BN Crushes & Frag Buddies - Share the Love

I do hope this post is not going to cause offence - but what the heck!

Basenotes has truly become a home away from home for me, with a wonderful international cosmopolitan community of fabulous individuals who all share my number one love - fragrance!

I run the whole gamut of emotions (excitement, laughter, tears, sorrow, anger, etc) everyday as I share in the fragrant trials and tribulations of my fellow basenote members around the globe. I send out a sincere thank y ou to all of you who work and help to make this such a welcoming, caring sanctuary for all.

In spending so much time here I have found that I have developed 'attachments' to a few members who truly seem to 'get' me (my heartfelt values, hopes and my weird sense of humour) - I imagine that we would get on very well in the real world (if we were neighbours / work colleagues) and would probably end up 'Frag Buddies', going for frequent fun mini sniffas together and terrorising the local department store perfume counters...

So who are your Basenotes Frag Buddies? Those witty entertaining souls whose perfume opinions you value more than most and believe would be great partners in crime?

A few that come immediately to mind for me are: MysteryFemme and Heliamphora who are both pals from the old country (MUA) but also Quarry, sherrie11,Twolf, Taolady and djuna. Ladies - your friendship, humour, wisdom and support is so valued. There are more who I am still getting to know but who, I hope / believe, will be fun, fragrant friends of the future.

Now, I have an embarrassing confession to make...

Along with some great virtual Frag Buddies, I have also developed some embarrassing virtual crushes. These have been fanned by the brilliant Member's Photo threads here in this Off Topic forum. You people are beautiful!

I have quite a few crushes but my biggest by far has to be for Mr Basenotes Admin himself - Grant! He's such a sweetie! And so young! Not only does he provide us lost souls with a fragrant sanctuary where we can dwell in peace and safety with our own kind...but he is also cool enough to have Estee Lauder Youth Dew as his wardrobe icon (this was my beloved Grandfather's signature and I have never seen or heard another man admit / show that he likes this classic). And to do all this at such a young age... I know I am probably old enough to be viewed as his legal guardian but...*swoon*

Don't worry I shall not embarrass myself by even looking his way but it had to be said. I shall just adore from afar... I am pretty sure I am not the only one.

So come one - don't leave me to suffer this alone, we're all friends here. Aren't we? Aren't we??

Awe, I'm all embarrased now!

CHanged my icon earlier today - Now Tom Ford - but I do have a sneaking regards for YD!

I'm fond of many, all the woman who share their lives and honor me with a chance to know them. Quarry is a big standout for me (throws Southern air kisses to Wisconsin) since I connected with her first over my Stella blind buy personal catastrope. She wears jeans and tennis shoes everywhere like me, and she like plants and the environment like me. A piquant mix of kind and ornery, any fragrance I hate, I can count on her loving.

musse is another sweet lovey. From what I gather, we keep house identically and with matching enthusiasm (not much.) I feel we have similiar personalities.

And then Tovah, and Twolf, and tinker and tdi, and tiff, God bless her, tiff! and tigs, and others too, that I'm just starting to know. I just find people interesting and admirable.

Wow, I have a thing for T-people.

As for crushes, I lost touch with the boys in the band since the chat is so cumbersome, but I think it's still safe to say Mag the Magnifiscent would be my first choice, youngster that he is. DustB.....maybe.....and Rich, from our old chat times, and OO brings good memories as well. I want to adopt Pigeon, so that's not a crush, but I love him.

Hey, Quarry! Can you make posters of that tango picture?????

P.S. Seriously, can you?

I have to edit in shadesofblue!!! My blue buddy! Especially since everytime I see a pretty blue thing, I think of her!
My fragrance playmates are:

Keyescrib, who became my friend outside of Basenotes I would be lost without her!

Musse (my neck in neck blind buy partner)

Vinterdroppe

Goddess_Dreams

Twolf

Tovah

Purplebird7

Shycat

rtamara41

And last but not least, Coconut

Thank you all... my dear sweet scented friends!

Ah, Moondeva, a question difficult and easy to answer Layering again, dearie?

After three months being here I feel privileged, having met so many 'beautiful minds'. But, it is too short a time to call everybody a 'friend' yet.

Friends are so precious, special, even something rare. Many of you I would like to know better, and maybe I will. Just give me time. I like you for your mind, your sense of humour, the steady hand in the back when the going gets tough for somebody.

I suppose I will have to mention some persons, eh?

First and most of all my love to Paschat (from MUA), coming here to chat with me under her new name Kingcobra. My dearest friend and inspiration for almost three years now.

