any pocket knife collectors here?

I am an avid collector since I was a kid. My dad got my started on the hobby. But I don't have all that many (roughly twelve) since I don't have a lot of disposable income. Case knives are my favorite. Just wondering if there are many other collectors reading this forum.
I don't really collect persay, but I have quite a few. I buy them to use though rather than for collection purposes. I'm a reservist and a good knife is invaluable when you're out in the field.

I think the best folders out there for a resonable price are Spyderco knives. I have a bunch. I love the lightweight handles with such an awesome grip and the blades are just rediculously sharp from the factory. When I first bought my Endura, I could hold a piece of paper, and then just take the knife and barely putting any pressure at all it would just glide through it.

Hi Jim: I use to collect some. I have a couple of handmade knives made by Zolan McCarty. He lived in Thomaston, GA where I visited his home and workshop. This was back in the '80s.

I have one of these Russell knives.

Holla!!

I love knives. I know a bit about knives and their composition of steel and handles. There are some amazing knives out there.

The two I carry are:
Spider Co - Manix (S30-V steel, Lock back locking mechanism, G-10 Handle, 3.75in blade)
CRKT - M16 (Aus 6 steel, combo edge, linear lock)

I'm not a collector but i do however have a few, i.e. Case, Old Timer, Buck, and several other's. I'm always in search of the Perfect "pocket man's knife". I know that sometimes I visit A.G. Russell online and check out there clearance section. As of late I've also picked up a few camping/hunting knives from Big "5" sporting goods. There knives are always on sale and at least 45% off retail. Especially when it's new old stock.

Great, it's fun to hear about everyone's collection and places to look for knives. Thanks for the replies so far, everyone.

I've got a love for French Opinel folding knives. I think I've picked up a half dozen in different sizes, the largest being 15 or 16 cm.

I was watching Humphrey Bogart in The Maltese Falcon last weekend and in it he pulls a small folding knife out of his suit pocket when he needs to cut open a package. Pretty cool, I thought, can't have one of those in your pockets these days. Here in Washington, DC, at least. Life here is constantly in and out of metal detectors. I've had to explain the metal clip part on my clip board to a security officer once even. Were I to leave an 8 cm size Opinel in my sac by accident I'd surely have to explain it to some security moron who wants to look like he's/she's not missing a trick, boss.

Looked pretty handy for Bogart though. He also threw a glass of whiskey into tray of empty glasses and the whiskey decanter too. That was cool too.

Damascus is damn expensive metal my friend. That is a fine knife.

I've always had a fascination for knives, but I guess every boy, man or other member of the masculine gender has

The strange thing however is that I have never bought one single knife in my entire life...

I'm intrigued by the Damascus; what is it good for? Does it stay sharp eternally or something like that... like a Hatori Hanso sword

I don't really collect knives either but rather buy them for use.

I like Buck knives because I can get them relatively cheap. I carry a Buck 110 whenever I'm in the outdoors. Paid roughly 40$CAN for it which is a pretty good deal - came with a diamond sharpener too.

Got a Buck 55 (the smaller version of the 110) too and I carry that around all the time for just general use.

I'm in loooooooooove with Benchmades. I haven't got one yet cuz I don't have $200US+ for one but in the future, when I do have the cash, I'll surely get one.

I especially like the Benchmade 806AFCK (Advanced Fighting Combat Knife). It was made in collaboration with Spyderco (It has the Spyderco hole in the blade for one handed opening). But it's discontinued so I'm thinking that I should get my hands on one while I have the chance (I think it's still available on a couple online dealers - though the number is getting smaller and smaller).

Benchmade's are probably the nicest pocket knives I've ever handled (at the store). The AXIS lock is amazing and the knives themselves are sooooooooooooooooooo smooth when opening or closing - I think they're on bearings? not sure. But they are sooooo smooth. You really don't need a thumb nub or anything. You just disengage the lock and the blade pretty much swings free so you give it a small whip and it opens and locks on its own. Very, very high quality.

I'm not sure I'm a proper collector, but I've got a few...

I'd break mine into three classifications:
1) kitchen knives
2) pocketknives
3) neato knives

in the kitchen I have some Wusthof-Trident and Henckels (Solingen, Germany) pieces, I also have a nice piece of Green Mountain (Oregon, USA) steel in a Japanese-style cleaver (the light kind for prep-work, not the chicken-chopper)

in pocketknives, I've had two Spydercos and am on my third. I also have a decent Gerber folder, a German lever-switchblade and my latest score: a traditional three-blade Henckels pocketknife. In the USA, at least, Henckels pocketknives are a bit uncommon.

