Newbie building a wardrobe by season

Here's my situation: I'm 24, just getting into wearing fragrances again. My first fragrance was Drakkar Noir, which was my girlfriend's favorite fragrance when I was 16 I bought some L'Eau de Issey for the summer, now I am looking for a more suitable fall fragrance. Right now, I have the means to buy a fragrance a season, basically. I'm looking for a general buying strategy to diversify my wardrobe.

What types of fragrances should I be looking for at this point? I dress mostly casual (jeans and t-shirt/polo, but with a more fitted "put together" look than that usually implies), though I dress it up a little when I go out at night, and I occasionally attend semi-formal/formal events (suit/tie and black tie). Since I already have a "lighter" scent that I like, should I go for a heavier, more masculine scent next?

If it helps, the Issey seems to last forever on me. I wake up the next morning and the fragrance still seems very potent. I have oily skin.

I might suggest a few for you.

Gucci pH
M7
Rive Gauche
Dzing!

Those are 4 that I think would suit you well.

Take a look.

I think Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche would work for you if you want an all purpose semi-formal/formal/casual fragrance. Something you can wear to dinner, or just wear watching the game. A sort of 'rugged' cleanliness, as in there still feels like something about it is dirty.

you're absolutely right about the need of a heavier scent for fall/winter season. Something that can give you a warmer feeling in the cold and that can suit the sensation of sweaters and scarves (you don't mention about the climate in which you live, but I don't think maybe you wear T-shirts only all year around...).
A heavier scent is also a good choice for more sophisticated looks. Here just two suggestions are (but there can be tons...):

Gucci Envy 4men for a designer scent
Frederic Malle Musc Ravageur for a niche scent

M7
Body Kouros
Eau Sauvage
Blue Jeans
Versace Man
Givenchy Greenergy (given your age)