Taolady, redgolden Dragon with razorsharp wit and humour
Lady In Black, gentle and wise like the Unicorn she loves
Coconut, the 'happy one', my dear friend already and how I would love to speak to you more often.
Lievje, strong and almost invincible.

Quarry and Twolf with their kind hearts, not yet friends, but already close enough to say: I like you very much.
Naughty and funny Shycat and Rtamara, determined Moondeva, all those enthusiatic members joining in the Lutens Week.

And the men? BrothaG with his humour, a gentleman in heart and soul. A joy to exchange your thoughts with him.
Not to forget Magnifiscent! Great conversations in the chatroom. He is such a lovely man.

And I discover I am leaving too many of you out

Ah, this is not a voting of 'best loved member', you know.
Let's say: I can't think of any of you that I dislike. Will that be enough to build friendships when time passes and I will have been here for a long, long time?

to all of you, sweet smelling lovelies.

There are soo many wonderful people here that I´d like to get to know better in the future via swaps etc, but I want to mention four that I really look upon as my friends: Shycat, Twolf, tinker424 and Quarry. Love you!

Oops; forgot the men! stuigi (my first swap mate), PigeonMurderer (feels like my little brother). Love you, too!
As for the buddies, it is evident: love musse, Vinterdroppe, tinker, Quarry, Goddess_Dreams, Taolady, Shycat, lilybp, Lady_in_Black, Flathorn, Socalwoman, helg, tiff, shadesofbleu, Tovah, Audrey, and miss FuFu, Ladylonestar and levannah. I am getting to know many new gals, and what a nice bunch with fabulous tastes we are!

My obvious crushes are: liquid, docluv45, Lightninrod, Marls, Concord and Indie_Guy. Mag is another story -- he is my long lost twin brother! I also have a hidden crush on castorpollux.
This is a really original thread! Actually, I've become friendly with more and more people lately.

DustB, a very intelligent and open-minded person.
Riannon, a lady of quality, humour and generosity!
Magnifiscent, a great guy to talk to. Very friendly and knows his frags.
GenuineImitationlife, really nice guy.
Scentemental, practically a walking fragrance-library. He knows a lot and is very helpful and intelligent.

I'm sure I've forgot to mention a few, but nearly everyone's nice around here!
"Crushes?" Oh 'hael' yes! The other forums(Bass fishing, F150 Lightnings, and cigars) I frequent have a few women on them but NONE I've seen come close to the lovely Ladies found here at BN. There is just something very sensual about discussing fragrances with women .

My crushes are found using the beautiful screen names of: Gray Swan, Twolf, Vivienleigh, Shadesofbleu, CologneJunkie, Shycat, TDDanae, Buffalo Gals, tigrushka, rtamara41, moondeva, linnea, Quarry, Ayala, and purplebird7.

I have several 'guy' friends here; many from multiple fragrance-swapping episodes but no "crushes" there .

if my "crushes" were based on sheer kindness and generosity among basenotes users.. my targets for "amor" would certainly be:

rach2jlc (the most even-minded, respectful guy on the boards)
Thrax (Jesse, who has been trying to sell me his Wang for days now)
marczilla (a sincere gentleman with a great intellect to boot)
Joel_Cairo (has a way with words in reviews that put mine to complete shame)
Tdem (Terry, tosses me decants and samples like they are candy)
Coconut ( Chris, sweetness and consideration personified)
Francois (of course, my canuck buddy)
Costello ( Christian, has without a doubt has been my basenotes equivalent of Santa Clause.. who new that Santa was German? )

I'm sure there are more.. but these are the people that really floored me with their general character and selflessness on the board... I applaud you all and hope you know how much I appreciate your actions!

sincerely,

a.

I used to have a crush on Veronica! Such a great sense of humor.
Where to start?

Col - Cooler than the other side of the pillow. MASSIVE fragrance wardrobe. One of the most generous people I've ever had the pleasure of coming across. A true friend.

Nearfantastica - Anthony really wants my "wang" but still refuses to take it ....so far.

Coconut - A most lovely lady and a generous one as that. Could be a basenotes crush

Marczilla - A good ol' boy. Even if he does like Jicky.

Magnifiscent - A gentleman unlike any other. Old school as hell.

Shifts - I dig the music he digs. Our tastes differ a bit, but I still dig him.

Stuigi - Bet you didnt expect to see yourself on this list did ya? Stu is the dude that sits in the dark corner by his self and usualy only talks unless you ask him a question. Always provides help, and usualy has some damn good stuff for sale.

