Frederic Malle is known in the industry as a "fragrance evaluator." In other words, he is the Tim Gunn of his company, working with his perfumers much the same way Gunn mentors and guides fashion designers on the reality show "Project Runway"...

The article has interesting bits, and to hear FM himself is always a joy. While some find him a little arrogant, he strikes me as being particularly modest and matter of fact. Unfortunately, Sylvia Rubin draws a somewhat distorted picture of facts in her introductory words. I never heard of any publishing house actually employing authors, or in this case, master perfumers. Independence is quite important.

I agree narcus. The man who owns the company who brought us Musc Ravageur, Vetiver Extraordinaire and Noir Epices tells a journalist that his nose is 5 on a scale of 1-10. Humble indeed.
