Looking for a sensual wood scent

Thread Starter
Hi all...I've started to get a bit tired of the usual aquatics that I wear, so I'd like a new fragrance. I'm kind of looking for something that is dark, sensual, maybe a bit spicy and that is a wood scent. Curious to see what you all suggest. And by the way I returned Lucky Number 6, which I believe is a sensual wood - because the staying power was just too short.

Gucci Pour Homme by Gucci - drop dead sexy, woody, a slight incense note. One of Tom Ford's finer moments at Gucci.

Also, if price is not an object, go for my absolutely favorite sensual wood scent: Ambre Sultan by Serge Lutens.

If price is not an issue, Santal Noble by MPG would be an excellent choice IMO.
Can't go wrong with YSL M7...another Tom Ford product.

He beat me to the punch. Santal Noble is the ultimate wood scent IMO.

I will third the Santal Noble, phenomenal stuff.

I totally second this one!

Serge Lutens Chene. Utterly gorgeous, and rumored to be the winter special-guest-star export scent. (you don't have your location in your sig, so I am assuming that you aren't in the EU)

Check out Guerlain's Bois d'Arménie if you can find it. Very special and different, a woody oriental that's very sensual to my nose.

Top note : Frankincense, Iris, Pink Pepper
Middle note : Gaiac Wood, (Saintwood), Benzoin, Coriander
Base note : Patchouli, Copahu Balm, Musk

Try Macassar (Rochas). Extreme woody. Hard to get hold of, but worth it !
Some of these might fit the bill:

Sandalo by Villoresi - beautiful sandalwood and sensual rosewood
Santal de Mysore by Lutens - brilliant spicy-sweet sandalwood
Rochas Lui - woody oriental, neroli, cedar, vanilla
Jaguar Mark II - a sensuous woody patchouli, fantastic, if you can get it
Tristano by Tristano Onofri - a sleeper, fresh, rich, woody, spicy, sweet
B*Men by Mugler - sweet, gourmandy wood. Modern.
Vetyver by L'Occitance - earthy vetiver with spicy oriential touches
Punjab by Capucci - a leathery chypre with oriental notes. Cedar, patchouli and fir notes on the wood side, but also myrrh, olibanum, amber, leather, moss. Very 80s.

Also, though it's dry and smoky rather than sensuous, try Creed's Bois du Portugal, one of the best woodies out there.

All great suggestions on this thread. I would like to add an inexpensive one...Carven Homme.
I'm on a Lutens trip today. The quality of raw materials in these fragrances is completely out of f_cking site.

Sensual and exotic wood:

Serge Lutens Chêne
Serge Lutens Santal de Mysore
Serge Lutens Cèdre
Balenciaga Pour Homme
Editions Parfums Noir Epices

Creed Bois de Santal {sandalwood + vanilla + green orange}: amazing sandalwood, very few can match it

Chanel Bois des Iles {sandalwood + florals + neroli}: sandalwood classic...has a sensual 'gingerbread' effect

YSL M7 {agarwood + vetiver}: superb reasonably priced agarwood juice

MPG Santal Noble {cedarwood + coffee beans}: more cedar than sandalwood, but it has its fans...do you think wooden chests are sensual?
Tumulte by Christian Lacroix,
Gucci Rush.
anteus?

bois des iles - chanel ?

arabie by SL has a great cedar base and its really spicy and sensual
post #17 of 36
Ambre Sultan comes immediately to mind.
And Feminite du Bois by Shiseido

Bois de Santal by Keiko Mecheri
Oliban by Keiko Mecheri

Keiko does woods very well, in my opinion.

I definitely third the Serge Lutens Chene recommendation. Part of me hopes its not the winter export as I have a bell jar on its way from Paris at the moment. I cant wait to really hit that bottle hard this fall - its perfect for Fall in the Poconos!

A few more you might be interested in :

Terre d'Hermes {flint, pepper, grapefruit, cedar, benzoin}...a smooth mineralic scent with cedar and benzoin. "A voyage that goes on to unveil the earthy sensuality of wood notes softened with benzoin. "

Creed Original Santal {cedar, sandalwood, cinnamon, coriander, benzoin}...a sexy spicy-sweet woody scent.

Truefitt & Hill West Indian Limes ...perhaps not a very sensual scent, but its loaded with woody petitgrain and a bit of lime.

ultimately there are some choices for you to pick one:
Gucci Pour Homme
Envy for Men by Gucci
M7 by YSL
Antaeus by Chanel
All of the Guccis mentioned: Pour Homme, Envy, and Rush, with Envy being the most obviously sexy, but the least woody by a long shot, and Rush probably being the most versatile and most woody, but least refined and complex (that award goes to PH). What a great wood house! And all of them are extremely affordable.

I support
M7
Gucci PH
Tumulte PH
Antaeus

Gucci Envy, what I'm wearing tonight.

Zino Davidoff has rosewood, cedar and sandalwood--and it is a VERY sensual scent!

Great suggestions listed in this thread. My favorite category of fragrance. Sensual wood? Try these:

Serge Lutens Chene - oak wood, nothing else
CdG Palisander - palisander and incense spice
CdG Sequoya - smells like spiced rum in a sauna - warm all over.
J Peterman 1903 - inexpensive but fantastic green woody chypre
Ave Luxe Firewood - pine and sandal wood freshly cut
Gucci pour Homme - spice, woods and earth
Diptyque Tam Dao - dry natural sandalwood

It is awesome to see you recommend this, for this was the first thought in my mind, too, upon reading the subject line! Perfect, near-ideal suggestion!

Not yet mentioned, I will also nominate Hermes Rocabar. My wife (then-girlfriend) used to keep one of my shirts with her in North Guilford (New Haven, Yale) after I'd worn it while wearing Rocabar so that she could smell it from time to time after I'd returned to South Dakota.

Add another vote for Santal de Mysore.

Although it strikes me as more spicy than woody, Idole de Lubin.

Oh yes, M7! Hub has changed from summer's Égoïste to M7 now that the temperature has dropped and it's irresistible, leaves a gorgeous trail.

Also thumbs up for
Santal Noble
Antaeus

And I would add SL Un Bois Sépia, my fave tree-hugging scent, gotta love it!
Not the most spectacular Lutens
but a very satisfactory experience:
Un Cèdre
particularly during fall and winter.

(Some may find the entry of the tuberose a bit too sensual - but it will pass!)
