Azzaro Onyx or YSL Rive Gauche ?

There have been comparisons of one with the other, so I ask : Which one is better in terms of quality and usability ? I am looking for one I can use very regularly and I know Rive gauche is said to have that musty library smell though the Barbasol Shaving Cream comparison gives me hope that I can give the Rive gauche more utility. I tested out the top notes of Onyx and they seemes very sparkling sweet heady but just thinking if that will get annoying very soon.
On the other hand Rive Gauche seems to be on many swap lists.. hmmm...

Rive Gauche -- I find it far more complex and far sexier than Onyx.

My vote is for Onyx. I would probably get annoyed with it if I overapplied or used it on a very frequent basis. However, it feels like a more modern and immature fragrance to me compared to RG.. which suits me better.

I would prefer Onyx. The other one is a bit too much for my taste.
(off: that guitar is of Pat Metheny?)

Where's the RG fanclub? I think RG is ultimately the classier composition - but personally I can't stand the clove note. Onyx, on the other hand, I find to be one of the more interesting recent designer scents, it has a personality of its own (more in the top notes than the bottom of course). So that would be my choice. You may also want to check out CSP Barbier des Iles, which I find to be the better Rive Gauche (it's dry as hell though). And as a barbershop scent, nothing beats Vetiver Hombre by Dominguez in my book (but here we're talking sparkling fresh, a whole different creature than all the others).

Did someone say 'Rive Gauche Fan Club'! ((rushing in))

Rive Gauche for sure. I don't like Onyx.

I have to say Onyx but it has to be used very carefully for its a very full body scent with great sillage.

Rive Gauche is good on the opening but much more less on the sillage.

Rive Gauche by a mile. Onyx is good, but RG just keeps growing on you.

In terms of sillage and longevity, Silver Black is far better. But I find RG more wearable as it's less tense than SB.

P.S. No Onyx here but Silver Black, guess the juice is the same.

Their characters are very different, so I'd recommend you giving them a try, and find the one which suit your preferences better.
I've tried them and my choice was "Rive Gauche". I don't know why, but ONYX (or Silver Black) is very reminiscent of original Azzaro pour homme for me. Which is not bad, but I preferred original...

Onyx gets my vote.
