How does your wardrobe compare to the top 100 reviewed fragrances?

Thread Starter
On the right-hand column of the Review Centre is a list of the 100 most reviewed fragrances.

How many of them do you own?
[my answer is in brackets]

In the top 25? [10]

In the top 50? [19]

In the top 100? [32]

What percentage of your wardrobe is in the top 100? [30%]

Interesting! In the first days of my acquaitance to basenotes, the list of top 100 reviwed fragrances was a kind of guide for me to know if a main stream product has the value for paying attention to it or not!!! This list show-in some ways- the amount of attention a scent captured from perfume lovers.

Lets not forget that the top 100 reviewed fragrances dont necessarily demonstrate the "most popular" scents... just those that compel users to review them.

I have contributed to the popularity (or notoriety) of some scents in the list by writing reviews of those I feel are HORRENDOUS. The good, the bad and the ugly appear there in that "100 most reviewed".

So, theres not a lemming among us!

Darn few! My tastes are a bit "exotic," shall we say, and I like to keep my wardrobe limited. Of the 35 bottles I keep:

Top 25 [1]
Top 50 [2 more]
Top 100 [1 more]

Let's see, that makes a whopping 11%

I have never considered my wardrobe in this sense before.

Top 25 - 5 (GIT, Vetiver, Dior Homme, Terre d'Hermes, Rive Gauche PH)
Top 50 - 11(5 above + Brit, Habit Rouge, Bois du Portugal, Egoiste, Voleur de Roses, Mitsouko)
Top 100 - 18(11 above + Tabarome Millesime, Cuiron, Chanel PM, L'Instant, Givenchy Gentleman, Caron PUH, Geir)

Approximately 20% of my wardrobe.

Top 25 - 1 (M7 - because of this site in fact!)
26 - 50 - 0
51 - 100 - 1 (John Varvatos - and mine's a fake with Hugo Dark Blue in it..probably doesn't count!).

I think if more people smelled Royal Briar, 1776, or Chevignon, they'd be in that list!

Wow.

I have 17 of the top 25

28 out of the top 50

Roughly half of my wardrobe is in the top 100.

as Dmitri said a lot of the reviews are not positive. They've just been reviewed a lot. Take Guerlain's Vetiver — I bet the reviews split 50/50 and people are buying it because it's the first thing thay look at when they get to Basenotes.

They're also the same fragrances that were there when I joined over a year ago. It's a viscous circle.

Take Kouros as an example, 28 reviews out of 100 were thumbs down and there were quite a few neutrals. Not enough for me to fire up the Harley and go screaming through red lights. Nope

I have 18 out of 100

Top 25: 6
Top 50: 10
Top 100: 14

Total percentage: 48%

What does that say about me? Not really sure other than I obviously don't know a lot of the "niche" fragrances yet. I just bought a dozen or so samples of some frags I couldn't find around here at Macy's or Dillard's, so I am giving it a shot!! :-)

About 25% of my wardrobe. I've tried most of the list, and have no plans to buy anything else that's currently on it. And one time, I might've owned a lot more, but I've got rid of things I don't wear much.
