Kingdom by A. McQueen: What's the Big Deal?

Very pleasant, lemony floral with just a touch of cumin.

Where's the sweaty vagina smell everyone keeps talking about? The dirty crotch stank of renown?
All I get here is a pleasant floral that has already gotten me a couple of compliments today.

It's weird. I didn't think it was all that disgusting at first when I got my bottle. I just thought "hmmm. kind of smells like an older slutty woman. Not awful though."

But I broke it out at a few parties and most people were revolted by it.

I never got the BO thing with Eau d'Hermes either. Until the other day I had to go to a store and buy something and the sales guy smelled really funky (it wasn't cologne) and I realized it smelled a bit like Eau d'Hermes. Now the very thought of Eau d"Hermes turns my stomach.

Kingdom EDP

T: Bergamot, Mandarin, Neroli
M: Jasmine, Rose, Cumin, Pink Pepper, Ginger
B: Sandalwood, Copahu Balsam, Vanilla, Myrrh, Musk

It's actually a woody oriental. I haven't tried the EDT but the base of the EDP is strongly woody oriental. There's a lot of cumin the EDP. I've never associated cumin with dirty vaginas, b.o. etc, but many people do, esp. women.

It smells great. Love to smell it on women but my girlfriend doesn't like to wear it. I like to wear it but the base of the EDP can get a little tedious. When I wear it my girlfriend always says how good it smells.

The thing about Kingdom is, if you want it to smell weird it can, and if you want it to think of it as a rich spicy floral, it can be that as well. For me, it's all about where your mind is when you sniff.
I bumped up an old thread on the Female broads a couple of days ago, wanting to know a bit of more info of the difference between the EDT & EDP. Can anyone help out?

Also, I think it just has to do with skin chemistry, the cumin note lasts until the drydown on skin...when it suppose to vanish by then.

I have the same reaction with Kiehl's. I can convince myself that it doesn't smell dirty and uncleanly, but most people I've asked about it can't. I know a lot of people with picky noses I guess.

I love Kingdom. It certainly doesn't smell like unwashed female body parts to me but on the other hand if that is what other people are picking up on me I sure don't want to go around smelling like it. I may have to limit this one to around the house.

It's all about skin chemistry.

This cumin in Kingdom sours on my skin and when it does, it smells just like....well, you know. My BF hates it when I wear it, so I never wear this around him. Honestly, I rarely wear it...but it fascinates me. I'd love to smell the EdP.

I love Kingdom. Works for me. The cumin gives the scent an edge that works very well with the jasmine in the heart. Spicy, wicked fun in a bottle.

Funny that this thread is happening because I have a review of Kingdom coming out on Monday's Perfume-Smellin' Things where I of course rave about it. I have the Edp and love it's skanky goodness. I personally don't understand the body secretions associations that people often mention. This is one beautiful spicy oriental! it has fantastic silage and great longevity. It can still be had for cheap on Ebay. Sure, the cumin smells a lot like sweat but who cares? Sweat is a far cry from a woman's privates....

I still can't fathom why - with the hundreds of really good men's scents around - any guy would want to wear this women's scent? It's not bad on a woman, but says zero on a man.

I bought it for my wife.

I received a sample with my recent sales forum purchase. After all the mentions here I promptly slapped some on my wrist. I did not smell any vag. I thought it was a nice frag that I'd like to smell on a lady. I could probably pull it off but meh, no interest in trying.

Compare it side-to-side with SL Ambre Sultan, see which woman's privates smell better

We should re-name this thread the Vagina Dialogues!
I had a bottle of Kingdom. All the "Emperor's New Clothes" hysteria convinced me that it did indeed smell like a old whore's unwashed private parts. I brought it with me to work and let a buyer from a very trendy NY boutique, that sells McQueen's clothing, smell it and I asked him what he thought. He said, "powdery, nothing too interesting." I told him about its reputation and he gave me a puzzled look. At that moment the bubble in my mind burst. He was right, no big woop dirty hole.

The thing about Kingdom, is that it is a scent with staggering contrasts... one likes to seek out the fresh, sparkling notes at its heart, but first must dodge the hardcore cumin/musky notes.

ON THE WHOLE, when handed a blotter, this still smells as if the hard-working SA with her brow slicked with sweat, has been holding the cards under her arm all day. No crotches in sight (in fact, if I came across a crotch that smelled like that, Id run you a 4-minute mile).

I can appreciate it for its delightful AND repugnant accords, but its just not a winner, to my mind.

When it was launched I received several samples and passed them all on after having the same experience on each test-drive: first the most - ahem - ripe armpits ever (and this is an understatement), then a whiff of rose water, then - nothing. Gone, gone, gone.

I've not understood the body odor comments on Kindom. I don't get that at all, and I don't get that from cumin scents or even smelling cumin spice straight. Perhaps my opinion isn't one to respect for that reason, but on me Kingdom is a fantastic thick rose over sandalwood and musk, with just a crescent of cumin on it that fades but is a fantastic contrast to the thick depth of the other ingredients. On me the scent stays very close--oh yeah, and I have the edp and am talking only about that--stays dense and rich, and lasts a long time. It smells aristocratic to me, even, and like something only a person who knows scents would know to pick up.

This is pretty much how I experience Kingdom as well.

I'm kind of with you on that. I think cumin = tacos. and I don't equate tacos with armpits-- of course, I don't really know what armpits necessarily smell like. Mine only smell bad occasionally (at least to my knowledge) because I shower often and wear long lasting deodorant-- and even then they don't smell like cumin, maybe something like blackcurrant mixed with coffee. Of course I guess people are different. Sometimes when I go to the gym with a buddy from work, he smells a bit funky, like cumin I guess. Also, I let some girls sniff cumin oil and they said "armpits."

Also, I REALLY hope no offense is taken by the following-- you know I don't mean it from a bad place, but I do find it curious to hear gay guys talking about what does and doesn't smell like vagina. It just sounds a bit intriguing... Just one of those things that make you go hmmm.

I have all 4 versions (Parfum, EDP, EDT and Summer EDT) and my favourite is the EDP, I can't smell any form of unwashed vaginas, however I can associate it with a sweaty skin smell, although I don't find it in anyway unpleasant. The Parfum I never wear as the cumin is so strong it's almost like spraying on curry. I just like it for the bottle. The EDT is the EDP but with all the things that make it interesting taken out.

Oh and I agree with Indie_Guy. Seeing as I am a gay, I don't have the foggiest idea of what a clean Vagina smells like, let a lone a dirty one. Sometimes Im not even sure what they look like :S

If you ever use public transport in a rush hour and get squeezed among a bunch of grungy people who a) haven't washed for some time, b) wear man-made fabrics, c) have at least one hand up, you'll learn.

Chrissy Boy, I might not know anything about scents, but I know what I like.

What is it that cumin smells of sweaty armpits ? whose sweaty armpits? puzzled me for months then the penny dropped it seemed to be mostly American contributers and i do believe though never having visited there that the following equation might have something to do with it .
Taxi Driver+Hot Weather+Choice of Cuisine+Soap Dodging = Cumin perceived as sweaty armpit . Anyone care to enlighten me if i'm barking up the wrong tree here?

Kingdom + Fall/Winter Weather = Perfection

I too get TONS of compliments when I wear this during the Fall/Winter season and the longevity is fantastic; in fact, I only spray once and that is all I need.

The scent is a woodsy oriental so it will definently get you attention for being not a usual scent; then again, McQueen clothing is art not clothing.

I'm neither American nor have ever been across the Atlantic, but your equation is pretty accurate.

Loads of garlic, beer and "very dangerous" cigarettes is a pretty good recipe.
