Seeking a fragrance heavy on cloves and nutmeg

Can anyone recommend something with prominent nutmeg and cloves? I want something smooth and spicy for the winter. I keep getting whiffs of male scents with great nutmeg when at work etc, but don't dare to ask the wearer what it is! Grateful for any hints.

MPG's Secret Melange is fantastic clove scent. It's certainly a spicy one, but not very smooth, to be honest. It's quite edgy, even harsh; thus it might not be for you. Still, worth a try.

The_good_life will come here soon and tell you it smells like a particular urinal cake they have in Germany. I'm glad I have never encountered these urinal cakes, it's not the best of associations.

Nutmeg yes, cloves not listed & not sniffed out. - Cacharel homme and Chevalier fit the bill, but 'heavy on' I wouldn't say.
Equipage is a Classic men's with carnation, but not really warm, nor heavy. . Villoresis Garofano is: warm, soft, strong in sillage and longevity. (Some find it stuffy,
and I can see why.) Wear Garofano to the office, and the others will have to look for something else!

Diptyque L'Eau
Etro Messe de Minuit

Comme des Garçons Carnation is super rich with clove... dunno about nutmeg, but it'll definitely satiate your clove desire.

My beloved "Love Potion No:9" by Penhaligon's has a clove and nutmeg killer left hook!
Pity its bloody discontinued and almost impossible to source a bottle

Agree strongly with Cacharel Pl'H and Equipage. See also Tiffany for Men.

Halston's Catalyst.

Though these may not have cloves or nutmeg, they certainly have similar warm spices and are great choices for winter weather: L'Homme Sage, Gucci pour Homme, and Micheal by M. Kors.

L'Homme Sage by Divine nutmeg and cardamon - not cloves, but it is a warm spice opening that works so well in colder weather - offset by a tart citrus (yuzu?) contrast and incense drydown. Two other good spice scents for winter are Gucci pour Homme and Michael by Michael Kors! Both have warm spices to open the fragrance and contrast against leather and/or tobacco in the drydown with an incense or vetiver/wood finish.

Renato's right on the money with HALSTON CATALYST.

Thanks. The good thing about Catalyst (apart from being relatively inexpensive) is that it usually comes as a set with its aftershave splash, and that aftershave splash actually works properly and doesn't sting like hell as most others do.

My favourite clove scent, however, remains the oriental Ghost Man by Scannon.

For a smooth spicy clove I would go with Jacomo de Jacomo in the black bottle. It can be bought at a resonable price as well.
For a classy nutmeg I would go with Chanel Pour Monsieur Concentree.

Good luck

Jaisalmer by Comme des Garcons (Incense Series)

I also second the Garafano by Lorenzo Villoresi recommendation - carnation/clove monster...perhaps only matched by Malmaison by Floris...which has no nutmeg.

Second the catalyst (happens to be my SOTD):

Top Notes
Lavender, Sage, Citrus,

Middle Notes
Nutmeg, Clove,

Base Notes
Sandalwood, Musk,

CdG's EDP prominently features both clove and nutmeg quite prominently, and should be a "must-try" for you.

Several other clove-heavy scents include Herrera for Men and Caron's incredible Poivre.

Conversely, another nutmeg-heavy scent is Serge Lutens' Arabie, though quite possibly there is clove in this as well.

Hi Bruspotter,
I´ve just discovered the ULTIMATE clove /spice fragrance :

Donna Karan, "Black Cashmere". Don´t be put off by the fact it´s a womans fragrance.
Believe me, this stuff will put hairs on your chest !
To describe it in a nutshell, it´s just like walking into the dentists surgery. There are tonnes of cloves in this fragrance.
If you want to spice it up even more, mix it 50 / 50 with Gucci pour homme. This makes an explosive cocktail that will blow your mind and take your breath away. Although it´s not listed, I am sure Gucci pour homme also contains clove.

Frederic Malle's Noir Epices is chock full of cloves and nutmeg (among other things). It is a very sophisticated and distinctive scent, and well worth trying.
It is marketed to women but Estee Lauder's SPELLBOUND may be what you are looking for.

Also, Frederic Malle's Noir Epices is heavy on both clove and nutmeg..(my SOTD..and I LOVE IT!!) and Villoresi's Piper Nigrum which is VERY heavy on nutmeg.

Thanks to everyone for the helpful responses. I have satisfied my desire for Nutmeg by investing in Cacharel pour l'homme. It is just what I have been looking for. Thanks again.

You may want to try Caron's Coup de Fouet (the EDT Poivre) for clove.

Diptyque's Eau Lente: SO much clove, quite a bit of cinnamon, and a little nutmeg in there, along with many other spices.
Heeley's Esprit du Tigre!!
+1 for Dyptique's L'eau
For me that speaks of: Ignis by O.S.
clove - Jacomo de Jacomo (black)
nutmeg - Cacharel pour L´Homme

but I can´t think of any that has got both of them in a really distinct portion...maybe I am an perfume-illiterate
post #36 of 37
Many Bay Rum renditions contain that combo.
