Most satisifying purchase of 2007

I hope it's not too early to post this, as I guess some purchases can still be made in 2007 . Yet, I doubt one would have enough time to determine if it was their most satisfying purchase of 2007 (though I suppose one could update their post!). For me, satisfying means the one (or more) scents that you were the most happiest with despite the cost. Yes, cost comes into I guess, but in purest sense, which one were you the happiest with?

For me:

1. Carthusia Uomo (a blind buy based on Dmitri's review! Thanks Dimitri!)
2. Terre d'Hermes. I had put off buying this until some months ago. Sorry that I waited so long!

And while it was only a sample (so not truly a purchase!) - Ambre Sultan knocked my socks off... and so I predict it will be one of the candidates for most satisfying purchases of 2008!

Davidoff Relax, just received it today and love it, I think easily my best scent purchase of this year....
I don't think it's too early for this post. As far as my most satisfying purchases this year, they are as follows:

1. Versace The Dreamer (I finally found a 3.4 oz test at Scentiments, and I will buy this one again no matter what)

2. Coty Musk for Men (My favorite classic fragrance, and happily Walgreens had the holiday 2 for the price of 1 packs. I hadn't seen it in ages, and feared it was gone forever)

Silver Mountain Water

1. Chevalier d'Orsay
2. Domenico Caraceni 1913
3. Tiffany for Men

All my purchases were in 2007 (I'm new to this) but I would have to say my most satisfying (and pleasantly surprising) one was:

Carven Homme

Most Satisfying: Borneo 1834

Runner Ups: Chergui, Virgin Island Water, Oyedo, Fou d'Absinthe, Cinnamon
post #14 of 99
I'm a sucker for Opoponax, and also Amber, so of all the fragrance's I purchased this I would have to say:
1) Imperial Opoponax....Les Nereides...A steal at 60.00/ 100ML.
2) Blue Amber... Montale...Costly, but worth every penny!
1) Narciso Rodriguez for Him
2) Bvlgari Black... why did I wait so darn long to get this?
Feminitè du Bois followed closely by Black Oud.
Discovering FdB, the archetypical Lutens/Sheldrake scent, was like finding the missing opus in their Shiseido oeuvre.
Black Oud is the best evening/party scent in my collection, bar none.
Runners up: Richard James, Aimez Moi, Azurée Soleil Eau Fraiche Skinscent, Costes, Terracotta Voile d'Ete, Eau des Merveilles, Mechant Loup and Eau Lente.
2007 was a good year for my nose.
Narciso Rodgrguez for Him....

Peace,

Otto
Lalique Lion. Just knocked my socks off.
Ambre Precieux - Incredible soft amber fragrance
Creed Royal English Leather - Leather done the way it's supposed to be.
Guerlain Vetiver
Burberry London
Cuiron. It was a blind buy based on comments on BN and wow--unlike anything else I have ever smelled. My least satisfying was Van Cleef for men--a mere shadow of how I remember this smelling....
Profumi di Pantelleria MAESTRALE - immediately shot to the top of my list
post #22 of 99
1) L'Eau Diptyque
2) ETRA
Parfums de Nicolai - Cologne Sologne

I'd been considering it for a while, then got it for <$60. It's a very mannerly fragrance, I put it in the same class with AdP Colonia and Guerlain Eau Imperiale. (although it is Iris, not citrus)
I bought a lot of replacement bottles in '07...but as for scents that I had not owned previously...

Terre d'Hermes
Musc Ravageur

I had the same experience with L'eau d'Issay. I had a bottle for several years, perhaps one of the first higher quality scents I bought. However, my bottle just ran out and so I purchased another. Wow... what a difference... I don't know what happened, but "a mere shadow" is what I experienced! So, it qualifies as my least satisfying purchase this year!

Musc Ravageur... Definitely...

Serge Lutens Santal de Mysore followed closely by its gorgeous slightly older sister, Feminitè du Bois. The cumin and sandalwood in Santal de Mysore engender a meditative tranquility that I have never experienced in a fragrance. Feminitè du Bois is one of the most well blended scents I have worn and it's quickly becoming one of my all-time favorite woody scents.

I saved the best til last in 2007 - Harmatan Noir by Parfumerie Generale. Quite gorgeous.

Havana
Havana Reserva

I wonder what took me so long to get on the bandwagon with these...

Hey Schachman, Im glad you enjoed the review and like the scent!

My most satisfying purchases were Narciso For Him - my first "fougere" scent, that I simply cant imagine myself without, and my Colonia Intensa. My S.T Dupont comes a close 3rd!

I am hoping, whilst visiting Vienna over the holidays, to run into a bottle of Carthusia Uomo myself, as my sample is now dry as a bone.

Cuir Mauresque

Runners up: Montana and R&G Open
ST Barth Homme

It's a rather classic neroli-based cologne. I'm wondering where you get Iris? Wonderful stuff it sure is

As always, I cannot make up my mind. All of these satisfy me immensely:
Penhaligon's Hammam Bouquet
CdG Avignon
Patou pour homme
Il Profumo Vetiver de Java
Chevalier d'Orsay (swap)
Costes (swap)
Creed Orange Spice
Acqua di Parma Colonia

It's my SOTD and it's Serge Luten's Santal de Mysore. This is by far the most satisfying and beautifully made scent I own. Earlier this year, I had the opportunity to get a bell jar from Paris and I had no idea what to choose because I love so many of the Luten's offerings. I asked around and my friend Shannon said that without a doubt, it had to be Santal de Mysore. Well, I had never tried that one and it was a blind buy. However, I am thrilled that I took the risk. It is the most true to life sandalwood balanced perfectly with spices and accented with gourmand notes like toasted coconut and cinnamon. This is breathtaking and every time I wear it I get a compliment.

My runners up are: Aoud Lime and Black Aoud. Both long lasting with killer sillage. These were bargain basement prices from the Swiss Montale Boutique sale. God, that was stressful!
L'Instant de Guerlain Pour Homme EdP - ! (I shall be stocking up)

Black Aoud - SILLAGE, LONGEVITY, and it smells good!
Do decants count? If so, then Muscs Koublai Khan and Patou pour Homme for sure. I'd buy full bottles of these in a New York minute if they were available in the U.S.
Late in the game, that is very late in the year, but I truly love Royal Briar by Carroll & Co. Everything about it is a surprise. The quality; the wonderful scent and the story of how it was resurrected after dying an untimely death at the hands of the Atkinsons people. I am not sure how I going to deal with the fact that one of my favorites costs $25 for 4 oz., but I guess I will deal with it.
L'Homme Sage
Chene
Nuit Noire

Superb every one.

All three I would like to try myself... but maybe next year eh?

I didn't know that Hypnose was Roucel though... I need to read more!

Of the many good finds in 2007 the best have been:

Le Labo Rose 31
Domenico Caraceni 1913
Borneo 1834
MPG Santal Noble
Caron Third Man
Creed Original Vetiver
In no particular order:
Havana
Bois 1920: Agrumi Amari di Sicilia, 1920 Classic and 1920 Extreme
Diptych L'eau Trois
And on a lower level, Polo Explorer, which actually smells ok on me.
Mazzolari Lui. I had been looking for a scent with scarcely controlled earthy passion, pleasant but nearly too much, and this is it.
Lorenzo Villoresi Vetiver
L'Artisan Dzing!
L'Artisan Passage d'Enfer
Not necessarily my favorites of the year, these were the most satisfying because I grew to like them much more than expected:

Cuiron
PdN New York
MPG Ambre Precieux
