Montale Sandalsliver/Skin vs. Frederic Malle Musc Ravageur

Sandalsliver notes: Bergamot, the citrus fruit of Sicily, Mysore sandalwood, Florals, Vanilla

Musc Ravageur notes: Lavender, Bergamot, Clove, Cinnamon, Gaiac wood, Cedar, Sandalwood, Vanilla, Tonka,

I have been playing with a sample of Sandalsliver for some time now, and its hardly what I would call a sandalwood fragrance. However, it does smell very much like Musc Ravageur to me, with a similar citrus-musky accord. Sandalsliver seems to have sharper citrus notes, while Musc Ravageurs' musky vanilla drydown smells richer.

Anyone else notice similaries between the two ?

Thanks, ZZTOPP. I had a sample of the old Skin, a scent I understood was not terribly popular in the Montale line. I liked it quite well, but on me MR is quite different. MR takes on a cocoa accord that Skin did not, and isn't nearly as musky. I also find that MR, because of the lavender, is a bit metallic or "tinny" at times, before settling into that rich dankness.

Skin seemed brighter at first, nuder if you will, with more clarity. Perhaps more iridescent, while MR is opaque. I found that Skin wore truer to its notes than MR. MR sometimes leaves itself off at the top with me and then fades away into nothingness, whereas Skin was just that, a skin scent that stayed consistent throughout.

MR is also funkier, or having a tendency to funk itself up in the drydown, where it smells like a combination of cocoa powder and body secretions (to put it nicely). Skin didn't do that on me, but it also lacked the presence of the Malle.

You're right, Sandalsliver/Skin is certainly not a sandalwood scent.
