Show your Art — Photography, Painting, Sculpture, even Installations (!) - Page 2

post #61 of 141
Thanks for the kind words y'all!

CoTHukoB, theyre painted on wood or canvas that has a rabbit-glue/plaster primer. Those painted on primed canvas are then "shattered" to give a cracked effect, and applied to hand-carved woods. Its a painfully long process, but as I said, I like to stick to the traditional methods as much as possible. Working with the rabbit-glue however is nauseating - it produces one hell of a noxious stench!

GAIVS IVLIVS CAESAR, many hagiographic images on the net are modern reproductions of antique originals. There doesnt seem to be such a 'big deal' amongst artists with 'borrowing' from other artists work. Such is the tradition with Byzantine-inspired icons that one artisan lends his/her knowledge designs and ideas to the next so that the religious significance and accuracy of the piece can be preserved. (However, that being said, it might be wise to investigate further though those that youve sourced for your film as SOME are created for commercial use).

Eluard, thank you... your play sounds fascinating! Have any of your plays been produced on stage? If you ever get it made into a big film... hit me up and the Mrs and I will come and paint you an impressive backdrop

Love the cake Thrax.

Most of my stuff was lost due to a failed raid drive (must learn to back shit up), but I do have some older images online still.

Here's a couple of newer ones I shot for a friend of mine. Sorry if they're too big.

Dimitri, next time you're at a newsstand, see if you can find Conde Nast Traveller, March 2007. There is something on page 115 you might be interested in. It is an altar in the church in Pyrgos Dirou, on the Mani Peninsula in the Peloponnese.

Trioxin, great photos!

Thanks for the offer Dimitri! Yes, the play The Iconoclasts has had a handful of performances and I filmed the first bit of it a prologue so that it could be back projected over the play. But it would be terrific someday to film the rest. Alas, I would need a beautiful and imperious (and a slightly mad) woman to play the main role of Irene.

:: wonders: perhaps there might be one somewhere around here?::

Trioxin

Love the flag building and the bridge particularly the former! Great shot, worthy of Robert Franks.

The shots of your friend are very nice, but now it looks as though we are in the digital domain. Still, I'm sure she'd be very happy with them.

Ah I see you've promoted yourself to Captain, Murdoch! Good man!

How imperious? Well certainly falcon-hunting-imperious. That goes without saying.

But the real question is: how mad? And I'm afraid, Murdoch, that what is required here is son-murdering-mad.

Aaaah Eluard! Santorini! My fave place on the planet. *gushes with national pride*
A postcard at every turn! I can only assume that is a bird in front of the volcano to the right of the picture, and not a flying fish! Nice photo... (and a bit surreal)...

And that is what you call "slightly mad"

Oh well, I can play 'Medea' so this should not cause problems. As long as I can "get my picture on the cover on of the Rolling Stone"
And just for the record: did not promoted myself. Murdock is a Captain

Just wait for the sound of my chopper.

Ehm, BTW, BA insists on escorting me. Any problems with that?

Yes, Santorini the hard thing on Santorini is taking a photo that does not look like a postcard I managed a few shots that I've never seen before. One of the most astonishing places on Earth. Do you come from there?

You're right that blur must have been a bird of some sort but no matter how much I enlarge it I can't recognise it as a bird. Very strange.

Now let's see:

BA = Booking Agent?

BA = Brian Aherne?

BA = British Airways?

BA = Betrothal Anchor?

BA = Body Armour?

BA = Basenotes Angel?

BA = Bingo Announcer?

BA = Broken Amour?

BA = Bestial Accomplice?

or

BA = BrothA?

And yes, if not Rolling Stone then perhaps World's Most Wanted.

BA Bad Attitude (Baracus)

However, Basenotes Angel is really much nicer.

I see I will have to polish your knowledge about camp television series. How could you have missed the A-Team?

I thought my knowledge of camp television was passable but clearly it needs some work. Tuner Watson's reference was one of the best I've seen here. Maybe we need a camp tv thread, or at least an Avenger's thread. (What would Steed wear?)

I'm glad you like his painting, it was a gift for my 41st birthday.
Here is one more of his, a charcoal of a local book store.

This is a bird's eye view of one of my ceramic sculptures. It was inspired by my wishes to meet my chinese grandmother who died before that was possible. I imagined throwing myself into her arms as a young girl.

Octothorpe, your magnified/microscopic photos are fascinating. I'd like to use your velcro as my desktop background if you don't mind.

You guys are both so talented - love your work. And that touching story about your Chinese Grandmother...what a gifted lot!

Adrian, yeah, I posted this and other photos on a virtual gallery project called Now:Here:This where artists would post an image every week and share the most important thing on his or her mind at the time. If you google me you would find a variety of images ... I posted consistently for nearly two years.

Renee, please tell Master T that this painting will be added to the collection
Would this made one hell of an avatar or not? Glorious beauty.

::wish he could do something with my picture like that::

Bit late in noticing this thread too. I used to dabble in a bit of abstract artwork. First two are encaustic and last is really old oil pastel one I made partly using paintings I scrapped.

post #90 of 141
Love that middle one, Healer
post #91 of 141
jrd4t - those are very professional looking shots - great light quality - thanks for posting them. I like the last one best

healer, those are neat images - I enjoyed the color and texture in them. The first two have more of an organic quality to them, the last one is rather geometric. reminds me of Paul Klee's compositions a bit.
post #92 of 141
Thanks for the comments Scentronic and rtamara41. The first two were done, about four or five years ago, using encaustic wax and an iron (one without holes in the base) and a stylus tool to melt the wax. I think the way the wax flows in its own way partly gives pictures their own personality. The middle one Scentronic mentioned made use of pearlescent wax which created the silver/grey patches and helped give the picture the shimmering effect. The last one which reminds rtamara41 of Klee's work was done in 1991 when I first got in to art and worked solely with oil pastels and my aim was to use pieces of scrapped pictures and also colours I'd never used from the pastel set. My influences at the time were Kandinsky (another who had a period of geometric/musical pieces), Chagall and indeed Klee.

Thanks. Leica 90mm Summicron.

I should add that the inspiration for it was that Picasso sculpure that is in Chicago somewhere, outside some building.

there's an article on the New Yorkers website about Leica, the camera and it's users and worshipers.

May I be so bold as to ask who some of your influences are/were?

I dabbled in bass guitar until I realized I was more bass collector (original blonde music man before anyone knew leo made them and a 5 string rick)

Listening to Michael hedges as I type and I'm a huge Kottke fan.

My influences aren't really that impressive... but I started doing touch-style after watching a few videos by Preston Reed.. and Hedges. From there, I found Justin and Kaki King. In terms of who's influenced my playing the most, it's Dave Knudson from Minus the Bear.

I also listen to a lot of 90's post-hardcore (Jawbox, Braid, etc.)
