Well, my dad's 1998 Subaru Legacy with over 110,000 miles might be giving up the ghost a wee bit sooner than I thought due to motor oil leakage.
Since we live in Fort Wayne (where winters can be quite snowy), he would like a reasonably-priced (under $30,000 US) vehicle with all-wheel-drive, but with good gas mileage (at least 16 mpg city/22 highway). But one problem complicates the situation: me, the backseat driver. I'm 6' 5", and I have a hard time fitting in the back seat of many vehicles. This rules out many very good AWD vehicles like the Toyota RAV4, Nissan Rogue, Saturn Vue, and Ford Escape (as you can tell, there's no brand loyalty to any particular automaker in this household).
Hence, I've narrowed down the list to five vehicles due to their fuel economy and "backseat driver" room:
Domestics:
(my dad's not a Chrysler fan, so no Chrysler products... even though he briefly worked at Chrysler in the 1970s)
Imports:
*Note: May be built in Suzuka, Japan; East Liberty, Ohio, USA; or Mexico
Chances are that we'll be going for test-drives soon... so could you help us narrow down the list further? Every little bit of help would be greatly appreciated.
(NOTE: I already eliminated the Ford Edge and Hyundai Veracruz because they missed the city fuel economy needs by 1 mpg. Missed it by that much...)
