newb looking for soft and romantic

I'm relatively new to the fragrance world and I could use some guiding points to find what im looking for.

I'd like to find a soft, romantic, gentle scent. Something that says "I want to lay on the couch and watch a movie with you" rather than something that's sex in a bottle. Something thats subtle, but noticable to the people directly around me. Nothing offensive or blatant. Just something that says romance. I can't seem to find anything that is up my alley.

I've heard that himalaya might be recommended for this style, but the price tag is a bit much right now.

I could use any and all help available. Thank you.

Welcome!
I'm thinking Habit Rouge might be right-on the money. It is velvety smooth rather than spicy-whack you in the nose type of sex appeal (i.e. Obsession). Luther Vandross, if you will.

Dior Homme
Burberry Brit
Tea for Two
Safran Troublant
Chergui

I'm not sure why, but Hanae Mori HM EdP just says 'comfort' to me.

I'll second Dior Homme.

I also think that JHL(Aramis) would do nicely. It's very comfortable and nice without being a smack-you-inna-nose powerhouse.

I think that the ultimate soft and romantic scent is Relax by Davidoff. Hard to get, but worth the effort to find it.

Welcome!
Very Irresitable by Givenchy came to mind. A very soft and pleasing scent.

Gendarme or Thierry Mugler Cologne would probably fit the bill.

Perhaps VS Very Sexy or Very Sexy 2?

Inexpensive, not a "heavy" frag, not overpowering sillage, and has the lasting power equal to at least (and not much more) the length of your typical movie

Try Burberry London. I sampled it tonight and it seemed quite comfortable and 'snuggly' and the same low projection and transparancy that others complain about I have a feeling might make it just the thing you are looking for when you say 'romantic and gentle'.

A lot of my suggestions are not weak in sillage but if you applied them lightly then I think you would get the desired effect: Chergui, Yang, L'Air du Desert Morocain, and Bois D'Argent. The only one of those that isn't expensive though is Yang.

Dior Homme

I'll also vote for Gendarme here. Soft and gentle, relaxed.

Chergui: not soft and gentle.

Nicole Miller for Men.

Thank you all so much for taking the time to give me some ideas. I'll definitely look into some of these.

Chanel Allure (the regular one, not the Sport)
Givenchy Pi
Rochas Man

I would say Tea for Two. While it is expensive, it's worth every penny. It is the only one EVERYONE unanimously enjoys on me and it is a light fragrance for sure.

I'll add Lolita Lempicka Au Masculin, it has a warm, fuzzy anise note that's made for cuddling up. Personally, I like Obsession, too, it's warm and sensual. I think if you go light, maybe just one or two sprays at most, it could be perfect.

Dior Homme

Dior Homme is an interesting choice, but I found that it doesn't wear well on me.

I've had really good luck with Creed's Original Santal... I've found that it has caused me to suffer through a few ripped shirts, but that's the reason they give you extra buttons...

Yea, Original Santal, even though its not one of my favorite Creeds, seems to get me lots of compliments, especially from women. That makes me want to keep it in rotation. I wonder what it contains...pheromones ?

I guess, Endymion by Penhaligon's is the frag you're looking for.

I'm telling you, I've had fantastic luck with it... I also agree that while its not my top favorite of the Creeds, its up there, more for them rather than me, but then again I'll go with what has worked time and time again.