MobyV - He don't log in as much as he used to be we still talk on MSN Messenger. Always a dude-imus coolus.

If I missed anyone, sorry. Mad props to ya!

Oh, and if any of you other punks ever feel like chattin on the MSN Messenger, go ahead and add me. jack_rabbit_slim13@hotmail.com

Hee! What a cute thread. I approve.

This board seems to have some of the sweetest, kindest people around! And there are SO many folks who just have a lyrical way with words. I don't know many of you, but I enjoy reading all the well-thought-out posts...and thank you guys so much for posting in my getting-dumped thread.

Much love to everyone on Basenotes!

This was a sweet thought and so typical of you, Moon Goddess! And so typical of my BB Hawk Riannon to have pointed it out to me!

R introduced herself to me by answering an unanswed question in one of my posts and has become the dearest of companions. Like you Moondeva.

And there's Quarry,TWolf, LIB, Socal and BuffaloGals and Scentimental Purplebird7 and JoelCairo and Lightnin'rod and Minty and Mochi and Rebecca and Paisley...and that's in just four months.:bounce:

Like you Moondeva I rush to the computer first thing in the ayem and check in with my BN buddies before ever even the e-mail! Or the online NYT!! (After all, first things first!)

SO grateful to Grant and all you guys...(snuffles awkwardly, shuffles off stage left...)

Oh, Taolady! Now you got me welling up too... *sniff, sniff*

You frequently make my day with your crazy sunshine and humour - I know I have startled the wildlife (animals and neighbours) with my guffawing out loud apparently in a silent house all alone!

I do hope we continue to enjoy each other - even though we are oceans apart.

Such a lovely idea, ((moondeva))
I am relatively new to this board, would love so much to be able to post and read more, but so many things to do and so little time and if you add that nature has graced me with a rather shy, reserved character ... Anyhooo, I found so many witty, fun, knowing, generous angels among you that I'm feeling at home now whenever I log in
My heart goes especially out to
Twolf, who is a poet and a great lady
to Riannon, the whirlwind who is exactly my opposite, and opposites attract (love u, Lady of Shalott)
to Taolady, who loves labyrinths and ensures lots of fun with her posts
to Malena, who doesn't post too much but whom I know from my previous board (you're a sweetie, girl)
to lilybp, for the fun we share in solving twolf's melon scratchers
and I hope to get to know better rtamara, ComDiva, Coconut, moondeva, magnifiscent, linnea and many many others,
Crushes??? None so far, but if nearfantastica's avatar is him....swoon!
Yes... the avatar is me... and not a picture of a poor chap that somehow missed evolution

Thank you very much for the compliment!

well, seeing as I've only been here a short time, I haven't really gotten to know too many people yet - there are a LOT of people who are always being helpful and answering people's questions...I am really learning a lot from being a member here, and that's thanks to all you guys & gals who contribute to this fantastic forum.
I hope to get to know a lot of you this year, as well as learning more about the wonderful world of fragrance!
Moondeva, this is best idea ever!
This is a brilliant opportunity to share with the world my own heartfelt feelings towards my favourite basenoters...

In no particular order, I would like to give my virtual hugs and kisses to the following smelly friends.

Riannon - She is my mentor, my very first Dutch friend, a comedian (I love her wicked sense of humour). I certainly would have a crush on her if Riannon is a guy.
{a small editing here, cos I truly like Riannon whether no matter which gender she is, I would definately ask her out for a date at the wine bar}

HackerX - David is a very generous fella with a big heart. He is strong and determined. We have a lot in common (Asian background, similar wavelength, love Egoiste Platinum to death, enjoys Chinese music and pop culture). I like him a lot. A possible crush but he is not available.

nearfantastica - Anth is not only good looking but he writes beautifully and he would spend hours listening to my whinges, he is a sweetheart... (Anth is another possible crush but he lives too far)
Magnifiscent - Ermy is resouceful and very knowledgeable. He can dance and he knows how to cook. I will definately visit him next time if I travel to Milan. Damn, I want his secret risotto recipe!
Aubrgene - He has exquiste taste, he is a very warm and caring person... he keeps reminding me excerise is very important for me to stay in shape.
Tdem1961 - Terry introduced decanting and swapping to me. She is very generous and a lovely lady. (I haven't seen her posting lately, I wonder where she is)
{I got a message from her, she is safe!}
Thrax - cheeky but lovely to deal with... (I am blushing when you openly tell everyone that I am your possible crush, boy, that is a huge age gap)!
Shadesofblue - Very caring lady who would remind me to take care and be safe. (I wish to chat with you more often)
Lievje - Another lovely Dutch lady
Tinker424 - She is a sweetie who secretly sent me samples that appeared on my wishlist. By looking at her posts, she is probably one of the best bargain hunters around.
Nima - I didn't forget about you. You have an inquisitive mind, I adore your words and on my must visit list when I come to Canada.

