Sleazy scent?

Thread Starter
Note: this is not a "Worst scent" thread or an excuse to bash those fragrances you don't like. You might very much like these, you might not, but I'm looking for a certain vibe.

Ok, what scents just come off as sleazy? Sexy, dirty, but not in a particularly good way. I'm talking David Johansson or maybe Mickey Rourke (later years). Both are very cool, but...

For me, the first that comes to mind would have to be Paul Sebastain (PS). This one reminds me of the leather jacket wearing guy who might just have mafia ties, or who might just be in the porno industry (behind the camera). He always smells of booze and cigarettes (but in a good way) and you do like him, but you've always kept a safe distance.

Any scents come off to you as sleazy?

Smaltou, yes-Francesco Smaltou

Derrick by Orlane .... sleazy sums it up nicely and perhaps very cheap in your part of the world too .

Eau d'Hermes
Mechant Loup
Nuit Noir
Azurée Soleil Eau Fraiche Skinscent
Skin scents are sleazy, understand?

Cacharel pour homme is very Rourke for me - from 9 1/2 weeks up to Sin City

Dolce & Gabbana - By Man...there is something very trashy about way the lavender is done here - I like

MKK, I think is officially listed as bottled sleaze.

Tabac Original
Halston Z-14

both walk the line between repsectable and sleaze

Definitely MKK and McQueen's Kingdom!

Kingdom, Kouros (Orange Spice to a lesser extent), Musc Ravageur and (worst/best of all) Monsieur Musk.
Ever since I read Mochi227's review of Comme des Garcons 2 MAN, I have not been able to shake her picture of "a sickly man with a latex fetish sweating it out during a session in the basement." The review cracks me up actually, and I love this fragrance, but it does have a kind of funny perversion about it. Also Kouros, though beautiful, has a certain element of sleaze about it... Like a guy bravoing up to the bar and sliding in next to a woman he's had his sights on all night.
I agree with the above Kingdom by Alexander McQueen recommendations (my sotd actually). I will add: Cumming by Alan Cumming.
Sorry for the hijack- what does MKK stand for? I've tried searching, but it's driving me nuts!
A couple of days ago I just had to sample Tabac (after reading the (mostly positive) reviews here on Basenotes). It smelled really sleazy, just like old winos do.

MKK is Muscs Koublai Khan by Serge Lutens

This is a really great list!

Gendarme - more like an ideal image than their true persona.

Korous. As I've said before, it smells like gettin' nasty in the men's room.

Opium, M7, Basala, Fleur du Male and actually others from JPG, Lolita Lempicka
post #26 of 59
Brute...makes me think of nasty, dirty old men.

MKK is definately down and dirty sexy, but not sleezy, IMO. I hunted the mall for Korous today, and I just bought a bottle of Kingdom blind!...LOL! So that's the kind of girl I am...Give me scents that smell like sex: I don't think they're sleezy.

I imagine that someone sleezy would wear cheap perfume, or too much of a popular or classic perfume.

My first thought was that someone sleazy would wear something cheap or wear way too much of something bad as well.
That said, it seems like cumin is something most equate with "dirty".

I love the sexy/sensual scents as well and think them different from sleazy and dirty smells.

Red for Men - (Giorgio Beverly Hills) is the sleaziest scent I know. Kouros might smell to some (ok, most) like BO on the top, but it does dry down to something sublime and pure. Red for Men's dirty, sweaty, funk accord just below the initial sickly sweet blast, smells exactly like the kind of cologne a sex maniac would use in place of a bath and a fresh pair of underpants.

Now, boys, play nice. We don't know for certain if Senator Craig had Kouros on that day or not. (Though I bet the old closet case DID.)
Quorum by Puig.....that cumin note hints at something nasty underneath...a bad boy power scent from the 80's.
Jovan Sex Appeal....makes me think of guys with mega chest hair, chains, and polyester leisure suits, "wild and crazy guys" out on the town gettin' ready to "DO THE HUSTLE!!!"

Drakkar Noir - A real Sleaze Bag
I find Ambre Sultan to ge a sort of sleazy (that's good), sexy, dirty scent. Very hot.
Think of Habanita (Molinard). The inherent feminine dimension makes it a bit sleazy.
Trumper's Sandalwood and Gendarme sleazy? I get MKK and Kouros, kinda, but...Gendarme?
Creed Cuir De Russie smells like rubber and gasoline at times and Mick Jagger wears it. Creed Cypres Musc smells like a cat pissing on a pine bush and Errol Flynn wore it. I have worn both and can attest to this.

