Recipes and Matching Fragrances for Cooking

I had a wonderful day of cooking today, made several dishes and meals to both eat and store away for the next few days. The joy of puttering is greatly appreciated when you work full time. As I was making a simple guacamole dish, I found myself enjoying the fragrance I was wearing, thinking how perfectly it enhanced my experience today. My son who was helping me even commented on it.

I thought we could have a thread of favorite recipes and then a fragrance suggestion for enhancement of preparing that particular dish. Sound odd? Cooking is such a multi sensory experience, it seemed a good idea to me.

Here's a guacamole recipe I got from an ER doc friend of mine:

2 ripe avocados, mashed
2 garlic cloves, minced
2 ripe tomatoes, chopped
2 tbs of olive oil
juice from 1/2 lime or lemon
1 tbs of chopped cilantro (or coriander seed)
salt and pepper to taste

mash avocados with fork, add tomatoes and minced garlic, mix in the rest of the stuff and let sit in a fridge for 1 hour. Add beer and oily chips if desired

Best prepared wearing Kingdom by Alexander McQueen

I also made a mango teriyaki tilapia dish over soba noodles with fresh mangos and green salad....oh happy day!

Got this receipt off a great old cooking show - "Great Chefs - Great Cities" writing furiously - didn't note the city or the chef or even the restaurant.

Been years since I've made this, so here goes:
TaoLady Tiramisu

(First, liberally apply Ava Luxe Cafe Noir behind ears, on chest and bosoms, and inside of elbows. No wrist or backs of hands. Luxuriate.)

1 lb. sponge cake
1/2 C. heavy whipping cream, whipped
1/3 C. sugar
3 large eggs, separated
3 T. unsweetened cocoa
1/4 C. powdered espresso in water(!!)
3/4 lb. Marscapone cheese

Add sugar to egg yolks and whisk vigorously over bain marie. When creamy, whip egg whites to soft peak. Add cheese to egg yolks. Stir whites into egg/cheese mix.

Slice sponge cake into layers and line 9X13 greased dish. Soak with espresso/water. Add layer of the whipped cream. Another layer of cake. Then the egg/cheese mixture. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours. Dust with cocoa powder.

Spoon onto individual plates. Dust again.

My notes add that I've done this with lady fingers in wine glasses (Burgundy balloons??), making two layers instead of one and added shaved dark chocolate. I like this recipe 'cause it has no booze in it. (I can't drink booze.)

Who's next??

Chypre Rouge can go with any pasta dish...
As for desserts, just hit Ava Luxe - there's a perfume for every dessert going!

Lonestar Memories sounds as though it should go with baked/bbq beans a la Blazing Saddles.

[IMG]httokay, I may have gone off my rocker, but this morning I made my first batch of pancakes on my new stove

and got so excited that I ended up naming my stove SERGE and taking its picture. Sorry the photo is a bit blurred, my hands must have been shaking with excitement. I was wearing Nirmala by Molinard, it must have put me in a worship mode, as usual

This reminds me of when I was living in Alaska as a door to door saleswoman and came across a family living up in a very rural village of Alaska. The family was comprised of an elderly man and his three grown sons, they were all rather stout and squat and sported pointy white beards, they called to mind the dwarves in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. They bought a picture or two from me, I was selling artwork at the time, then they said, "Do you want to see our photo album?" As I leafed through, I quickly realized that about 80% of the subject matter was of their truck. Their truck in a field, their truck in front of a fence, their truck in the driveway, once in a while, them with the truck. I found their obsession rather endearing.
This morning as I snapped my photo of Serge, I felt a kinship to these fellows.
Human nature is a strange and wonderful thing.

Great story, great photos!!

Your story reminds me of my second ex-husband who - on his first ever trip to Europe - took photos of nothing but.....European cars! (Partial explanation for the "ex"!!)

So. No recipe for the 'cakes???
