She has a birthday fairly soon and she loves perfumes almost as much as I do. Her favorites are Givenchy Organza, Chanel N19, Yves Saint Laurent Opium, and Jean Paul Gaultier Classique Eau de Parfum (woman in a corset). I was thinking of getting her L'Artisan Parfumeur L'Eau D'Ambre, but then someone said that one reminded them of a creepy grandmother. So now I'm confused. I live in NYC so I have access to most niche fragrances. Any help would be much appreciated.

Elegant, subtle, and refined, For an introspective frame of mind. Close to the skin, it lingers on, I'll re-apply before it's gone. I wish that it would longer stay, But "Less is More,"...

I dislike the original AdG, always have because of the bitterness and strange orange synthetic note. The Essenza after one wear won me over, smooth opening, soft woodiness once it settles down....

Disturbingly bad. This opens up obscure, smoky, spicy and what seems like an attempt of a jasmine flower note. I have smelt jasmine notes from higher end perfumery and this is utterly...

Try searching out Baghari by Robert Piguet. It's a classic that has been recently reissued with some reformulation and it's my latest love! It's a very nice warm floral oriental but with some definite freshness in the top notes that linger for hours. So depending on whether I'm moving or sitting still, I smell different facets of the perfume, all of which smell fabulous! Also, it's not a terribly "young" fragrance, but it doesn't smell old-fashioned either. Definitely worth a sniff!

Hello there, so very sweet of you to be so considerate of your mother-in-law and of what she likes and dislikes in fragrances
. I think that perhaps IVOIRE DE BALMAIN might work or even something like Coco Chanel (since she enjoys Chanel's already).
Other's she might enjoy:
Sublime by Jean Patou
Youth Dew by Estée Lauder
Amazone by Hermèss
Eau de Camille by Annick Goutal
Metal Jeans Versace
Best of luck

Welcome Fico!!
Get down to Aedes de Venusta on Christopher Street and let those smart boys help you out! You can check out the lines they carry first http://www.aedes.com/ and go armed with questions.
You can get samples and let MIL pick out her own. Or make her a gift certificate that includes a girls' lunch (with you, of course) and her pick at AdeV .
(You DO know most of those frags are tres chere? Bless your loving heart!!)
Let us know how it goes!! :bounce:
