts and backs - perfect for testing out 6 to 8 scents with sleeves rolled down, and another four or so with sleeves rolled up.

Not only do scents smell better this way, it helps improve one's powers of concentration (trying to remember which scent is which).

I don't get urinal cake from Kouros. I get more like... bus station men's room. It's one of those restrooms that's been, well, hosed down fairly thoroughly, and the custodial staff, rather than doing a proper job of scrubbing it with bleach, just swabs the urine over with stuff that smells pretty. So you get old urine with a layer of flowery smells over it. It's a much different smell from a urinal cake, which, as Renato quite correctly asserts, on its own, smells nice.

Kouros is one of those scents that needs a "walk-through" or a very diffused application onto skin... Then you get a really wonderful scent. A concentrated squirt onto paper will only show many fragrance's bad side.

After such ultra momentous build ups - it's not uncommon around here for the person involved to find the scent to be a bit of a fizzle when he finally tries it (this happened to me with a few niche scents).

I certainly hope that after this mega momentous build up in various threads over the last few weeks, Kouros doesn't turn out to be a squib for you.

I look forward to hearing your reaction.

I will PM you with my reaction. I don't have a huge build up of it since there are many many mixed reviews, however I am hoping to like it because of the positives I have heard. In my eyes they outweigh the negatives I have heard. Plus nothing I smell could ever smell worse than Pure Lavender from Azzaro.

Glad you are being open-minded about Kouros. I sprayed some on 12 hours ago and I can still smell it and love it. It's one of my all time favorites. It's so hard to judge a frag by a strip of paper. Good luck man.

Fine...if I must...

Haha you know I enjoy you very much and I will be happy to PM you my reaction

The only reason I say PM is because well, my posts haven't gone over well in that other Kouros thread. Will history repeat itself? Stay tuned and find out after the commercial break!

Well, that doesn't bode all that well for the Kouros outcome.
I just bought a big bottle of Pure Lavender to supplement my small bottle.
I think it's great - maybe it's another contender for that aqua regia business?

Hmm perhaps it is. But I don't think the quality is all that great. The whole Azzaro Pure line seems a bit trashy. The only thing people seem to like is Pure Vetiver. Kouros seems like it would have a lot better quality, I don't know why but it just does. Perhaps I should let Pure Lavender settle longer. Maybe I'll try that soon. Oh well.

To answer on the comparison to Jazz, they do not really smell similar, but they both have the old YSL mothball signature accord to them that I can't stand. Not a urinal smell, but not one that I personally would ever enjoy.

The only time I've been accused of wearing mothballs is with Hugo.

Renato,
Oh my. I'm sure we don't need to know with whom you were when you were accused of wearing mothballs.

It was just a woman in the office, who usually liked my scents, but instead she said "That's awful - smells just like napthalene flakes, like mothballs".
