Casran or Live Jazz?

I'm stuck between these two fresh scents: Casran by Chopard and Live Jazz by YSL.

Which one would be a more *unique* scent? Which one would you prefer?

Thanks.

Fresh? You think Casran is fresh? I think these scents are polar opposites! Casran to me is a thick heavy gourmand oriental ala A*Men, whereas Live Jazz is a fresh citrus/herbal (and by FAR my favourite!)

Hmmm, I would go for Live Jazz but thats cause I find Casran nauseating.

I vote for Live Jazz!
(and wonder the same about Casran being fresh as CoL just did...)

Well...I was basing it off Nearfantastica's post in the thread "Suggest me a fresh scent".

It's as bad as A*Men?

Wow...I sampled A*Men once and I didn't like it.

Hmm...

Hmmm, I hate A*Men even more than Joop! Homme (which is saying something, lol).

To my nose, Casran is a close relative of A*Men. Live Jazz is an excellent scent and can be found at very good prices too! If your looking for a little different fresh scent I would highly recomend it!

The replies are correct; these two are as different as night and day and Casran is about as "fresh" as I am an astrophysicist.

That being said, it's one of the greatest fragrances ever. Buy it for colder weather and LJ is the epitome of a summer scent.

Thanks for the info, guys!

Looks like LJ it is!

Definitely -- CoL is right on the money in saying that Casran belongs to the gourmand and Oriental families, not the "fresh" one. I like Live Jazz, too, even much better than the original Jazz.

I like wear Casran. Casran for me is similar to D&G pour home and Platinium Egoiste.

Neither. Absolutely neither.

Comparing Casran to A*Men? Wow.. we must have very different noses. A*Men is a chocolate/patchouli based thick fragrance that I would only dare to wear in cold cold weather.... and Casran to my nose smells like freshly washed cherries with a bit of woods thrown into the mix... that I would pretty much wear any given day of the week.. during any weather...

I guess I'm not the only one who feels that it's a fresh fragrance, seeing as it has also received comparisons to Platinum Egoiste, within this very thread..

If you want sample vials of both the Casran and Live Jazz, PM me, and I'll send you them at no charge to you... that way you can determine before buying. Who knows how these frags will speak to you. Live Jazz is a favorite of mine, but not one I would buy without sampling.. it's sharpness or slight sourness is an acquired taste..

anyway...

Neither one works for me. Casran is too thick and heavy ... and Live Jazz is too "likeamillionothers" and "cologeny".

Agreed 100%. I adore Casran but would never think to wear it when I want "fresh".

Do you know any other "fresh" fragrance which has a (unusual) note of coriander mixed in with the other notes ?

This is one reason why I just enjoy my time here on these forums. People here are always helping out one another and someday, I hope, I will be able to return the favor.

Nearfantastica, I look foward on trying out these two scents.

I find it quite interesting to see one scent contrast greatly with different noses.

Once again, many thanks!!

Not really ... nor do I really care. I honestly think it's great that many people here on Basenotes (including you zz) can pick certain notes out of a fragrance and consider it "unique". But outside of Basenotes, I don't know anyone with a trained nose to be able to do that ... myself included. I can do the basic and common ones like sandalwood or amber, but that's about it. So to my nose ... and many I know outside of Basenotes ... Live Jazz is just too similar to many other frags to set it apart from them.

Besides ... if coriander is one of the notes ... maybe that's why I don't like it. I work in the produce industry and hate the smell of coriander. It has the same smell (to me) as a freshly smushed cicada bug.

I've been dying to try Casran lately and don't want to go for the blind buy. Anyone know where to test it out???
