American leather goods company Coach signed a deal with Lauder's BeautyBank division to produce fragrances and beauty products. The first step will be the the introduction next spring of a women's fragrance. It will be sold exclusively through the Coach website and in their stores.

Lauder's BeautyBank division specialises in beauty brands that aren't sold through traditional distribution systems. For example they created exclusively for Kohl's department stores in the USA the lines: American Beauty, Grassroots, Flirt, Goodskin and Dianoche by Daisy Fuentes. The Caoch deal is their first step outside of Kohl's, other deals will be added soon.

The first fragrance, set to launch in Spring 2007, will be the vision of Coach creative head Reed Krakoff. "I wanted to create a fragrance that embodies the many personalities of the Coach woman," commented Krakoff, President, Executive Creative Director of Coach. "Together with BeautyBank, we have developed a fragrance that is fresh and sophisticated."

I wonder why it took this long. Since one of their lower-end rivals (Coach) has a scent, and one of their higher-end rivals (Bottega Veneta) has long been rumored to be developing a scent, I suspect it's only a matter of time until we see Louis Vuitton's hopping on the bandwagon.
