I do like to be beside the sea side.....

oh I do like to be beside the sea....

B-noters,

The time is nigh and the tide is high!

I be needing a marine scent. I'm thinking more along the lines of salt, sand and palm trees than aquatics.

So far I've tried Aria di Mare from il profumo and Acqua di Sale from Profumum. Aria di Mare was clearly the winner but longevity was poor.

Suggestions please!

Inevitably Creed's Erolfa. And for the beach thing CSP's Aqua Motu. There was a very indepth maritime thread here this year, which the search function should reveal.

Some of the scents that remind of the sea are:

Creed Millesime Imperial
Creed Erolfa
Bond Wall Street
Hermes Terre D'hermes

I get most longevity from the last two. IMO the sea weed note is most prominent in Wall Street. Erolfa has this amazing salty sea water note but it doesnt project too well and longevity is abysmal.

I agree with Erolfa. One of the weakest Creeds for me!!

Another vote for Erolfa, It's truly amazing!

i find a lot of people around here seem to question Erolfa's longevity. but i've always found that it lasts and lasts. it's not a sillage monster, and in fact it stays pretty close to me when i wear it.

but it almost always hangs around so that after 9 to 10 hours at the office and coming home to change into comfy home clothes, i still catch a good whiff of it on myself and go.. mmmm EROLFA!

Tommy Bahama Set Sail Saint Barts (I sure wish that name were shorter!) is a nice beach-friendly fragrance, although it doesn't specifically conjure salt, sand, and palm. Same for Creed Virgin Island Water.

Erolfa!

Erolfa, or Mare (Beth Terry's, different from the one you've smelled)

Maestrale - Profumi di Pantelleria
What a nice little secret it is.

Original kenzo pour Homme is a nice walk on the side side,it's more like ozone smell of sea, not organic seaweed.
It's classic but a love-hate on first sight. It's crisp, natural and terribly long lasting.
Go for this one if you don't like synthetics.

Another quite original is Aqua Motu. It's like the smell of a scuba dive suit wet with ocean water. When you smell it you can pick up the grass dry feel of the helycrisum, a marine plant, with silver leafs and yellow flowers with acrid smell, kind of organic rubber scent, then it mix with the warm sand and for sure iodine or fucus that gives more appealing of the rubbery scent, and gives you the vibe of walk along the beach.
The resul It's quite vinil but very salty too in a odd but irresistibke way. Very uncommon.
I heard too about Mare that smell quite dry, very alike as salt. never tried yet, but I grown up and lived long time by the sea side, and I really know what are you looking for.
So i'd probably stick on those two I mentioned above...
Try them!.

Fendi Life Essence. Yum.

I second the Maestrale suggestion--it is amazing!

Eau des Merveilles by Hermes (not just for women...)
At The Beach 19667 by CB I Hate Perfume (Robbie loves this one...)

Erolfa
Beth Terry's Mare
Aqua Motu
Bahiana

Now I've got to re-try Maestrale. It didn't make much of impression the first time out, but you never know...

Laguna PH by Dali has a tropical coconut beach aquatic vibe to it.

It seems so mudane to write this knowing that some niche brands may actually smell exactly like salt water rather than hint at it, but I find Bulgari Aqua a beautiful interpretation of the salt air of the sea.

I just got Bulgari Aqua 3 weeks ago and I LOOOOVEEE it. It lasts quite a while too.

Aqva is good. I'm assuming Erolfa is better.

I aggree. There are times when I've thought of it as very slort lived, but lately my opinion had changed (or maybe my nose has become more sensitive) . I does stay close to the skin, but the more I wear this one the more amazed I am at its fresh, breezy beauty. Much more wearable than Mare IMO.