I agree, I always get a "chlorine" note from it that reminds me of too many encounters with sleazy men. I'll put Davidoff "Cool Water" in the same category. I guess pretty much all the big 80's fougere's are associated with sleazy men IMHO.

Morning!.
Kingdom and vierges et toreros would be my choice...

Agree with many, especially - Cumming and MKK. But, oh yes - Alexander McQueen Kingdom it is . . . Sleeeezee !

Kingdom and Kouros definitely.

to state the obvious: i don't believe any scents are inherently sleazy. it is their wearer(s) that give them that quality.

that said, really loud scents that lack subtlety and 80s powerhouse scents are generally safe candidates since they tend to attract a certain type of wearer. these criteria are amplified for men in the 2000's who insist on wearing 80s scents in overly strong doses.

so, in that vein, my votes are for:

- Boss #1 (originally a fine scent, but now indelibly sleazy when worn today)
- the original paco rabanne (see above)
- quorum
- halston catalyst (this one evokes images of guys loafing around in cheap bars and malls in middle america... and the smell, with its sulfurous, chemical assault is naturally offensive to boot)

i can't bring myself to vote for kouros even though it is loud, from the 80s, and still worn by cheeseball flirtatious paunchy middle-aged men, because it is a personal favorite!

Amen, Giorgio smells like pure sex. Something about it makes me crazy, almost like in heat. Even as a child, when I smelled it on a man it would make me weak.

Memories of Aramis always flash me back to my brother bathing in it before he hit the disco to score with the hot babes of the day on the dance floor. I just smelled MKK from a sample---It does wreak of sex! I gotta have it.

Jade East seems to bring back memories of sleeze from a heavy smoking neighbor at a Christmas party wearing a plaid suite, making loud and tawdry jokes in front of everyone. circa 1970?

I totally agree. I have a sample of MKK - and on me it smells like a more refined Kiehl's Musk.

However.

On. My. Wife. ---->

Musky, Dirty Panties. (Musk & Cumin in there I think)
Sleaze in a bottle.
Nothing reticent about THAT one.

Good point. As clothes often DO make the man/woman (or at least our impression of him/her), so do scents...though that does not rule out the wearer's personality. And so it makes sense that bolder, brasher frags would tend to be worn by - and likely also to attract - people for whom subtlety, restraint, decency and /or taste are not key qualities. I'm painting with a broad brush to some degree, but such has been my experience too.

Other members of the loud-and-proud bunch - all of which I like but could potentially be red flags on others' radars:

Bijan Men
Azzaro PH
Jacomo de Jacomo
Lagerfeld Classic
Kouros (it bears repeating)
Quorum
Aramis
Pino Silvestre
Halston 1-12
Halston Z-14
Fahrenheit
Royal Copenhagen Musk
Francesco Smalto PH
Oscar De La Renta Pour Lui
Old Spice
Aqua Velva
Pinaud Clubman
Canoe
Pinaud Virgin Island Bay Rum (in fact, most bay rums though I'm still a fan)

Call me crazy, but I think Zino by Davidoff is both sleazy & gentlemanly at the same time... (If that makes any sense....)

I understand. I think Hugo Boss number One has this same quality.

What a fun thread!

Ungaro III has a nice sleaze factor.

Must be the Civet.

Sleazy?

La Nuit:Old dried semen saturated sheets in a sleazy motel, where a whore dowsed herself in massive amounts of Avon!

Kama-X: Such an animal! I love it!

Secretions Magnifiques: Nasty!!! I'll pass on this one. It's too much saliva.

Charogne: Stinky sleaze! Maybe it's me, but I never remembered seeing "smegma" as one of the notes.
Nasty and compelling at the same time, if not a little bit "cheesy".

Steve

Trussardi Uomo conjures up the image of "the man in the leather jacket" described by Nicolas V in the original post.

M7, Rochas Man, or Musc Ravageur all work in the stripclub or whorehouse, holla

Wow, a little worried that I see a fair bit of my favorite scents getting mentioned here

Cool spell here, broke out Dior's Jules for the occasion. The perfect scent to wear to dark alleys the world over.
