I will post some things I have tried and what I thought about them, and maybe someone can give me a few ideas of what to smell or look for to try when I head out to sephora and the other dept. stores...I would love some advice! Thanks
Okay, 32 y/o female w/great sense of humour..but shy unless you know me. Eclectic interests.
Okay here are some things I have tried and what I thought:
The Chanels: Have never found one I liked! They smell horrid on me.
Beautiful: Old lady
Happy: used to really like that one. Somehow it seems to not be complex enough for me anymore.
Obsession: used to love that smell. Actually I still think it smells good but it reminds me too much of high school...and seems dated.
Angel: at first hit smelled good. Then I turn into hot burned rubber w/bubble gum stuck on to me.
So Pink by Gap: smells exactly like a grapefruit at first (too much so) but then smells great on me after about 30 minutes.
Cool Water: once again used to love this. One of the few I have finished off. But not it seems too sweet after I've had it on for awhile.
Shalimar: Can't figure this out. Sometimes it smells so good to me and other times too sweet or too old ladyish. Very strange..still don't know what to think of it.
Daisy by Marc Jacobs: seems to smell so good...but like so many other frags, I wonder if once I buy it I will grow to hate it?
STella : I always gravitated to this in the store but never bought it yet. It seemed to smell really good to me. Once again I wonder if it would still smell good to me after a week of wearing it. (I tend to have a problem with that..not sure why?)
Anais Anais: used to REALLY like this one ..until yellow jackets started actually HUNTING me down and attacking. While I ran madly away from them. Now I am afraid to get it and start using it again. It was good for me to wear on an every day basis when I didn't want to offend anyone.
Pink Sugar by Aqualina: I stinking LOVE this..it smells like the fair when I first put it on, and despite being sweet it isn't nauseating sweet/headache sweet on me. And w/in an hour it turns into something totally different on me. From little girl to sexy yet clean ...but I am afraid its not right for everyday..at work for example.
YSL Paris: never bought it but it seems to smell good. I worry about the sweetness.
Euphoria for Men: I really liked the way it smelled in the store..but not the women's version. This happens a lot for me. The mens frag seems to smell better to me than the womans, unless it turns into a sickeningly sweet tone at the end.
Eternity: wow this smells good on me. I feel once again like it is immediately identifiable and dates me though!!!
Insolence by Guerlain: smelled good the one time at the store I smelled it but once again I am concerned about the sweetness.
Aromatics Elixir/Clinique: OMG it smelled like chemicals on me. Horrible. Smells perfect on my good friend. sooo strange.
OH I used to buy a lot of bath and body works stuff. Gardenia is really great...I like that one. I recently tried Midnight Pomegranate body lotion and it turns into major old lady dusty powder after an hour or two. The Japanese cherry blossom ...I don't know what to think. I can't love it and I can't hate it. But it annoys me because its a big seller. Must be psychological on my part.
Pure Grace (I think its called) by philosophy: smells really good like clean laundry. But who wants to smell like nothing more than clean laundry? I need something a little MORE complex.
Poison: smelled it once. Way too sickeningly sweet to me. I was afraid to put it on.
Okay I can't think of any other perfumes. But some smells I love are: the ocean, the forest, the smell right before the rain, and a perfect fall day. Also clean laundry.

Oh yeah I forgot to say that I really like Gucci Envy! Afraid the smell won't last on me very long.

Oh yeah I just remembered I have a full bottle of Amour de Cocoa by Compt du Sud (sp?) that I am sending off to my mom because it is the most discusting thing I have ever smelled. I had thought that since I loved Pink Sugar I might like this one. But absolutely not. It smells like a can of sweetened condensed milk that has gone sour on me. Ughgh if only I could find "THE ONE" fragrance...

). Perhaps you might like Guerlain's Terracotta Voile d'Ete which has earthy hints, and is not overly sweet.
