Basenotes moments over the ages...

Thread Starter
I remember...

1. Geir frenzy (Teflondog started this?)
2. Timberwolf and her poetic guess-the-scent games (w/ prizes!)
3. Basenotes' server transition (July/August 2005)
Here's a few more:

4: My search for the official Gaultier² US release date, keeping track of the constant delays that had me in a tizzy (January-September 2006)
5: A few Basenoters selling Editions de Parfums Frederic Malle samples for profit when the company gave them for free
6: The other Basenotes server transition (July-August 2007)

Surely Montale-sale mania belongs on this list.

Serpent's infamous Terre de Hermes thread

All the "scents that chics dig" threads

All the "old man" and "gay fragrances" threads

The devilishly avatared CoTHukoB and his rather well timed and previously hinted at disappearance from the Forums after exactly 666 posts...

You hit on all my favorites KO! You must like cologne!

EDIT: gotta add the tales of Indie_Guy's escapades and his sublime, cinematic koans describing scents (his bit about TdH being a cold stone in a misty neorealist war film is such a brilliant companion piece to Serpent's characteristically venomous anti-TdH screed). Some day a literary agent is going to find this board, track Indie_Guy down and walk into his restaurant with a book deal in hand.

I enjoyed CoTH's posts as well, but did anyone else ever suspect him of being a very smart, well read 14 year old? Sorry, I'm a cynic.

The current Aramis 900 thread is quite the thread.

I agree but it seems to have cooled a bit. Full moon's, droughts and the climate of fear that conservatives have draped over the world have added to tensions on this planet like nobody's business.

I will underline American colloquialisms from now on.

The 50ml L'Air du désert marocain bottle replacing the 100ml bottle for the same price.

That it is.
Its exactly this kind of rubbish and public flexing of male egos that I regard with disgust and hatred here.
Unfortunately, everyone has to be a freakin' "expert"... and I don't mean just about fragrance.

Ive only been here since April but here are a couple more recent "milestones"...

* Supermarky's 'permanent' departure(s)
* One user's psychotic girlfriend hijacking their profile to pass bigoted comment.
* The arrival, and untimely departure of our good friend Suds, and the impact she made on a large number of us.

I must say it seems quite extraordinarily rude to be commenting on a current matter in this thread. It is a thread about past matters precisely so that it does not hurt people's feelings.

I would like to point out, that I am entitled to comment on mattybumpkin's post whether it pleases you or not. Following your involvement in the "Aramis 900" thread, your public attempt to intimidate or berate me only make you a laughing stock.

I have contributed to the topic at hand, so for as long as you're NOT being bestowed with "Moderator" status, I will damn-well comment about matters, (past or present) in any way I see fit.

Cheers fella,
Dimi.

Gee I'm glad that with time, everyone has forgotten my most infamous moment (which dwarfed everyone else's infamous moment).

Non-the-less, when thinking of other amusing moments, I always remember Mando's unbounded enthusiasm for the scent had captivated him that particular week. He would reply to every thread asking for advice with that particular scent and no other, regardless of what was being asked, since all other scents were totally worthless. One certainly got the urge to go check out that scent!

Lol Renato... that may have been before my time here!
Now you MUST remind me... what was it?
C'moooooon, you can humiliate yourself again in front of me... for "old times sake!"

Fortunately, it was about two boards ago - where we used to be able to post via email - and that accidental post has hopefully disappeared into the ether.

C'mooooon, I need specifics!
We have at least a few more minutes to kill until another cleverly-crafted post appears in this thread! Do tell...

Well then, lets talk about your completely embarrassing plunge into this forum.

In May, barely six weeks after youd joined, you announced on The_Good_Lifes Eurovision thread, here:

Eurovision thread

against his right to have an opinion on the undeservedness of the Serbian win. In fact you claimed, in stunningly insulting fashion, that `Opinions are like ass-holes everyones got one. So you, a comparative newcomer, argued that he, a professional musician, was not entitled to think what he thought about the Serbian win he had to agree with you that it was deserved! Look at MysteriousMongooses response to your continually insulting tone there; look at the-good-lifes attempt to be the soul of moderation and politeness against your determination to shout him down.

My own response to all this was: who the hell is this arrogant, nasty jerk? And sure enough the impression that that is really all you were was born out in pretty much every post. In fact the phrase strutting male ego has come to mind more than once. (So your "public flexing of male egos that I regard with disgust and hatred here" is quite hilarious given that that is pretty much all I've seen!)

But do you know what I did on that Eurovision thread, and I did it deliberately?: I changed the subject slightly so that you did not go on insisting in that boorish fashion that you were right.

In other words, I had your back. And, as I have been so often here: I was the peacemaker. I helped you out of your situation.

My point is that many people have bad moments in this forum. Just make sure that you are without sin if your going to go about casting stones.

You got that buddy?

Sorry "Fella".

Unlike now, once posted, the post couldn't be edited or removed.

That post was so bad that a complaint was made against me to Yahoo to have it removed.

I know this for a fact, as I lodged the complaint.

But someone at Yahoo decided it would be more fun to leave it there and watch me stew.

Crikey! That bad huh?

Well, I will just have to imagine some gruesome scenarios of my own. *mind boggles*

That's alright Renato-- that entertaining post (while not meant for our eyes) did nothing but even raise my opinion of you even more! You devil you.

I remember when I joined Basenotes - I thought it was funny how excited all of the supporting members got about large sized avatars. Just a little thing like this caused a ripple of excitement...I remember thinking to myself, these people are nuts.

Now of course, I am just as nuts myself.

- I'll never forget that one ! But it was interesting, and I learned a lot from it.
- 'males wearing female fragrances' thread in early 2006, and the fight over statistics (!!) (18 months, 222 posts > 2000 visits !)
- And of course 100 attempts to introduce newbies and innocents to 'Nessie', the piss note in Kouros! That made me select Kouros as pride-avatar !
- free sample offers to encourage members to change their status (2006). Maybe that was stopped when sample sales became a little suspect ?
- Tauer price policy was a big topic on several boards this January. Actually.... time is up again?
(..wonders what Dr.Creed may have said, and marches to the archives)

Hi Guys,
Yes - well - uhmm - I can kind of not cringe about it now - especially since I got married to someone else.

Getting back to the main topic, I wore 212 Men the other day. I cannot wear this scent without automatically thinking of Jeffrey P's famous couple of hundred (or was it thousand) posts praising every single attribute and trait of this scent. I think he had a point though.
