Good scents for the Tropics

Hi all, my first post here. Well since I'm in South East Asia, naturally I 'm wondering what type of fragrance is good for the hot humid weather conditions. Obviously the fresh, citrus or aquatics would be a safe choice and so what are some of your recommendations for these? However, I really dig the orientals and gourmands so I'm wondering if anyone has tried them on. What fragrances did you try on and how did you feel about them?

Scents I've tried, and did not seem to be too off-putting to me:
Elements Aqua
Givenchy pour Homme
Tommy T
Cool Water
and that's it. Pathetic and very 'mass consumer-like', I know. Thoughts?

Bvlgari au the blanc, Bvlgari Homme, Bvlgari Extréme, Laguna Homme, Lacoste Booster, Malle French Lover, Guerlain Vetiver. These are some of the ones I've worn in really hot humid conditions.

It's always hot and humid here in Miami - today it's in the low 80's, sun is shining.

Scents that came to mind instantly are:

Virgin Island Water by Creed
Azuree Soleil Eau Fraiche by Estee Lauder (Tom Ford)
Terre de Hermes by Hermes
Bahiana by MPG

I have tried these on vacations in the tropics and they have all worked out wonderfully there:

Givenchy's Very Irresistible Fresh Attitude.
Guerlain's AA Mentafollia
Aramis's Bermuda Tonic
CKone summer 2004

and i have to second all of mike's recs too. They all work great under beachy, hot weather.

I'm also gonna keep an eye out for everyone's choices as listed so far. The Guerlain L'instant I have sniffed before and thought it wouldn't work, so now I'm piqued. Thanks again and keep it coming peeps.

After re-reading... I should have seconded Terre D'Hermes..

I find that By Man works well in the heat, because the animalistic notes that often remain subtle in the cold seem to heave, breathe.. come alive..

In terms of L'instant.. I discovered it's summer glow quite by accident... and was surprised how well the warmth reacted with it...

L'eau Par Kenzo is one of the more refreshing fragrances I've used... lemony, watery, revitalizing.. non-offensive.. it's an aquatic fragrance done right (IMHO)

Eau de Rochas pour Homme, Monsieur Balmain, Signoricci ( wonderful creamy citrus), L'Artisan's "The pour un ete" are all wonderful warm muggy weather frags. The aforementioned Havana is surprisingly good in these conditions as well. I've found "R" de Capucci to work well also and the wonderful "The Dreamer" can work.Also want to recommend Mugler Cologne.

Hmm, I was just wondering, as a rule, can gourmand fragrances (Rochas Man, Lempicka au Masculin, Givenchy Pi, Hanae Mori etc) work in humid conditions? Anyone tried and tested any warm foody-type scents?

I third or fourth Virgin Island Water, but also try L'Artisan Ananas Fizz, Creed Millesime Imperial, Montale Sandflower, YSL Live Jazz, and Bond No. 9 Fire Island.

I was in Dubai in the middle of summer this year and took with me Trumper's GFT. It was wonderfully refreshing amidst the high temperatures and humidity.

If a gourmand has a 'dry' texture to it, it works for me in humid temperatures.

An affordable option is Vanilla Grapefruit by Lavanila (but you have to like grapefruit and sweet scents to handle this) - I actually wear VG out in my backyard when I get sun, I think the heat makes the notes even tarter and foody than normally.

A more expensive option is Borneo 1834 by Serge Lutens (dry as a bone and quite possibly my favorite chocolate note in existence).

My immediate thought was something from the Comptoir Sud Pacifique range. Perhaps Aqua Motu for an ozonic/oceanic blast, or L'eau de Gouverneur for something more robust.

Mugler's Cologne is also a must for the hot climates.

I'm going to throw Erolfa by Creed into the mix, although sweating might decrease it's longevity even more than normal for a creed.

On me, I've found the following have served me well in the heat:
Issey Miyake and Blue by Issey
Havana
Montana
Fluer de Tabac by Miller Harris
Bvlgari Aqua
Kenzo Pour Homme
Allure Sport
Guerlains Vetiver

The greenest scent I know, without any notes that could be cloying, disturbing, yet very natural and refreshing: Sisley Eau de Campagne. For the tropics simply ideal. Marketed as unisex, but any man can wear it, and there is an after shave in the range, too.
