Drakkar Noir drydown alternatives???

OK folks don't burn me at the take yet... I am pretty new to bassnotes and I am on an obsessive mission to build a fragrances wardrobe that is unique and special for me. I have found several staple scents so far (London, Helmut Curion, Rochas Man, Dior Fahrenheit to name a few) but my recent obsession is to find a dark mossy amber like drydown that is like Drakkar Noir but without the chemical burn and nasty opening top notes.

I like some of you wore Drakkar in like 7th - 10th grade and can not wear it now without feeling like a kid. I tried wearing it a few years back and got a ton of compliments and "what are you wearing?" (in a he sexy) type way from the ladies but... again I just can't get past the chemical top note and the overly citrus rush in the smell. That mixed with the "dated" scent reminder makes it a no go.

The drydown does do awesome things on my skin though and I have yet to find an alternative that does the same. I am not sure if it is the oakmoss, the lavender or the patchouli that does it but I need advice.

So any suggestions for dark warm fragrance with a Drakkar esque drydown?

Thanks!

I always thought Drakkar Noir smelt similar to Ulrich Lang's Anvers....some mentioned the similarities as well, while others also didn't see it either....so I'm not sure if I could recommend it, but it's always worth a try.

More Info: (also there's also an Anvers 2...just some caution so you don't mix them up)

I agree with that. Definitely try it. I think it's made by Houbigant.

Also, try Amber & Lavender Cologne by Jo Malone. Not quite the same, but if you liked Drakkar Noir, you might find this to be a potential favorite.

I tried the Ungaro III not bad but it did not mate well with my skin haha. Got too floral/powder and not dark enough. I love it as a scent though just not on me.

Thanks for tips people keep them comig!

I believe I remember two recent designer fragrances that smelled like Drakkar as well;

Atman, by Phat Pharm, and Lucky no. 6 by Lucky Jeans.

Can't really vouch for the drydowns, though.

I have or have had bottles of Anvers, Preferred Stock, & Ungaro 3...the scent you are looking for is Gucci Nobile - very similar to DN without the loud opening.

Best regards,
Mike

I agree with Duc de Vervins and would add La Perla's Grigio Perla.
