Frag's 101: The Categories...

Having just recently discovered the subtleties of my olfactory equipment, I've run across several terms here on basenotes. Aquatics, Orientals, Sandlewoods, to name a few. I'm wondering if you can give me a list of all the major categories in the universe called Fragrance please. After I have the categories, then I can get on with the fun questions:::::::::::::

This is a difficult question to answer as the catagories are vague and to an extent, they are subjective.

Suggestions:
Have a look at Michael Edwards' fragrance wheel (google it), that may help a bit.
Use the search function on these boards and read old threads.
Use wikipaedia.

I thought the Sephora fragrance finder was fun to play around with, as it broke the fragrances down into several categories and sub categories. People use more categories then that, but it was a good starting point.

...and so does Guerlain!! :bounce: They'll even tell you what "type" you are (which can change from entry to entry - depending on the mood you're in!! )

Annoyingly, this only works for women's fragrances.
