Help..looking for real nice light scent that isnt....

Thread Starter
I am looking for a really nice light scent that I can wear for all occasions. I would like something that is not offensive or overpowering or cloying, no Le Male types or ADG types or Rive Gauche. There has to be a few scents that out there that arent of the aquatic/lemony base or the sweet vanilla/chocolate base.

I have tried the clean scents...TM Cologne, Gendrame, Bulgari, etc. and still havent found something yet.

Any suggestions?

H'm. How about water?

Just kidding.

Have you smelled Cool Water? I'm surprised you didn't think much of Mugler Cologne! It should have been right up your alley ("real nice light").

Good luck.

Well, it's gotten some "thumbs down" reviews here lately but I think Geir would fit your wants.

Loewe Solo. Versatile, non-offensive, hard-to-hate, non-sweet, clean, modern.
It's on the expensive side, but I think you ought to try FM's Angelique Sous La Pluie (Jean Claude Ellena).
Hmm.. Yes, Geir maybe. Kouros Cologne Sport is a decent nonobtrusive frag, too.

Your requirements for a scent rule out pretty much everything. It sounds like you should just pick a scent that you like, and wear just a small amount of it. The frags that aren't citrusy/clean/tea tend to be strong almost by definition.

Ah, I just thought of something: Tam Dao by Diptyque might be a safe bet.

Good luck-

This one suffers from extremely poor longevity - better to go for Hermes Eau Des Merveilles or Terre D'Hermes instead, which are more interesting compositions.

And I agree with G'Doubt - nice and light can't usually be done without a citrus note.

Eitherways, I recommend the following:

Chanel Allure
MPG Fraicheur Muskissime
Trumper GFT
Creed Bois De Cedrat
Creed Himalaya
Paco Rabanne XS pour homme
Gendarme Grabazzi

I feel that Bulgari's Eau Parfumée au Thé Blanc (White Tea) is a beautiful, soft skin scent that features the house tea note underscored by a very nice white musk note.

My other suggestion, among many, would be Spazio Krizia Uomo. This is a beautiful herbal cologne-type scent in a classic Italian style. Though this one contains lemon, it is the beautifully blended herbal components that have my admiration. See here for the post and thread that I noted this, and that might prove helpful to you >> http://community.basenotes.net/showt...zio#post932282

Please tell us when you've settled on something!

I agree with Jeff.

In fact, it's funny because I was actually just beginning to recommend The Blanc when I read Jeff's recommendation. I, too, think it might be just right.

The Rouge is also nice, but a little stronger (not in longevity, but perhaps in sillage).

I too am surprised you didn't like TM Cologne!! That's one of my favorite light scents ever. You might try Azzaro Chrome or Clinique Happy.

Crown Perfumery Eau de Quinine
Crown Perfumery Town & Country
Gres Quiproquo
Arran Aromatics After The Rain

I'll second Tam Dao, with the caveat that you may find it heavy or cloying if you don't like woody scents or sandalwood in general. It's among the lightest of the sandalwoods I believe. Others may be able to confirm this. I have only sampled two santals.

Another choice is Rochas Lui, a very light wood. It's not much in the longevity department though. It's inexpensive online.

I can't rememeber if you mentioned Bvlgari PH. It's light on the drydown, but HELL getting there!

*edit* Another suggestion is Cuiron. It's a light and masculine leather scent with low sillage and high longevity.

I saw that you did, in fact, try Bvlgari. Did you try all of them? I'm specifically thinking of Bvlgari Blu, but have not tried it myself.

Bulgari Extreme might fit...give it a test.

Cheers!

I find Tam Dao to be anything but light and clean - perhaps Philosykos might be a better recommendation ?
For you I would suggest Silver Mountain Water.

M7 Fresh maybe?

Ooo! Ooo! I have the answer!
CDG Vettiveru.
Trust me.

I think any of 4 Creed's would work (SMW, Himalaya, GIT or MI). I like L'Artisan's Tea for Two. It's somewhat smokey, but not at all offensive, overpowering or cloying.

Sandalwood by Trumpers may work. Also second Terre D' Hermes.

Divine L'Homme de Coeur

Take a look at Versace Metal Jeans, one of my personal favorites, it just doesn't project at all. Longevity isn't good, but you DO want a light fragrance, and I have yet to find one that lasts more than four hours. Enjoy!

Gaultier 2 is nice and pretty light with almost no sillage at all.

Yeah, you're right ZZ... Dao's a bit dirty, come to think of it, but I still love it!

Eau Egyptienne by Spa Cinq Mondes could be a good pick : a very very light, spicy scent that just surrounds you with a discreet aura of modernity (you can purchase it through their website : http://boutique.cinqmondes.com/e_com....cfm?cat_id=11)

White by Emporio Armani is one citrusy/musk fragrance I very much enjoyed wearing for its freshness and easy-going style, and Armani Eau pour Homme is another good choice in a more woody direction.

I also regard Angéliques Sous la Pluie by Frédéric Malle as a wonderful fragrance for all purposes, in a rather unconventional way. But I would still go for Eau Egyptienne before anything else !

PS : I forgot to mention Parfums de Nicolaï's New York, one we have been discussing here recently, and which might be just perfect for what you seem to be looking for...

Ralph Lauren's Purple Label, clean and spicy but doesn't shout.

Heeley's Cedre, clean and woody, but not sharp like Terre D'Hermes.

Jeff's suggestion for Spazio Krizia Uomo is superb, as usual, but the fragrance is becoming exceedingly difficult to find. The suggestion by another Basenoter for CDG's Vettiverru is spot on as well, and it can be purchased more readily these days.

I've been curious about this but hasn't taken the plunge because of the cumin note. How is the strength of this note? I try avoiding fragrances with this note.

Well if you really hate cumin, maybe you should keep refraining yourself, but it is not an overwhelming slap of cumin in your face either so...

Avatar by Coty.

It's very light and affordable ($10) plus the reviews seem to indicate it might be what you're looking for: http://www.basenotes.net/ID26120146.html

Also check out Costes by Costes... spicy, cinnamon, warm... kinda light.

many people have scents for different occasions (day, night, club, suit, date) so an "all occasions" scent probably means something inoffensive and very safe.

Safe but pleasant includes Chrome, as someone mentioned, and Aqua di Gio, which is the epitome of safe and pleasant.
My top two picks have already been mentioned, Divine's L'Homme de Coeur and Silver Mountain Water. Please do test these two. SMW might be kind of sweet to your tastes, but still clean and fresh.
