Pictures of Perfumers

Just thought it'd be fun to have a thread of photos of our favourite perfumers, see what they look like. Hmm, what kind of conjecture can we hallucinate about them based on their appearance?

Serge Lutens

Not a perfumer himself, but directs Sheldrake (below) as to what he wants for his line, which is my favourite.

Christopher Sheldrake (left)

Perfumer of all the Lutens fragrances, also Femininité du Bois, and if I'm not mistaken he's been hired by Dior as well.

Jean Claude Ellena

Creations include Terre, the Hermessence line, Jardin en Meditérranée, Jardin sur le Nil for Hermes, the Thé Vert/Rouge/Blanc series for Bvlgari.

Jean Paul and Jacques Guerlain

Vetiver, Shalimar, Samsara, and many many other heavenly classics.

Pépé LePew

Creator of Kouros, Muscs Koublai Khan and many, many others (help me out with these if you know of any!)

The Frederic Malle website has nice pictures of all the Perfumers in his Editions line. They're each one click away from this directory: http://www.editionsdeparfums.com/mal...umeurs/medias/

Don't miss the lovely Olivia Giacobetti!

Hey, I enjoyed your Guerlain site by the way! Just listened to the NPR interview.

He does look Freudian!

I didn't realize Super Mario was a perfumer!

Serge looks a bit naughty and somewhat witty-cheeky on that first picture...Olivia is a beautiful woman...
thanks for the sharing everyone!

Hey you know what - we should mark what these guys/gals have created - besides Tauer I don't recognize any of the ones I didn't post myself! I'll go back and add some fragrances to the images.

Sheldrake was hired not by Dior but by Chanel. The guy in the picture with Sheldrake is Chanel nose, Jacques Polge.

P.S. Where did you get such a large image of Olivia Giacobetti, and can you find a similarly large image of one of my two, three favorite noses, Annick Menardo?

JC Ellena is a very handsome man!

Thanks so much all y'all! Can't believe that the creator of the marvelous Lipstick Rose - SO jazzy and in-your-face could look so....geeky! (Not that that's terrible!)

Alberto Morillas, who made my beloved Flower!

And not to forget our sweet Christine Nagel, who made some VERY sensual scents!

Like Histoire d'Eau by Mauboussin (and didn't she help with Narsico Rodriguez for her?)

Christophe Laudamiel and Christoph Horn

Names should be reversed. That's Christoph Horn on the left and Christophe Laudamiel on the right.

I know he 's got this tall germanic geeky look but maybe it 's just a bad picture. I 'm so in love with Lipstick Rose!

the very enigmatic out of this world Serge Lutens...

Unfortunately, his perfums aren't as good as he looks.

Let's not forget that everyone has a different taste and different chemistry/match with a scent
post #24 of 33
He certainly has a remarkable nose.
And his perfumes are : .......?

I beg to differ! Querelle and Corps et Ames are glorious. Bois de Copaiba isn't really my style, but it smells positively ambrosial on my boyfriend.

I was surprised to see that P.G. is a young hottie, there's a maturity to his compositions that led me to expect someone less youthful behind them.

Again, as someone noted, a lot has to do with personal taste and skin chemistry. Maybe not so much skin chemistry, as they worked well with my skin, but they just lacked originality (we've all smelt a chocolate scent before), a bit dull or boring and just plain old did nothing for me. But again, this is all in my opinion. I just think there's other better niche perfume houses out there.

I beg to differ too .... enough said if he toppled Serge from the throne he was sitting on in my heart. But you're right...it's all about personal taste. However, I wouldn't want to hijack this thread which is about perfumer's pictures...should we start a new thread on PG? It's not much talke about.

Thanks! The only ones I've tried among those are Tea for Two and Phylosykos, and those are amazing 5 star scents for sure.

Hey, is she "L'Artisan" or is "L'Artisan" just a house with many perfumers? I always assumed for some reason that it was one guy.

No L'Artisan is just the name of the line - they employ many noses. Jean Claude Ellena, Karine Vinchon, Bertrand Duchaufour, Anne Flipo, Michel Almairac and many more...

Takes away some of the romance of the idea of *the* artisan... Oh well, still hope to get some of that Tea for Two - how amazing is the devellopment of that one? It totally comes alive in three dimensions, slowly over time, from a perfume smell to a 3 dimensional "vision"! So what if the vision is a wet tea bag? It's still so damned cool!
