Scent Twins - Derivative?

I've heard the Bond No. 9 line referred to as "derivative." I'm always fascinated to see what "smell-alikes" are perceived by others. I'm wondering what Bond No. 9 fragrances smell like other fragrances to you. (Part of my reason for this is to see if I can get any scents I like for a cheaper price, LOL!)

I wrote the scents that remind me of other scents. I don't think they're "twins" but "derivative" or "inspired by" might work as adjectives.

Nuits de NoHo - in the "Angel" family
Eau de NoHo - a bit like Calypso Mimosa (probably the mimosa notes)
So New York - maybe CSP Vanille Mohka
Eau de New York - my husband thinks it's very like Jo Malone Orange Blossom (maybe in the top-notes only)
West Side - topnotes remind me of Tocade, but it doesn't smell like Tocade overall
Hamptons - something...I can't pin it down. CK1 maybe? Cool Water?
Nouveau Bowery
West Broadway
Bleecker Street
Chinatown
Little Italy
Chez Bond
Great Jones
Chelsea Flowers
Wall Street
Riverside Drive
Broadway Nite
Fashion Avenue
Gramercy Park
H.O.T. Always
Madison Soiree
New York Fling
The Scent of Peace
Fire Island
Central Park
New Haarlem
Park Avenue

I think West Side smells like Sage Pearl on the drydown. The rose IS like Tocade, but the peony throws it off a bit.

Chinatown is ever so slightly like CDG Palisander, but with sweet, peachy notes.

I've been trying to figure out what the drydown reminded me of. At first I thought it was like POTL without the almond, but now I realize it does remind me of Sage Pearl. I love, love Tocade and Sage Pearl.

I haven“t smelled so many of them, but Little Italy sure reminded me of O de Lancome.

cedriceecentric has said Chinatown is very similiar to Jungle L'Elephant.

Rochas Man and New Haarlem are nearly two peas in a pod--or maybe that's coffee beans in a cluster.

Well, that just saved me a wad of cash and heartache. Thank you Quarry! :toppie:

Wow! When I tried Chinatown, l'Elephant never even crossed my mind. Same with New Haarlem & Rochas Man! But I've never worn Rochas Man. I know what it smells like because I've smelled it on others. Now I'm going to have to smell those again...

To be more precise, I'd say New Haarlem is a cup of Rochas Man with a side order of cinnamon toast whose edges are a bit burnt. NH is more potent, where RM is timid.

I thought that Parfumie Generale's Cuir Venenum (that sample actually came from you,Tovah ) smelled like a leather-tinged Chinatown!

I keep running across Chinatown clones. When I tried Fendi Theorama, soooo close and now the new Amirage Marriage is another. They all smell like the Anne Klein II clone by Irma Shorell.

Okay - now I'm planning a major sniff expedition. Theorema? I love Theorema! I missed something BIG when I tried Chinatown. Either that or the decant I had was compormised/fake/turned... Damn! I just turned down Mariage for a swap. *kicks self* I hadn't tried it so I didn't want to swap for it. I haven't smelled Anne Klein II or Irma Shorell but I've been wanting to try LLP, so I'll include it in a sample order. Thanks.

I'm about drooling. Something that smells like Theorema in that gorgeous Chinatown bottle. I want it sooooo badly!

Veddy Inteddesting. The CV was all leather to me - gorgeous, voluptuous leather. I've got another sample of that somewhere & I must retest it.

If you like Theorema you won't be disappointed in Chinatown. I do think Marriage is a copy-cat version. A little higher pitched and not as mellow. Actually Chinatown is the only Bond that doesn't turn funny in the dry-down on me. The others I've tried start out well and either fade too fast or turn flat at the end. There are some I haven't tried yet, though. I love that bottle, too but only have a decant for now.So sad.

Hi. I'm new here & could really use your help.

I've been looking for an Anne Klein II clone. Which is the closest? I've been wanting one for years. I really appreciate it. Thanks!

There was a seller on eBay selling Royal Secret II & he had it listed as "Smells like Anne Klein II". Maybe try a sample of RS II?

Hi Kitty! Welcome! I haven't tried this personally but I've heard many positive things about this company.

I trust LLP scents, they are largely pretty good copies.

Nuits de NoHo - Definitely similar to Angel

Chinatown-This one reminded me of Guerlain's Jardins de Bagatelle. Different top notes, but similar drydown.

Fashion Avenue-If you like La Chasse Aux Papillons from L'artisan...this one is very similar, but doesn't have the "ethereal" quality that La Chasse have. It's like La Chasse's "older sister".

The Scent of Peace-When I tried this...it reminded me of Cacharel's Amor Amor. It had the same "grapefruit" opening, and blackberry/musk drydown.

Fire Island-Bobbi Brown's Beach, IMO.

New Haarlem-I wouldn't say that these two are identical at all, but if you like this...you'd like Jo Malone's Black Vetiver Cafe.

Hamptons smells a lot like Creed Silver Mountain Water, which has also been compared to CK1.