There are others which I would like to include and whom I would love to get to know more:
Taolady, Moondeva, Quarry, rtamara41, Shycat, Lady_in_Black, Mochi, Paisley, Twolf and many others...

* Perhaps we should organise a basenoters reunion someday and someone could think of a host country for a perfume feast.

Happy Sniffing

Chris aka Coconut

I've been debating whether or not to post in this thread or not...I guess I'll do it.

First of all, I have so many people I consider friends here that I won't name them all in fear of missing a few.

Second of all.....can lesbians have man-crushes? You know, that term that straight guys use to define their affection toward other dudes? I think I have a couple of those...Indy_Guy and PigeonMurderer.

Third...yes, I do have a couple female crushes on the board...but I'll plead the fifth as to not make anyone uncomfortable .
Hell yes lesbians can have platonic man-crushes, just like straight guys can have platonic crushes on other fellas. Plus, I'm straight but I totally have a crush on you, CJ!

I would think that at some point we've all had some sort of platonic crush on a member of the same sex. Attraction to the character.. the charisma or the general "alpha male" power model (whatever turns your crank)... someone of the same gender you desire to be around, that you catch yourself thinking about... that you want to impress.. all without that burning desire to to go "downtown" with them....

others may have different interpretations.. but I believe this is what was being discussed...

One of the characters from a webcomic (www.pvponline.com) had a crush on David Duchovny. It's similar to the one that Jason Alexander's character had on Seinfeld. My ex fiance had a total man-crush on his sensei at a muay thai academy. It's very common.

A platonic man-crush is where a hetero guy has a non-homosexual "thing" for another guy. He doesn't want to get intimate with the guy, but he just has a crush on him.

And may I add: I don't think there is anything wrong with having a platonic crush on a person of the same sex. My DH had a crush on one of his friends and I liked this friend even more for that fact.
And I have a huge crush on Charlotte Rampling.
So what? Love is not the same as sex!! Why should and could we not love who we want, unhindered by prejudice?

Wow thank you so much for the mention Twolf! I also like you a lot i have to say.
As for any crushes, i really don't have any, i mean, even in real life i don't get crushes, don't know why, i guess it's more of a whole mental and body experience and i just don't have the time.
I have to mention that both Shifts and Scenteur7(now perfumecritic i guess) might just be my frag "brothers" we have a lot in common (not everything of course, but enough).
Since this is a "share the Love" thread i have to say that i really appreciate everyone's opinions both good and bad because it makes things very colorful and more interesting. And i do read all of your reviews (it's taking me a while though ).
I specially like the people who jump from forum to forum here and keep an open mind.
Of course major Props to Bnotes founder, Grant, for giving us the chance to say the things that matter to us, for all of his work and for making the world smell just a bit better.

cheers!

awww how sweet to see that I have been mentioned by a few here. thanks so much!

I hate to mention names, because I don't want to leave anyone out. There are so many kind and generous people on this board. I truly enjoy chatting and exchanging PM's with each and every one. And many others who I have not had personal communication with, but SO love reading their posts.

I do have to admit though ... I have crushes all the time on the men who wear Jaipur Homme as their SOTD.

Well the perfect example, imo is in Anne of Green Gables when Anne inadvertently gets her best bosom buddy friend, Diana, intoxicated with Aunt Marilla's rasberry cordial. Diana's mother forbids them to see one another and there is this scene where they steal one last secret goodbye. Anne asks Diana for a lock of her hair , which she will keep close to her and treasure always.
All men and women should be so graced as to have such an affection for another, whether it be man , woman, dog or rabbit!!