Neato knives: I think the only one of these I've actually used is my tanto (cutting down cardboard boxes for recycling runs). I've also got a Gerber Applegate-Fairbairn (sp?) that I had to put the second edge on myself. Also in Gerber I have a Mark-II which is nothing other than a killing knife (although I didn't opt for the black, nonreflective blade coating). Some may remember the Tekna, a Japanese double-edge knife that is just one piece of steel (and I don't mean just full tang, I mean it's just a piece of steel, no plastic, rubber, horn, etc etc). I've got some divers knives and a few stillettos, but nothing of great name or style, just decent steel.

On the horizon, I will need to get a fillet knife and I have some serious knife-lust for some better-quality Japanese steel (it gets very expensive, very quick).

I don't collect, but I have a cold steel pro-lite tanto blade folder thats my pet carry blade. It's all black with a serrated edge that'll slice through a 1" thick sissel rope like it was butter and has a lighting-fast one hand open. .

I'd be lost without it.
I've started a very small collection, to which I hope to add a piece or two.

Always on me is my folding 110 buck. I keep it sharper than Steven Hawking.

My grandmother got me a Buck Zipper this Christmas, and my father got me a Gentleman's Hunting Knife by A.G. Russell. (Here's lookin' at you ligntinrod).

Not pocket knives, but back in the seventies I collected full tang knives, and when I stopped I saved several. I have a A.G. Russell, Morseth, and a couple Randalls left.
I always carry a Gerber Paraframe II. It's not THAT sharp, but it always does the trick for what I need.
I have a nice collection of knives - ranging from Bucks to a V-42. I also bought a couple knives from a shop in Thiers in France the last time I was there. They are quite nice and some shops sell some really great things! I plan to go again this year and get a couple more (the kind that have the wine bottle cork-screw folded into the hilt!)
Not exactly a collector's item at this time, but it's great for close quarter combat and opening bank statements

My dad gave me a Buck 503 for Christmas, at least I think that is the model it is. Like I said at the start of this thread, I mainly carry Case knives but this Buck is a really nice one.

I'm banned for life on bladeforums

I used to buy Zombie Killers from Himalayan Imports and hang out in their forum (bunch of hillbillies myself included) except for the Nepalese owner who always had fantastic deals on specials, blems, one of a kinds, but where I offended someone was not there but out in the open forum. I took offense to some grinning Baboon posing in the White House with a Republican. I went way overboard.
--------------------------------------
I have a small Opinel,
a Spyderco D'Allara named for a NYC policeman who died on 9/11. He possesed almost every knife the company has ever made, and was active on their bulletin board.
a Spyderco Manix, user
a Benchmade 710 in D2 which is a user and in M2HS which is not.
a Swamp Rat folder I believe is called a Rat Trap.
a Microtech Vector Auto
and a bunch of Spyderco's I need to look up their names. A few Emersons and a few Benchmades that are long out of production.

I much prefer straight knives and have given as gifts a few Busse's and Swamp Rats in the last few years.
a Limited Edition Scrapyard knife which is a spinoff from Busse.
a Swamp Rat Ratweiler with camo hard sheath
an EK from Effingham
And a Sog Tomcat in Cocobolo wood - full size
I traded the small Sog Tomcat in Cocobolo wood to a Basenoter a while back.

there are more but now I'm tired and I have to put these back.

I've got a bit of a collection that I have managed to hang to for the moment. My wife lost her job this summer, and while I've taken on a second position to augment our income, I've had to sell much of my collection to pay the bills. I still have a few Schatt & Morgan slip joints left though.

Well, I wasn't a collector... until one day I realised I had a collection!

H&K Tumult, Kershaw 1760, Microtech Ultratech D/E, Microtech UTX-70 D/E, Microtech Daytona S/E, Kershaw 1660VIB, Kershaw 1630BLKST, SOG SOG-TAC, two Benchmade 906s, Cold Steel Recon 1, Cold Steel Pocket Bushman and a Cold Steel AK-47 (G10 scale).

They sorta sneak up on you. I have to say that Kershaw makes a damn fine knife for not a lot of money and that the hype is right on when it comes to Microtechs -- they are worth every cent.

Big fan of Emerson Knives and, of course, Microtech. Hella expensive though.

Jason Brous is coming up too, he has some great functional and beautiful knives, plus he is a military guy and all his work is made in the USA.

Love Ka-Bar too bc our military uses and used Ka-Bars, plus they are a good price and very very functional. Love em. Good call Silverbullet.

The Blur is a great knife.. Let's see some pics guys

I have a huge tendency to over-collect (and over indulge) in knives, flashlights, gadgets and ....perfume, of course.

Here is my personal, current, favorite from my collection...

I would like to begin knife collecting, as if I need to spend the money, and would like to know what internet sights are recommended for obtaining quality with decent pricing. Thank you.

That is an unusual one, what is it??
