What Frag(s) Literally Make You Sick? - Page 5

I had a soured bottle of Creed Green Valley that made my stomach twirl. It started out nice enough, but ended on a wet leather shoe note that was simply atrocious.

Too much Old Spice makes the tummy tremble. And Tea Rose by Perfumer's Workshop is beautiful, and I really enjoy its smell, but it gives me a headache after about an hour.

I have what I condider an irrational dislike for Luten's Miel de Bois. It doesn't smell healthy to me and I've tried two or three samples, all with my exact same violent reaction. I can't tolerate it's presence long enough to make me sick.

Chanel Allure Homme Sport Edition Blanche

Instant MASSIVE headache. Its a shame because it smells great but i can't wear it.

This one. I honestly feel sick just looking at the picture. I keep a sample like the one shown, in its box, in a drawer in the spare room and I swear I can still smell it when I go in there. I'm keeping it for practical joke purposes only.

When I smell the cap and top notes of chanel égoïste, don't know if it's bad memories related, but if I was about to vomit, I wouldn't want to smell égoïste in my case..
and salvator dali's pour homme makes me feel quite uncomfortable as well, the stuff is quite evil lol (but maybe the old bottle has gone bad though)

l'Eau de l'Issey... something in the drydown made me nauseous.

I forgot the worst of all - Dans Tes Bras by Fredric Malle. Total puke fest.

That's kind of funny actually, as I find Reflection to be the repulsive one from the Amouage line. Made my head hurt from it's excessive sweetness (literally).

Platinum Egoiste
Domenico Caraceni 1913

I quite like both of these scents but more times than not they make me nauseous. I was thinking it might be the geranium note they supposedly both share but others containing this note (Rive Gauche PH for one) don't have the same effect. Could it be a particular aromachemical they have in common?
It's funny that a post above mentions Domenico Caraceni 1913. That smells almost exactly like a funeral home mixed with a hospital. I hate it, and I could see it making someone sick.

The only one that has physically made me sick to my stomach, and it does every time I try it, is Michael Kors. The scent is good except for one note that turns my stomach. Terre de Hermes also has this note and nearly makes me sick too. But Michael Kors does it instantly.

Flower by Kenzo

And Daim Blond SL, OMG, that one smelled like a dead body to me... Though generally I like leather fragrances.
Most orientals of the loud saccharine sweet variety e.g. Ysl opium and balenciaga ph.
Gucci Nobile is one of my faves, but it gives me a headache. Damn! Well, time to take a toughen up pill and spray away. I won't be deterred...

Christian Dior: Fahrenheit (petroleum)
YSL: Body Kouros (Eucalyptus)
Blvgari : Black (rubber)

Blue Sugar by Aquolina and the eventual overapplication from whatever douchebag happens to be wearing Le Male.

I'm assuming that for a great majority of people responding that there is no chemical sensitivity involved, just a aversion to the smell of that particular frag. I have a hard time believing a frag can cause these kinds of negative reactions...

There are some fragrances that I believe I have a chemical sensitivity to when not applied very sparingly, it's a shame, because these I love the scent of: Rose 31, DC 1913, Ambre Sultan, Santal Imperiale.
Then there are some that I have this chemical sensitivity to and I can't stand the smell: All of the Montale fake aouds, especially Black Aoud.

Read a lot of reviews talking about how great it was.... got a 10ml sample and had to wash it off withing 2 minutes, cause it gave me a headache! I tried again 1 more time... same reaction. Needless to say i gave that decant away

Me too! And most of the Tauers, and of course Secretions Magnifiques. I imagine I would choke too if somebody next to me wore too much of DHI or some 80s powerhouse.

Mandarina Duck Man...I tried it once and something about the combination did not settle with me well, I was desperately trying to scrub it off.

Cool Water
Joop
Arabie
BLV Notte Pour Homme
To me, the common denominator that makes me physically sick is over-application.

  • Xeryus Rouge - powerful stuff, I can almost taste the scent
  • Rochas Man - really sweet when oversprayed
  • Chanel Egoiste - strong harsh opening

I like them all and wear them on a regular basis, but I always have to remind myself to be careful with the sprayer.

Anything by Boss --hateful outfit (except Baldessarini)

C&S Cuba. I tested it last week. How anyone can stand the dog shit note is quite beyond me *Shudder*

+1, there's something offputting I don't like.
I've trying Dzing! again today and I don't like it either.
Blue amber: quite rubbery with an almost insufferably syrupy quality
Black Oud, rancid and nasty synthetic.
Tom of finland: smell like Condom.
+1 Body Kouros (Eucalyptus): blame on post- work out??

Mont blanc legend. Smells like plastic bag
post #284 of 305
ELdO Vraie Blonde. For reasons that are mysterious to me, I wore this as my pre-shower scent today, knowing full well that it always makes me nauseated. I figured I'd give it another try (for about the twentieth time), but I got the predictable result.

Also, +1 to Silver Factory.
Carnal Flower: pay through the nose for a cloying and sticky smell of strong tuberose that becomes a bad Tropic sun tan oil. No thanks!

Unfortunately, Tobacco Vanille

Funny thread.

I bought Mugler Cologne because it smelled like Brylcreem. Unfortunately it gave me a headache and had to go.

I Love New York for Him by Bond No. 9 made me nauseous after just one spray on paper. I immediately threw the paper away. Unfortunately, the smell was still in my mind for quite some time. Can't imagine anyone liking that fragrance.

Givenchy Xeryus Rouge once made me sick the first time I wore it. From then on, I went easy on the trigger and didn't have anymore problems.
PS Fine Cologne - makes me feel queasy and it sticks around forever. Nothing else I've ever bugs effects me this way.
Abercrombie fierce and Hollister's cologne.

It's less the smell itself than a sort of Pavlovian conditioned response. Years of malls being flooded with the stuff + the general type of people associated with the smell makes me a little queasy.

Sex Appeal by Jovan makes me walk around with a really sour expression.

Apart from that, I quite enjoy difficult and off putting scents.
Testing it right now: beyond paradise Estee Lauder... awful stuff. I don't like this kind of scents, it has some marine floral thing going i've found in other horrid frags...
Cartier Declaration is the only fragrance I've ever scrubbed off. That cumin note in there was absolutely nauseating, made only worse by the fact I had to drive home from the mall I sprayed it on to home where I very quickly scrubbed it off

Platinum Egoiste is one of my favorites but the first 30 mins or so gives me a massive headache, not sure what it is about the topnotes that does this. It's the only fragrance I can think of that gives me a headache and it does so every time without fail

Also One Man Show has the worst topnotes of anything I've ever smelled
post #296 of 305
CSP Aoud de Nuit . . . not surprised it's discontinued

Same here as well, l'Eau d'Issey is an instant headache although I can appreciate the fragrance. Feu d'Issey is nauseating to me, I do not understand its cult status at all. While JPG's Le Male doesn't make me physicially, I get so "fatigued" smelling it I have to wash it off. Again, appreciate the genius of he scent, but can only take so much.
Nothing has ever made me physically sick , the perfume hater and I both took of that Diesel fist smell today and we both agreed that was a headache in a bottle

Found out that im allergic to Lubin Idole edp. My eyes start itching and burning like its pepper spray after a while.
