Game: Guess the Fragrance by the Picture!

Thread Starter

Get ready for a brand new game!

It's based upon the following idea: someone will post a picture that is in some way related to (the name of) a fragrance. Every member will then be able to guess that particular name. For instance, a picture of the Nile river and a garden near it could translate into Un Jardin sur le Nil.

The rules are quite simple:
** Post a picture that refers to a fragrance. It doesn't necessarily have to be an existing image, you can also come up with a combination of images or create/shoot something yourself. Be creative.
** If your picture appears to be too hard to solve, you can give a few hints later on. For instance, mention that the fragrance's name is French.
** Please respect the web traffic and copyright of other people. It's recommended to upload your image to a free hosting service such as TinyPic , ImageShack , or Xs.to so that the original uploader won't suffer from hotlinking. Also, make sure the filename ('nameoftheimage.jpg') does not reveal the answer.
** Once one is solved, feel free to post a new challenge. If you've posted an image, please check back to the thread often to see if people have guessed the scent's name.
** If the poster of a puzzle does not return to the thread in a fair amount of time, other members are free to come up with a new one. The previous poster can still confirm later whether or not people were right in their guessing.
** For those creating puzzles: when confirming the right answer please include the house to allow easier archiving of the thread.
** Please note: everyone is greatly encouraged to guess along. However, this has to be an equally fun game for all members and therefore, everyone guessing is kindly asked to contribute to the thread by creating a challenge yourself every now and then. Don't let the guessers keep guessing and the creators creating, but be creative instead.
** Motivate your guessing, i.e. mention why you think it's this or that fragrance.
** Please only use fragrances that are listed in the Basenotes Fragrance Directory (over 10.000 listed). This way, people who are not familiar with a certain scent can still play along.
** For all other cases, please refer to the Basenotes Forum Rules.

Quote:
** Every now and then, we try to update the list of fragrances that have been used on this thread. If you wish, you can refer to this list (see below these rules) and see which scents have been placed so far. The list does not prohibit you from re-posting a fragrance that was used before. Just try to make sure it hasn't been used too recently and provide different clues.

Hannibal, I have a headache, remember?

But a virtual Teaser! Great idea!

Kicking off with my beloved scent. Habit Rouge?

Correct, Murdock! You've proven yourself a worthy member (and husband), solving the puzzle despite your headache!

OK, this is one I took myself (and edited), probably a little harder:
Baffled!! Not funny for you when the first guess is right.

Right, I will restrain myself (almost impossible):

L'air du désert Marocain? With Rock Rose in the heart notes?
Thread Starter
Nope, I'm afraid that's not it, but the rose certainly plays a large role.. keep guessing people!
Rose Water or L'Eau Rose? Possibly Ecume de Rose although I don't really see foam on that water..
THis is fun. Voleur des roses?
Can't resist: Rose de Siwa?
Well, if that's an aircraft i see, and that's flak i see, and that's a rose i see ... then it's the No. 88.

Shadow, water, rose = L'Ombre dans L'Eau

Liberty Fizz by Nina Ricci??

Well done Musse. Is there really such a Nina Ricci fragrance with such an unfortunate name as Liberty Fizz?

Hm, could it be Jil Sander "Sun"?
Yes, Libery Fizz is one of the Belles de Ricci (the original green one with the pink top). It smells like tomatoes and rapsberries and I love it for summer. I had no idea it was actually called that until I came here...just thought of it as Belles de Ricci..."the green one".

Rasa?

You got it my friend. Congratulations.

Czech & Speake No. 88 it is.

Ra is the Egyptian sun god, but Ra is also the abbreviation for Radium, number 88 in the Periodic Table of Elements. You will notice that the picture had Ra written out clearly.

The piano keys. The number of keys on a piano is 88 (36 black and 52 white).

Which clue gave it away?

Angel?

Pictures referring to the Jazzmusician Sun Ra, who claimed that he was of the "Angel Race" and not from Earth, but from Saturn?
On his 'Spaceship Lullaby' is a song called Perfume Counter.

Pfffff, this is a difficult one. But....fun!

UPDATE: There I am in the early morning trying to make some sense of this and......someone else solves it!!

But: great Picture Teaser and a very clever answer. Congratulations

It was the 88 keys. After that I was pretty certain, but I was googling around trying to link Ra to it (been a long time since I learned the periodic table back in high school... diabloical of you!). I was thinking "hmmmm, is he symbolically linked to roses at all?" "Is there anything mournful or melancholic about him?" (nope, that would be anubis). Then I just went ahead and logged my guess.

So I guess I'll put out the next one. A bit of an easy one to get us going this monday morning:

Musse, you are on the right track with 'McQueen'. Only it is not Alexander. Another McQueen and ....who is that lady on the other picture?
Think "oldish movies''.....and then start thinking in French.

Alright, maybe it is not as easy as I thought.
A perfume from a French House, it is even in my wardrobe and in the Directory.

Riannon, that picture seems to be Steve McQueen.. I believe he played in The Getaway with Ali MacGraw, which was released as Guet Apens in France... so that would make it Guerlain's Guet Apens, no?

Seems we have a suffragette her. So that really is a 'prison picture'.
But who is it? Not Pankhurst (was in prison more often), Sojourner Truth would have been nice but....pictures most certainly don't match.
Our Dutch Aletta Jacobs? Nah, and Luctor et Emergo is not men marketed.

Well, maybe inspiration for a brighter mind. That is, when I am right about 'suffragette'.

Fredricktoo, I am going to eat some 'piece of cake' and drink a whole lotta coffee.

not a suffragette she was the subject of a Chumbawamba song "When Alexander met _"

she was also quoted in the liner notes of a Chumbawamba album.

bork... bork bork
Soooo, here we have Alexander Berkman and Emma Goldman.
She would rather have roses on her table than diamonds round her neck.

Hmm, sweet statement, since I love the roses in my house.

And.....we have a very discontinued scent from Laura Ashley called 'Emma'.
Can't imagine this was ever marketed as a men's fragrance.

Pleading temporarily insanity, your honor. Due to lack of sleep.

Hmmm, dunno, but ALES and a 'breath of freedom'? Rather unfortunate name. The 'breath of Borks' seems more appropriate somehow.

Hug to the esteemed Mr. Fredricktoo for a most entertaining 'piece of cake'. May your kitchencloset never be empty

I hope someone recognizes this picture. hmmmm I'll need hints tomorrow to soon to ask good size fits my window and loaded quickly.
Aye, beautiful picture and it loaded quickly for me as well.
It is Eugene Delacroix's - The Barque of Dante. And now where does that take of scentwise?
--------------------------------------
I got it! It leads us scentwise to Passage D'Enfer which roughly translates as the path from this world to the next, or even the gates of hell.

Nice one Riannon.

I didn't all of a sudden recognize the painting but upon a bit of research we have a name:
"Barque of Dante and Virgil Crossing the River Styx" so thanks

Riddle would you have a painting or pic you'd like to throw at us? you won.
