' Ungaro II: Oh my (gonad) goodness ! '

My first foray into the house of Ungaro, and what a start! Ungaro II (U2) is one of the most sensual and well blended fragrances I have tried in recent time.

I couldnt find the notes listing for U2, but despite being masterfully crafted its not hard to detect whats going on. U2 opens with a slick lavender note - its neither too floral nor sharp, and piques the senses. Soon after, I detect hints of citrus, followed by a floral heart which enriches the composition. At this point, the much talked about civet note makes an appearance - to me its a stroke of genius to mix gonad scrappings with the sensual + happy-go-lucky feel of the previous notes. The civet isnt raw or unbearable - for sure its detectable, but instead of recalling images of donkey poop on an exquisite floral bed on a sunny afternoon, the civet note here draws images of a sensual passionate encounter with the opposite sex at a richly perfumed private dig amidst secrecy.

Ungaro II is a sensual, rich, provocative fragrance. The lavender + citrus + floral composition is enriched by a near perfect rendition of a civet note. These are cat gonads at their finest. Some things arent meant to last forever, but this is one rare case where I longed for some discontinued gonad goodness.

What do you think of Ungaro II ?

Which Ungaro (I, II or III) is your favorite and why ?

Ungaro II is great and I really love Ungaro I also. Haven't tried III yet. Ungaro II really reminds me of Guerlain's Jicky. I agree with you though Ungaro II is a masterpiece. I really need to get a bottle.

Me too. The question is ..from where ?

On my skin, the drydown is quite similar to Serge Lutens Muscs Koublai Khan ... floral with civet. MKK lacks all the fancy top and heart note action though.

Yes, it is an extraordinary scent. Probably the lustiest one I've encountered. I believe it's credited to Jacques Polge because the first two Ungaros, at least, were done by Chanel.

Here's an abbreviated pyramid, I don't remember where I got it.

Top: Lemon, Neroli, Lavender, Basil
Mid: Geranium, Ginger, Pepper, Orris
Base: Patchouli, Santal, Benzoin, Civet

It's a hard one to find.

You can get Ungaro II quite easily and inexpensively from the Amazon affiliated stores. It is much cheaper from there than from ebay.

perfumemart.com has it at a good price

It doesn't remind me much of Muscs Koublai Khan (the overall notes are extremely different and that one's far more brazenly animalic) but Ungaro 2 is a massively underrated fragrance without question. It's definitely not lacking for civet. Been awhile since I wore it. I tired of it fairly quickly last year but that can be said of most fragrances I own. I prefer Ungaro 1 but 2 has plenty of substance and satisfies on most all accounts. There are bottles around. I bought a 100 ml spray for $35 last August.

I found this site in a terrific thread about the original Carven Homme fragrance. Discussion turned to prices. $450.00 for a 1.7oz obottle of Halston 101. The link is broken in the thread but the bottle can be found looking at the Halston offerings.
Anyhoo here's what thay have for men from the house of Ungaro

1stperfume and perfumedistributor.com are owned by the same guy who have a really bad reputation and reviews on various sites. I've never oredered from them but I just want to warn people who are thinking about it. Here are some links:

they're pretty bizarre. When I get a chance I'll cull down the emails and type the 2 storys up in one post. the reason I used them a second time was because they finally overnighted a new package at their expense. after the 2nd fiasco I'd had enough.

Well, the item I mentioned (Ungaro II) ended with no offers and now it is relisted, starting at a even lower price. The photo says Lotion Apres Rasage, but I cannot read if it is a spray bottle ( as stated), or a splash.

But my quest remains,I have to find a reasonably priced Ungaro I.

pluran has a 2.5 oz bottle of Ungaro I at a decent price on the sell board. Cheaper than you can find anywhere else.

nice! I've never ordered from them myself. It's good to know that they delivered quickly. I just got ripped off big time by an online store for over $300 and I am trying to get my money back through paypal. I wish we were allowed to discuss bad ebay sellers and online stores here.