But then I don't have to tell YOU GUYS that - I have a crush on ALL of you!
(I am too shy to name people, I am afraid to leave someone out...
oh shucks, tinker424, you know how your kindness has really touched my heart! Indeed, even my kids and extended family! Djuna, you got me from the moment you mentioned anais nin and are a fun swapping buddy! Mr Good Life, you introduced me to two of my Caron loves, how could I ever forget that!
Linnea, I feel a kinship with you from down here in the lower forty eight! Your avatar reminds me of this rescue hero doll that my daughter has with an eagle on its arm. How fitting for a fire fighter. Hey, you , me and CJ, (wink!wink!)
Moondeva, Riannon, Quarry, my Layering Mentors who make me laugh and enlighten me...
Scentsibility, I enjoyed your posting on my art thread...and how you shared with us about your home....that was sweet.
Pluran, I will forever associate you with my first Opium experiences.
Lightnin Rod - that's a mighty big fish! ahem!
Lady in Black, I enjoy your thoughtful posts and LOVE that avatar!
Twolf, TDanae, Shycat, Pellen, Coconut....oh dear on goes the list....
Buffalo Gals and Pepperpatty, you KNOW I love you.
Ayala I would like to get to know better, I love her detailed reviews.
see? I can't name everyone all at once. This thread may require multiple postings.

I love crushes too! I think they are fun ... and it is very flattering to be the object of a crush (of any persuasion!)

Some of my famous people crushes are unexplainable ... as are some of my real-life crushes. On-line crushes are a fairly new experience to me, but still a lot of fun!

No man-crushes yet, but if CJ was straight and I was single...

*edit* THAT's a pretty safe crush, yes?

Hehe, I want to be CJ's next man-crush... (pick me, pick me!) :bounce:

Your new sig makes me think of "Destiny" by Zero 7. Ever heard it? I love that song! In fact, the whole "Simple Things" CD is amazing... Lately it's become my groovin' low-speed elliptical workout selection... It seems too slow and mellow for workout music, but on an elliptical you can kind of relate it to sex. (Works for me anyway!)

Hmmmm... I've been wondering if I sould post on this, since I'm only a few months present, but there's a few people that deserve my respect.

Thrax - Thanks for just being here, although our tastes differ, you always have a helpful comment/opinion.
NearFantastica - Always a pleasure.
CologneJunkie - Just always felt comfortable around you, may be that we're both from/in Overland Park, or it may be that some people feel uncomfortable around me because they think I'm gay, and that's NOT OK. You seem to be very comfortable around me, so thanks for not judging by my mannerisms.
linnea - We had a very cool conversation one night on the basenotes chat, and it was good.
BrothaG - Always a pleasure, and always good for a laugh.
ShadesofBlue - You're from Kansas, and your name reminds me of the Miles Davis album, Kind of Blue.
zztop - Always fun
SuperMarky - Always feels good when you leave a comment.
JockWithScents - LOL!
ifconfig - Always laid back, and if I'm not mistaken, if config is a command prompt command, right?
Sorry if I missed you, no offense intended. It's been a lot of fun living here, and since this reply was posted in two different classes (separated by a bike ride), you'd better appreciate it!

Rich, are you laughing at my screen name?
I love sports and have always played them, hence the jock reference. And unlike most jocks I am able to walk and chew gum at the same time, plus I love fragrance! So there you go..Jock_With _Scents. Oh well..corny I know. I am glad to make someone smile or laugh..whether it is at me or with me. Cheers!

By the way, I have a couple of basenote crushes but could never tell.

The posters I enjoy are too many to mention, you all have taught me so much, and not all of it about the fragrance world.

No, you're just good for lightening the mood sometimes, that's all.

I have too many...

I'll start with the old ones like HackerX, Magnifiscent, Musse, ShyCat, Scentuar7 and a few others.

Now, I've grown to really enjoy the posting of Shifts, Mag (again), Col, Vijay, Joel_Cairo and probably many more. Those are just a few I can think of now.

Great thread .

I have too many frag buddies on this forum, would be quite a task to name all of them, and then I don't want to forget anyone accidently.

Crushes too I plead the 5th on that.

Hey Russ, thanks buddy, and right back at you

I don't have any "crushes" but there are lots of nice people here on Basenotes. Jock_With_Scents seems like a great guy and someone I'd get along well with. Just a vibe I get from reading his posts : )

Thanks for those kind words DJB. I will say that you seem to be quite the gentleman yourself.

Well, it's no secret that I have a crush on Rhiannon and Moondeva — two of the sweetest gals I've ever had the privilege to know, albeit only through some very amusing exchanges here on the boards. And my God, between them they own half the perfumes in Christendom! (Has anyone else noted that they don't dare share photos of their collections?: my conjecture is that to fit them all into the photo they'd have to stand in a different country!)

I also have a crush on Vivien Leigh, both the actress and our own dear member. But then, how could I not?

But I also like Taolady, Tigrushka, Coconut, Pellen and so many, many more — too many to name.

I am delightfully, cheerfully, slutty with my affections. ('Slutty' gets a bad rap in my opinion — it's really a cunningly disguised virtue!)
