Notes I have come to love

Thread Starter
I have been reflecting on my scented journey and realized that there are certain notes that I "awakened" to, experienced the thrill of recognition and enjoyment, the happiness of realizing their resonance with my personal aesthetic.

Some of these are:

leather (tabac Blond)

sandalwood/jasmine (Eugenie)

Patchouli (Jalaine, Voleur de Roses)

labdanum (Madame X)

Vetiver (Himalaya)

ROSE ( Sa Majeste la Rose, Voleur de Roses, Czech & Speake 88, RASA)

Perhaps this is a simplistic list, but it came to mind.

What are significant notes of discovery for you and which scents epitomize these notes in your experience?

Vetiver and Tea notes are two that I have come to love. Flowery notes and cedar are two more. Others I've known I love for a long time.

My favs are Vanilla, Patchouli, Sandalwood, Amber and Roses. I have the sweetest sweet tooth and I love that in my frags. I often wear Aveda Patchouli with other frags, but I love to wear it alone too, especially with Baby Magic Lotion the original scent.

Ooooh, I looooove Baby Magic Lotion! A way I've been wearing it lately(might sound crazy), but I mix a little of that with some Palmer's Cocoa Butter! It makes it slightly sweet and adds a little depth to the Baby Magic smell. I've heard of Angel being described as "chocolate mixed with Baby Magic lotion." Except this is nowhere near as strong or expensive.

In my scent journey I've learned to appreciate "heavier" amber and civet scents like Tabu - one of my faves if it didn't turn straight to cloves after 1 hour on me.

About a year ago I realised that I loved ylang-ylang, when I started using a y-y based shampoo. I thought "ohhh....THAT'S what that is!!". I recognised it from one of my favourites, Diorissimo. I then did a BN search for other scents containing y-y, which led me to try Songes, which I now adore.

OMG!! Don't you just love Baby Magic lotion. It lasts longer than most frags lol! After talking about it, I had to wear it today. I smell soooo good lol. I use the Palmers too with some of my frags. I love the coco butter scent with some of my spicy/sweet frags. The Baby Magic lotion works well with the spicy frags also.

I've always counted vanilla, amber, heliotrope, leather, and incense as my favorite notes. Recently I have discovered immortelle and saffron, and I'm becoming quite fond of both.

Immortelle can be found in L de Lolita Lempicka, Cuir Beluga, and Sables.

My favorite saffron scents are Ange ou Demon, Black Cashmere, and Safron Troublant.

When I first arrived at Basenotes I loved fruity and gourmand scents. Now I've gained a taste for more sophisticated fare...

Leather
Tobacco
Musk (which I detested before!)
Amber
Patchouli
Gardenia

Oh, no, try Aqua Allegoria Mentafollia. I can send you a sample. Glorious spearmint. Smells like you walked through a patch of spearmint in the garden.

As for me, I have always loved sandalwood and patchouli.
Over the past year, I fell in love with galbanum, that crazy green note in Miss Dior, No. 19, Yerbamate, Bandit, Ayala Moriel Ayalitta and Grin, and a host of other scents.
My latest wood obsession has been with oud, in all of Montale's offereings,
and lately, with the challenging note of vetiver, which smells like woven grass baskets and is not a bit sweet.
On my favorite floral list is hyacinth, featured so beautifully in Chamade and L'Artisan Parfumer Jacinthes des Bois.

Oh my gosh, it DOES last longer than most frags! lol

I'm like you - I layer my Palmers w/ spicy/oriental frags or dry, powders(baby powder) scents. With the Baby Magic I layer sweet, foody fragrances. Soooo yummy!

Back on topic:

I've also learned to enjoy green/woody/chypre fragrances - Mitsouko, Royal Secret, and Halston.
