Dark, smoky, and floral

Is there such a thing (dark, smoky, and floral -- in a fragrance that's wearable by men)?

I can't recall seeing anything that fits this description -- I want serious smoke, mind you. For some reason this combination really sounds good to me. I'm sure I could get it by layering, but I'd love to find a well-composed scent that puts all these elements together in an interesting way.

Love to hear your suggestions.

Try Insense by givenchy.....also Anucci for men...the latter being more wearable...

I'm looking for the same.

Check out www.perfumeposse.com and read her comments about Andy Tauer's 2 new frags coming out in January.

Incense Rose - This has the potential to hit "Dark, Smokey, & Floral"
Incense Extreme - Sounds like fun too

Black Walnut does that well, just not SO smokey as you're probably seeking.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far -- lots to try. And I remember reading that blog entry at PerfumePosse on the new Tauer fragrances: I wonder if it planted a subliminal desire in me for something like I've described in this thread...

Anucci -- at least to my nose -- is very, very bright. I'd try Ténéré by Paco Rabanne -- a great dark floral for men. Iquitos is very floral (rosy), but it lacks the smokiness you requested (but not lacking in darkness!). Jo Malone's Pomegranate Noir, perhaps? It seems to fit both bills, although its fruity/floral side far outweighs any smokiness. Also, it has to be worn in moderation, else it'll overpower you (esp. after its first application, as I found out).

Léonard pour Homme (a personal cold weather favorite) offers the rich, smoldering smokiness you seek (and in SPADES, at that); however, it lacks the floral qualities you asked after -- think more (to paraphrase Naed Nitram) burning autumn leaves. Truly one of the best smoky fragrances around.

Finally, there's Thé Brun by Jean-Charles Brosseau. Not floral per se, no, but SUPERB Chinese tea notes (the strongest I've ever smelled, and the truest) mixed with an incredible smokiness that you truly have to sample and savor to believe. A wonderful bargain, too, and vastly under-discussed on the board. I'd try it before Brosseau discontinues it, as is (IMHO) wont to happen with men's frags such as this.

Habanita: made for a woman, but strong enough for a man!

Rebellius: really smoky, with a champaca flower heart.

Vierges & Toreros: tuberose + smoky leather. Takes guts to wear it.

Etro Palais Jamais: smoky jasmine and tea notes. My favorite of the Etro lineup.

Zztopp had a great idea in suggesting Cabochard. I know LOTS of guys who love Cabochard, and all for good reason.
I never could pull it off -- as I can Shalimar -- but I love it. (It's also readily available and modestly priced.)

Give A Try #3 From Comme Des GarÇons.
Has An Exotic Combination Of Dry Musty Cedar With Champaca, Angelica, Freesia And Berries, Even It Could Sound Feminine, It's Quite Unisex.

I'd go with Salvador Dali PH.

Very dark and brooding, but manages to be on the sweet side. The florals are pronounced but never come off as feminine. Very underrated.

I'm surprised nobody has suggested Black Aoud or Aoud Queen Rose from the Montale line.. Those both strike me as dark florals and the oud is sort of smoky/earthy.

Tauer's "L' air du desert morocain" is certainally smoky and floral, dark I don't know, but wonderful it certainally is.

Does Czech & Speake's No. 88 fit the bill? I'm not familiar with it but based on reviews here, it sounds like you might want to seek it out and try.

I was also surprised - also check out Attar - these Montales are very heavy and dark, smokey and intense, and at the same time Rose is front and center.

I agree with Robbie - Black Oud by Montale fits your description pretty well. Expensive stuff, but its worth it and it garners lots of compliments (if you like that sort of thing).

I must disagree with the recommendations for #3 by Comme des Garcons...I love #3 and I think it is strangely floral but I don't think it's smoky enough for your specific request. Neither is Pomegranate Noir. #3 and PN are dark and floral - but not smoky to my nose.

The oud note is medicinal, sharp and rich, at least to me, and don't see the Montales being smokey or floral....maybe dark.

For smokey and dark, I'd recommend Kyoto and the John Galliano Room Spray (you can use it as a skin scnet), but they aren't floral.

I haven't smelt anything with that description yet.

Looking forward to exploring many of these recommendations.

fraddicted's suggestion of L'air du desert marocain is especially interesting to me, because that's the fragrance that sent me on this quest: to my nose, LDDM isn't very floral -- it starts tarry/smoky and settles into a beautiful amber-sandalwood base. It's dark enough, but not floral enough, to scratch the particular itch I'm feeling at the moment.

I quite like CDG 3, but I find it quite light and tangy....not at all smoky or dark.

I think Cabochard is a great suggestion...maybe Jasmin & Cigarettes or Voleur de Roses.

Citta di Kyoto, or perhaps Tauer Orris. CdK is dark iris, with a very nice incense note; TO is iris with more tar than smoke; it is dark though. Many have said the iris in TO is more like violet.

I completely disagree here. Attar is not heavy, dark, smokey nor intense. I find it somewhat light but it does have a calming effect. Hardly the intensity of any of the Montale Ouds.

Ungaro III doesn't feel that "smoky" to my nose - though its somewhat mildly dark (?) and floral.

Try l'artisan eau du navagateur or mpg's eau des iles,a bit of coffee in the mix but certainly dark ,smokey and something floral in the mix ,well at least in the l'artisan one anyway.
