Designer Type Fragrance Oils

So, I was walking Melrose a couple months ago and came across this smoke shop. I had just quit smoking and was thinking about herbal cigarettes, so I went inside. In the back, there was a rack of bottles, maybe 75, each marked with names of famous fragrances. From Obsession and Shalimar to DK Men and Havana, they had dozens, many of which are now discontinued.

I have since picked up a couple. I couldn't resist the Donna Karan as it is one of my favorites. I have been recently wearing the Havana, as the real stuff isn't really in my budget. The Donna Karan isn't far from the original, certainly close enough to warrant the $8 for the roll-on.

Has anyone else come across these? What's your experience?

I tried some designer type fragrance oils several times in the past and was disappointed. The ones I tried had a similar smell to the original at the top, but lacked the depth of the originals. I suspect they do not include the same amount/quality of ingredients - they attempt to smell like the original but not an exact duplicate. If one never smelled the original, it would be difficult to compare. However, one may still enjoy these scents on their own merits.

The bottom line may be - if you like the way they smell, then go for it.
